Shooting Reported at YouTube HQ, One Dead
A woman opened fire at YouTube headquarters in San Bruno, Califorinia, US. Four people were injured in the incident, before the shooter took her own life using a handgun, causing widespread panic in the technology hub south of San Francisco.
Investigators initially believed the shooting was a domestic incident, with the shooter targeting someone who worked on the YouTube campus. However, it seems like the woman suspected of opening fire at YouTube’s headquarters was a disgruntled video-maker. The alleged shooter has been identified as Nasim Aghdam.
On the website consisting of a collage of photos and video posts, Aghdam ralies against YouTube for taking down some of her videos and for skimping on revenue driven by the traffic to her YouTube page. “There is no equal growth opportunity on YOUTUBE or any other video sharing site, your channel will grow if they want to!!!!!” Aghdam wrote. “Youtube filtered my channels to keep them from getting views!”
“Youtube filtered my channels to keep them from getting views!” reads the site, which along with complaints about the streaming video service includes videos promoting veganism and photos of a woman in an array of outfits, including long dresses and a camouflage unitard. There is no equal growth opportunity on YOUTUBE or any other video sharing site, your channel will grow if they want to!!!!!”
Social media accounts linked from the page have been deactivated. A YouTube account linked from the page was “terminated due to multiple or severe violations of YouTube’s policy against spam, deceptive practices, and misleading content or other Terms of Service violations,” according to the streaming video site.
The shooting occurred in an outdoor area that’s easier to access than other parts of the campus, the sources said. San Bruno Police said that one person, believed to be the shooter, was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Four people were taken to area hospitals for medical treatment, three with gunshot wounds.
Most tech companies, including YouTube, require visitors to check in with security before entering their facilities. “We’re doing everything we can to support them and their families at this time,” Google CEO Sundar Pichai said in a letter to employees.
Pichai said the shooting came as employees were having lunch and police, along with the company’s security team, worked to evacuate the buildings. “The best information we have is that the situation is contained,” he said. “I know a lot of you are in shock right now. Over the coming days, we will continue to provide support to help everyone in our Google family heal from this unimaginable tragedy.”
In a tweet, U.S. President Trump offered his “thoughts and prayers” to everyone involved in the incident Tuesday afternoon.

Google Photos Upgrades with AI Video Editing
Google Photos, the popular photo and video management service, has announced a significant update to its mobile video editor. The redesigned editor aims to simplify the video editing process and make it more accessible to users of all skill levels.
The new video editor interface places key editing tools front and centre, making it easier for users to access and utilize features like muting, enhancing, adjusting speed, stabilizing, and exporting frames. Additionally, the trim tool has been improved with more precise controls, allowing users to cut footage with greater accuracy.
One of the most notable additions to the video editor is the introduction of AI-powered video presets. These presets offer a variety of editing options, including basic cuts, slow-motion effects, zooming, and dynamic motion tracking. By applying these presets, users can quickly and easily create professional-looking videos without extensive editing knowledge.
Google has begun rolling out these improvements to Google Photos, but a specific timeline for the update has not been provided. You are encouraged to check your app regularly for new features to become available.
