Golden Scent e-Commerce Platform Crosses 1M App Downloads

Golden Scent, the leading international premium perfume and cosmetics e-commerce platform is moving to new milestones as it sets up for a triple-digit growth in 2018 over the year before in customer base. The brand has expanded to the UAE and Kuwait market, crossing 1 million app downloads with an increase of product portfolio by 250%.

Golden Scent app has crossed 1 million downloads in a few months as clients use it to shop on the move with their smartphones. “The online shopping behaviour of Saudi consumers has seen a major shift from web to app usage in e-commerce over the past years. Therefore, we gave the customers exactly what they are looking for and made their shopping experience more convenient with our new app. On the other hand, our app offers tremendous advantages to featured brands – such as higher conversion rates and a boost to customer loyalty and retention. Therefore, we are excited to create many more new features for our Golden Scent app, stay tuned,” said Malik Shehab, CEO, Golden Scent.

Onboarding new brands and beauty categories for makeup, skincare, and haircare has been the main focus for Golden Scent in 2018. The e-commerce platform carries well-known global beauty brands, but is also making room for local brands. The diversified product range means perfume and beauty lovers can find whatever they need on the same platform and make Golden Scent their only destination for everything related to beauty, which replicates the premium luxury experience of offline stores.

Golden Scent’s product offerings in the makeup and skincare category grew 40%, while new categories such as beauty tools and hair care were introduced. Golden Scent has also signed exclusive contracts with brands that are only available through the platform.

“Our first step was to streamline the purchase experience. We’re now investing in scaling up both our presence and our product lines so consumers have incredible choice mated to convenience. We’re not just giving our clients access to the widest possible range of beauty products but are also going the extra mile to tie up with trending brands that are available exclusively through us,” added Shehab.

Today, Golden Scent offers thousands of cosmetic and perfume products through its platform. Last year, the startup’s Series A funding saw it backed by top-tier investment vehicles including as Saudi Aramco Entrepreneurship Venture, Equitrust the venture arm of the Choueiri Group, Wamda Capital and Raed Ventures.

A potentially controversial application of Google’s new Gemini 2.0 Flash AI model has emerged: users are leveraging it to remove watermarks from images, including those from stock photo sites such as Getty Images.

The recently expanded image generation feature of Gemini 2.0 Flash allows for native image generation and editing, a powerful tool that seemingly lacks robust usage restrictions. Social media users have highlighted how the AI can not only remove watermarks but also intelligently fill in the resulting gaps, often with impressive accuracy, and it’s currently free within Google’s AI Studio developer tools.

While labeled “experimental” and “not for production use,” Gemini 2.0 Flash’s ability to bypass watermarks stands in contrast to models like Anthropic’s Claude 3.7 Sonnet and OpenAI’s GPT-4o, which explicitly prohibit such actions, citing ethical and legal concerns.

It’s important to note that Gemini 2.0 Flash isn’t foolproof; it can struggle with semi-transparent or heavily overlaid watermarks. Nevertheless, the ease with which it can remove watermarks raises potential copyright issues, as removing a watermark without the copyright holder’s permission is generally illegal in many countries.
