Published

on

Emirates NBD has today announced the launch of SkyShopper, an exclusive online marketplace for its customers. The e-commerce platform, a first of its kind offering from a bank in the region, will enable Emirates NBD credit and debit card customers to shop and pay for purchases ranging from flights, hotels, electronics and fashion items to entertainment, groceries as well as international shopping, all from the same portal and using one consolidated check-out.

Emirates NBD has partnered with prominent retailers and e-tailers to offer its customers a wide variety of products and services along with a seamless and safe shopping experience. SkyShopper’s current partners include the popular travel booking sites Cleartrip and Musafir,   leading fashion and lifestyle portal Namshi and electronics stores such as Axiom, Jumbo and Sharaf DG. Customers will also be able to book tickets to their favorite shows on Platinumlist while also ordering their daily groceries through Trolley.ae, all at one go without having to visit separate sites and making multiple payment transactions.

In addition, customers will also be able to shop at international online stores with delivery to the UAE consolidated and routed through a US shipping address (MyUS.com) and at My Smart Price (MSP) India with delivery anywhere in India. New partnerships in the pipeline include Booking.com, The Luxury Closet, 6thSTREET.COM and Headout.

“The launch of SkyShopper is to enrich the shopping experience and provide added value to Emirates NBD customers who are increasingly making online purchases” said Suvo Sarkar, Senior Executive Vice President & Group Head – Retail Banking and Wealth Management, Emirates NBD. “Despite its rapid growth, the UAE’s e-commerce sector continues to be based largely on cash on delivery. SkyShopper is uniquely positioned to change that by providing customers the security and convenience of purchasing everything from airline tickets to mobile phones and luxury items to groceries via Emirates NBD’s trusted payment platform, in addition to exclusive deals and promotions,” he added.

Customers will be able to browse and select their products of choice by visiting www.skyshopper.com. On completing their selection across different partner stores, customers will be able to consolidate all items under one shopping cart before proceeding to pay using their Emirates NBD credit or debit card. Service queries can be carried out by calling the respective seller’s call centre directly or via Emirates NBD.

SkyShopper taps into the UAE’s booming e-commerce market valued at over AED 20 billion annually and forecast to double by 2020. By virtue of being one of the largest cards issuers in the market, Emirates NBD will leverage unique customer insights in conjunction with partners to provide superior value and an exceptional user experience for customers. The new initiative follows the bank’s announcement on a planned AED 500 million investment towards digital innovation and transformation over a three-year period.

Google’s Latest AI Model Enables Watermark Removal from Images

Published

on

A potentially controversial application of Google’s new Gemini 2.0 Flash AI model has emerged: users are leveraging it to remove watermarks from images, including those from stock photo sites such as Getty Images.

The recently expanded image generation feature of Gemini 2.0 Flash allows for native image generation and editing, a powerful tool that seemingly lacks robust usage restrictions. Social media users have highlighted how the AI can not only remove watermarks but also intelligently fill in the resulting gaps, often with impressive accuracy, and it’s currently free within Google’s AI Studio developer tools.

While labeled “experimental” and “not for production use,” Gemini 2.0 Flash’s ability to bypass watermarks stands in contrast to models like Anthropic’s Claude 3.7 Sonnet and OpenAI’s GPT-4o, which explicitly prohibit such actions, citing ethical and legal concerns.

It’s important to note that Gemini 2.0 Flash isn’t foolproof; it can struggle with semi-transparent or heavily overlaid watermarks. Nevertheless, the ease with which it can remove watermarks raises potential copyright issues, as removing a watermark without the copyright holder’s permission is generally illegal in many countries. This situation underscores the ongoing challenges of balancing powerful AI capabilities with copyright protection.
