Synology Releases DiskStation Manager 6.2

Published

on

Synology has announced the official release of DiskStation Manager (DSM) 6.2, delivering a more reliable, efficient and secure NAS experience. The new Advanced LUN, iSCSI Manager, and Storage Manager provide professional users with a stable and powerful data protection solution. Take management efficiency and stability to an unprecedented level.

“Eight months ago we released our DSM 6.2 beta program, with over 71,000 downloads, and received valuable feedback from users. In DSM 6.2, we focus on the stability and performance of new features,” said Derren Lu, the CEO of Synology Inc. “In the meantime, we took tens of thousands of hours testing on hundreds of machines to make DSM more stable and provide better IT management flexibility in every respect. Synology NAS does not just serve as network storage devices, but they provide a powerful and wide range of application services for business.”

Key new features in DSM 6.2 include:

Exciting storage technologies for efficiency enhancement

  • Storage Manager: A new storage component, Storage Pool, is introduced to provide a highly consistent and smooth storage management experience. A new dashboard-like overview comes with rich and useful information. With Smart Data Scrubbing, you are given an easier way to prevent bit rot without breaking a sweat.

  • iSCSI Manager: A revamped, dedicated management tool for iSCSI service that provides a new LUN type with refined snapshot technology. Based on the Btrfs file system, type enables snapshots to be taken within seconds, regardless of LUN size.

Maximize service uptime with reliable failover plans

  • Synology High Availability 2.0: A complete application revamp provides a robust system and easy-to-follow troubleshooting process. In addition, all designs have been refined to bring optimized system updates, more intuitive operations, a faster initial setup, and a brand new monitoring interface.

Comprehensive security protection for login and connection

  • Security Advisor: Security Advisor uses intelligent techniques to extract an abnormal login and analyze the attacker’s location. DSM will send notifications upon detecting any unusual login activities. With one click, IT admins can review a daily or monthly report on the DSM system security scan.

  • TLS/SSL Profile Level: Specifying a TLS/SSL Profile Level provides each network service with its own TLS/SSL connection profile. It gives users a more flexible way to configure network security.

A whole new Package Center for search improvement

  • Package Center: The completely redesigned Package Center allows users to quickly find everything they need with a rotating banner, clearer categorization, and enhanced search capability.

The Synology DSM 6.2 is now available for download to users with a DiskStation, RackStation, or FlashStation. For more information on compatibility and installation, please visit https://www.synology.com/dsm/6.2.

Synology Simplifies Business Backup with ActiveProtect

Published

on

Reporting from Taipei, Taiwan: Synology has announced new ActiveProtect appliances, a purpose-built data protection lineup that combines centralized management with a highly scalable architecture for best-in-class ease of use. “The launch of ActiveProtect reflects Synology’s unceasing commitment to empowering our users with the tools to manage their most valuable asset—data,” said Philip Wong, Chairman and CEO of Synology. “In today’s rapidly evolving digital landscape, businesses face unprecedented challenges in safeguarding their data. With the new ActiveProtect offering, we aim to empower organizations of all sizes to address cybersecurity challenges head-on.”

ActiveProtect centralises organization-wide data protection policies, tasks, and appliances to offer a unified management and control plane. Comprehensive coverage for endpoints, servers, hypervisors, storage systems, databases, Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace services dramatically reduces IT blind spots and the necessity of operating multiple data protection solutions.

“Organizations are tasked with maintaining overly complex and costly data protection strategies, and we aim to solve all the challenges at once with ActiveProtect,” stated Jia-Yu Liu, Executive Vice President at Synology. “ActiveProtect is the culmination of extensive research, development, and experience working with our customers. We are confident in delivering a solution that will exceed modern businesses’ expectations.”

IT teams can quickly deploy ActiveProtect appliances in minutes and create comprehensive data protection plans via global policies using a centralized console. From implementing immutability and air gapping policies to performing recovery procedures, ActiveProtect is designed to be intuitive, significantly reducing operational overhead.

Each ActiveProtect appliance can operate in standalone or cluster-managed modes. Storage capacity can be tiered with Synology NAS/SAN storage solutions, C2 Object Storage, and other ActiveProtect appliances in the cluster. Additionally, existing Synology Active Backup for Business deployments are manageable from the unified interface, providing high deployment flexibility.

Purpose-built ActiveProtect appliances leverage incremental backups with source-side, global, and cross-site deduplication to ensure fast backups and replication with minimal bandwidth usage. ActiveProtect is up to 7 times faster at backing up with a typical deduplication ratio of over 2:1, significantly reducing operating costs. ActiveProtect will be available through Synology distributors and partners later in 2024.

Synology Launches DS723+ at CES 2023

Published

on

Synology has launched DS723+, the latest entry in Synology’s line of DiskStation Network Attached Storage (NAS) units. Powered by the Synology DiskStation Manager (DSM) operating system, it delivers comprehensive solutions to protect and manage data, easily collaborate on documents, access files remotely, and monitor physical assets, all within a compact desktop format.

DS723+
The DS723+ is the latest entry into the “+” series of Synology’s desktop NAS units, and the first 2-bay Synology NAS to be upgradeable with 10GbE networking. The DS723+ can also be easily scaled using a DX517 expansion unit, increasing the total capacity to ten storage drives. Upgraded networking and added NVMe drives allow the user to achieve up to 10GbE, and up to 465/228 MB/s read/write speeds. Additionally, Synology’s streamlined backup and encryption software tools are included with the hardware.

Powerful protection that goes beyond data:

  • Data and Photo Back Up – The DS723+ provides a compact, subscription-free way to back up crucial data. Whether it is video files, irreplaceable family photos, or tax records, the DS723+ has a host of license and subscription-free backup applications that will allow users to make sure vital data stays protected.
  • Local storage with the benefits of the cloud – The DS723+ allows users to make use of high-performance local storage while simultaneously reducing their local storage footprint using hybrid cloud technology. Synology Hybrid Share efficiently stores cold data in the cloud while keeping frequently accessed files cached on the device and accessible at LAN speeds up to 10 gigabits per second.
  • Surveillance Station – The DS723+ can be used as a full-fledged video management system with full local data ownership. Synology’s home security solution allows users to set up a safe, secure, and subscription-free home security network. Instead of trusting cloud-based systems to securely transfer footage out of your home, Surveillance Station stores the footage on a local device.
  • Safe and Secure Sharing – By storing important data and photos locally users have direct control over who accesses it. Large cloud storage platforms are a prime target for bad actors trying to get into sensitive documents. With a Synology NAS, users can add tangible layers of security to keep important data safe and share documents securely with the click of a button.
