Road Test: Opel Mokka X

Published

on

The Opel Mokka X was globally announced in 2013. Since then, it has undergone a lot of changes, right from the looks, the interiors, to the technical features it offers. The Mokka X offers chunky looks.

It goes head to head with other compact SUVs on the market such as the Renault Captur, Ford EcoSport, and the Nissan Kicks. The Opel Mokka X is targeted at family buyers looking for a dependable SUV. It offers a commanding driving position and semi-rugged looks.

The new Mokka X sports a facelift with sleeker headlights, restyled bumpers, new LED tail lights, as well as a revised interior with the all-new dash, instrument cluster, and center stack. The Mokka X incorporates new LED-highlighted head- and fog lamp clusters.

Its interior packaging has been inspired by Astra’s fascia. The Mokka X model we tested is called Enjoy and it comes with a 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine. The Mokka X Enjoy also comes with a six-speed automatic transmission, offering 140bhp and 200Nm of torque.

The Mokka X Enjoy gets you cruise control, parking sensors, electric windows, power-folding mirrors, high beam assist, 17-inch wheels and a touchscreen infotainment system in the cabin. It is also one of the best-connected SUVs out there on the market.

The Mokka X Enjoy comes with IntelliLink. It offers Bluetooth connectivity for your hands-free calling and audio streaming requirements. It also comes with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Connecting to these features is a walk in the park.

It also comes with hill start assist, LED daytime running lights, automatic lighting control, remote central locking, and electronic and heated mirrors. Other features include emergency brake assist, adaptive brake lights and more.

The reverse camera with the parking sensors makes parking into tight spots, a piece of cake. The power steering felt quite smooth and light to operate. The luggage bay in the Mokka X offers a good amount of packing space.

The Mokka X Enjoy also offers plenty of head and legroom in the front and rear. With the rear seats up, the boot offers 356-liters of storage space. The rear seats also feature a 60:40 split. Thus, when they are folded flat,  you get a total of 371-liters of storage space in the boot.

The Mokka X offers very slick and fuss-free shifts. The engine is very punchy and sounds very comfortable in any driving conditions. During our road test, we found the  Mokka X to be perfectly fine when cruising the town around.

It offers a comfortable ride, strong economy and quiet new engine. The handling also felt very smooth and the performance was consistent throughout our driving experience. The Opel Mokka X should definitely be on your shortlist if you are shopping around for a compact SUV for you and your family.
