Three innovative millennials won AED 60,000 to change the game for their careers in technology today at GITEX. The GITEX Student Lab is an opportunity for students to develop never-before-seen solutions using engineering, technology, science and computing. Submissions to the competition came from all over the globe, from language learning to connected wearables, and featured software, gaming, applications, programs, hardware and more.

The winner was Shamsa Al Mazrouei from United Arab Emirates University, who developed a series of fully-immersive virtual reality games to help students learn Arabic. “We are so excited to have won the competition. It was just wonderful to even participate. We feel so good to have had the support from everyone. Our winnings will go back to our project and improve our technology,” said Shamsa Al Mazrouei.

Second place was The Giving Hand, a mobile app by Heriot-Watt University Dubai students Muhmammad Azeem, Balraj Singh Bains, and Morvarid Jalali that allows airline passengers to donate their unused baggage allowance to a charity, and carry donations for people in need. Third place was Navyo – The Smart Glove, a Bluetooth-connected glove and mobile app that guide people with visual disabilities in correct directions, developed by Delhi Technological University India students Madhav Aggarwal, Bhavesh Pachnanda, and Mohd Suhail.

The annual competition was sponsored by Accenture, the Ministry of Finance’s e-dirham, and Ministry of Presidential Affairs. Judges narrowed down 20 student projects to an elite top three. The winner won AED 30,000 as well as an internship with Accenture, the runner-up took AED 20,000, and third place received AED 10,000.

“As the Digital Economy accelerates, organisations should embrace disruption by empowering their people to continuously learn new skills and do more with technology, which can help improve how people work and create bigger and better outcomes for individuals, organisations and society at large,” said Omar Boulos, regional managing director for Accenture in the Middle East and North Africa.

“Accenture congratulates the winners and will award them an internship at the company, demonstrating our support for the digital leaders of tomorrow by enabling them to cultivate valuable careers while contributing to their countries’ growth and innovation agendas,” he added.

“GITEX is proud to support the work of these young students. Youth focused programmes such as the Student Lab allow students to hone their skills and make connections that will build their careers for the future. The success of these students today will benefit not only the winners themselves, but businesses looking for next generation apps and ideas, the technology industry looking for the next game-changing innovation, and the wider community that will rely on the ideas and creativity of this young generation of bright minds,” said Trixie LohMirmand, Senior Vice President, Event Management, Dubai World Trade Centre.

A silent fanless design means that even in a dusty environment, the LIVA Z3 series is more reliable and requires less maintenance compared to other designs.  It provides a cost-effective and low-maintenance solution with easy deployment for digital signage in markets such as smart vending machines, digital displays, digital menus, kiosks, information display systems, and more.

A small design, efficient operation, and powerful capabilities from AMD Ryzen 3/5/7 and Athlon processors with Radeon RX graphics allows the LIVA One A300 to be an extremely flexible device. Users can outfit the LIVA One A300 with anything from ultra-efficient dual-core Athlon-class APUs to powerful 8-core APUs with advanced Radeon RX graphics that offer great performance for work or play. For business applications, its small size, excellent power efficiency, and class-leading built-in graphics processing benefit smart signage or other visual- and display-centric applications, in addition to edge compute, retail, healthcare, terminals, and gateways.

ECS E24-M AiO

Published

on

Trackimo will launch a unique “Evil Eye” amulet with embedded GPS tracking technology during GITEX 2021. The traditional belief of several cultures around the world for centuries states that a person in possession of evil eye amulets and pendants is protected. Trackimo has taken this thought forward by infusing technology into the amulet and transform it into a seamless tracking device to protect the owner of the product. This smart device uses four types of tracking technology to ensure independent and precise real-time global location – cellular, GPS, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi.

“We believe in bringing creative and innovative tracking devices and products to the Middle East and Africa region. The Evil Eye GPS is a small and lightweight personal tracker that can be attached to almost anything using its keyring attachment – whether it be a loved one or precious valuables. With a meaningful design that represents exactly what it does, the Evil Eye GPS serves as an amulet that brings over 3000 years of tradition into the 21st century with the power of IoT. This is one way to keep a watchful eye to protect your loved ones and most precious valuables discreetly,” stated Shai Bar-Lavi, CEO of Trackimo.

With the company’s unique embedded tracking technology, the location can be updated as frequently as needed or tracked in real-time using Trackimo’s dedicated app or web platform. Further features include customizable safe-zones that send out alerts when breached, 5-year location history, speed monitoring, and alerts, in addition to a dedicated SOS button that sends out the location signal when prompted, and more.

“The Evil-Eye GPS revolutionizes the way we look at personal trackers. Its discreet design blends in like a charm and provides the peace of mind knowing your loved ones are always safe,” added Shai. Trackimo says that it develops the world’s most compact and cost-effective tracking devices. The company provides customizable and affordable consumer IoT services as well as enterprise IoT solutions, designed to be tailored to every business’ unique requirement.

“Trackimo develops leading end-to-end ‘IoT as a Service’ (IoTaaS) solutions that allow people and businesses to stay connected to each other and to their belongings. The company’s advanced proprietary technology is backed by its range of tracking devices that are equipped with a unique chipset supporting an all-in-one 2G/3G/4G/Cat-M1 (fallback) as well as Wi-Fi and BLE connection that can carry any SIM card,” stated Amit Shaked, Chief Operating Officer, Trackimo.

The company’s technology enables tracking people, pets, luggage, shipments, drones, motorcycles, boats, cars, or remote-controlled objects possible on a real-time basis. Trackimo’s technology is trusted by the world’s leading organizations and has brought forward collaborations including the Vodafone Curve, a personal tracker that was launched in 2020. This product recently won the Glomo Award for Best Connected Consumer Device at MWC Barcelona; as well as the Vodafone Business Tag and Track mobile asset tracking service.

Hosted between October 17th and 21st of October at the Dubai World Trade Centre, GITEX Technology Week brings together buyers from the world’s largest tech buyers in the Middle East, North Africa, and Asia to test and collaborate with game-changing innovations from niche startups and global tech giants. “Further notable launches among other unique products at GITEX 2021 includes our recently announced NickWatch with media giant ViacomCBS – the first connected smartwatch for children featuring content from Nickelodeon’s favourite characters scheduled to be available in early 2022,” concluded Amit.
