NEC Display Solutions Europe will debut its latest range of 4K/UHD displays at ISE 2018 in Amsterdam this February. The new MultiSync P and V Series large format displays are available in four sizes from 65” to 98” and feature High Dynamic Range (HDR) capabilities for a rich and lifelike viewing experience under any light condition.
HDR expands both contrast and colour accuracy significantly. Bright parts of the image can get much brighter, giving any image depth, while colours appear even more intense. Both series are perfect for a range of industries and environments, from retail and Digital out of Home (DooH), to finance, manufacturing, education, healthcare and transportation, where UHD displays are increasingly used in a range of applications.
Due to its high image homogeneity and stable uniformity, the P Series is particularly well-suited for mission-critical control room environments. The two series have been designed for compelling image performance. The P Series features a brightness output of 700 cd/m2 for complete clarity even under bright ambient light, while the V Series, at 500 cd/m2, is perfect for common light conditions.
Viewing quality has been significantly enhanced with the latest anti-reflective surface coatings delivering clearly visible messages even under varying and demanding ambient conditions. The elegant, slimline design ensures uncomplicated integration into any application where the simplicity of its shape supports an unhindered viewing experience. The reduced depth allows unobstrusive integration within any interior design or architectural environment.
The application flexibility is further extended by its ability to install the displays in portrait, landscape or even table mode. The P and V Series displays are future-ready with Open Modular intelligence (OMi) expansion, enabling owners to upgrade the power of their display at any time by seamlessly integrating one of NEC’s options for Open Pluggable Specification (OPS) Slot-in PCs, Raspberry Pi Compute Modules, or signal interfaces for content feed and computing.
“In 2018 we will see most screens from 65” and above support UHD as end-users seek the best possible picture quality for their applications,” said Erik Elbert, Product Manager Large Format Displays at NEC Display Solutions Europe. “Our new P and V Series are designed to suit every potential need, from conferencing, control rooms and colour critical workflows to advertisement and information signage. “Visual quality and ergonomics are becoming an ever-more important consideration in digital signage, which is why we have designed the P and V Series with advanced functionality that allow full control of all visual parameters via the SpectraView Engine, bringing the most precise and natural images in the industry. The new displays and sizes deliver on our promise to create endless impressions that connect, engage, and impress.”
Both the MultiSync P and V Series large format displays will be available across the EMEA region between May and August 2018, but visitors to ISE 2018 will be able to get a unique opportunity to see the displays in action.

The Ultimate Buying Guide for Creator Displays
For content creators, a high-quality display is indispensable. However, the challenge arises when it’s time to select one. To simplify this process, we’ve compiled a comprehensive guide to buying displays, which should assist you in making an informed decision.
As you sift through the myriad of display models on the market, you’ll undoubtedly come across a variety of specifications. Some of these are self-explanatory, while others necessitate a grasp of certain concepts. Let’s deep dive into the key features of a display.
Monitor size plays a significant role, with a broad range to choose from. Typically, a monitor for video editing should measure between 24 and 32 inches, with the sweet spot around 27 inches. This size allows for split-screen editing while maintaining overall screen focus.
Monitors smaller than 24 inches are generally designed for laptops, while those larger than 32 inches are primarily suitable for movie viewing or playback. However, as the display size increases, so does the need for higher resolution to maintain quality.
Monitor resolution is a frequently debated topic, and if you’re considering a career in photography, video editing, or content creation, a 4K monitor is a minimum requirement. Given that most contemporary cameras capture in 4K or higher, investing in a 4K monitor enhances your viewing experience. This also ensures that you’re prepared for the future, as camera technology continues to improve annually.
Typically, a monitor with a high refresh rate is likely to have a lower resolution. Monitors with high refresh rates are ideal for gamers who prioritize high frame rates over high resolution, a preference that doesn’t apply to video editing.
Such monitors can reach up to 144Hz, which is somewhat excessive for video editing. In this context, 60Hz is perfectly adequate and even favoured by some gamers. This is particularly relevant considering that most projects are edited in the 24-30fps range, which corresponds to approximately 24-30Hz.
For those involved in creative work, having a monitor that can display a wide range of colours is crucial, and this is where 10-bit technology comes into play. Although 8-bit monitors may be adequate, they fall short when it comes to colour grading.
This is because an 8-bit monitor can display 16.7 million colours, while a 10-bit monitor can display a staggering 1.07 billion colours. Moreover, most professional cameras used by videographers and photographers nowadays shoot in at least 10-bit. Therefore, to fully utilise your camera’s capabilities, ensure that your monitor isn’t limiting you to viewing only a small portion of what your camera can produce.
The contrast ratio is a specification that is frequently disregarded, yet it’s crucial to examine. A standard contrast ratio of 1000:1 on a monitor implies that a pixel can be 1000 times brighter than its darkest state. It represents the luminance difference between the deepest black and the brightest white. As a rule of thumb, aim for monitors with a contrast ratio ranging from 1000:1 to 3000:1 to avoid being misled by marketing tactics. Generally, a higher contrast ratio equates to superior image quality.
This guide to buying monitors provides all the necessary information for making an informed choice. It’s essential to consider your specific needs and select a monitor that will contribute positively to your work. Here then are some of the best displays in the market for content creators.

The Odyssey OLED G9 boasts a 49″ curved ultra-wide display with DQHD (5,120×1,440) resolution, a 32:9 aspect ratio, and various enhanced features. Meanwhile, the Odyssey OLED G8 stands out as Samsung’s inaugural flat 32-inch OLED gaming monitor, offering 4K UHD (3,840×2,160) resolution and a 16:9 aspect ratio. Both monitors share a 240Hz refresh rate and an impressive 0.03ms GTG response time.
The Odyssey OLED G6, a 27″ QHD (2,560×1,440) monitor, supports a 16:9 aspect ratio, featuring a remarkable 360Hz refresh rate and the same 0.03ms GTG response time. These monitors collectively represent Samsung’s commitment to delivering cutting-edge technology to meet the high standards of the gaming community.
“Along with game genres, gaming platforms are getting more diverse,” said Hoon Chung, Executive Vice President of the Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “Samsung’s new OLED Odyssey gaming monitors will empower gamers with more immersive game environments and innovative technology that personalizes their gaming experiences — meeting and exceeding their evolving needs.”
All three latest models incorporate OLED Glare-Free technology, reducing light reflections to enhance the viewing experience without the need for additional equipment. This ensures users can play games with consistent brightness and colour in various lighting conditions. The monitors, equipped with VESA DisplayHDR True Black 400, deliver exceptional details and vivid colours irrespective of the displayed game or content. They also support AMD FreeSync Premium Pro, ensuring ultra-smooth, low-latency HDR gaming.
