Hisense Buys Gorenje
Hisense has acquired the Slovenian home appliances producer Gorenje for $339 million, which is viewed as one of the largest acquisitions in the Slovenian history. The acquisition procedure was completed in August 2018. Both companies will work together to enhance product ranges efficiencies thereby bringing to market products that enhance people’s convenience & lifestyle at home.
With this acquisition, Gorenje Gulf FZE, a fully owned subsidiary of Gorenje is now officially merged with Hisense Middle East, a set-up in late 2012 by the Chinese electronics giant in the UAE. Both teams operate and manage from the Hisense Middle East office. Earlier, The European Commission approved the acquisition of the household manufacturer Gorenje by Hisense Group. The transaction has no competition concerns given the companies’ limited combined market positions.
“From a category perspective, Gorenje’s strengths in large cooking appliances and dishwashers will complement Hisense’s strengths in refrigeration, laundry and air conditioners. Gorenje’s premium Swedish brand ASKO will also be a key asset, supporting Hisense’s corporate branding premiumisation plan,” added Jason, Managing Director, Hisense Middle East.
“While Hisense has a strong presence in western Europe, Gorenje is strong in Germany, Scandinavia and central and eastern Europe. By combining its production facilities and orders with Hisense’s, Gorenje could produce not only its own brand name products but also kitchen appliances, refrigerators, washing machines, televisions and air conditioners of Hisense’s brands for the European market,”Jason added.
For seven decades, Gorenje has been manufacturing home appliances. It started as the biggest producer in the former Yugoslavia. Gorenje has a strong global workforce of 11,000 people, has three state of the art factories in Slovenia, Serbia, the Czech Republic. Hisense is one of the world’s biggest makers of TV and household appliances with production facilities around the world, including in Europe.

LG to Announce New Washer Lineup at IFA 2024
LG Electronics is set to unveil its latest washer at IFA 2024. The new model boasts the company’s Artificial Intelligence Direct Drive (AI DD) 2.0 technology and Pet Care cycle features, delivering an effective washing performance with a larger and more efficient capacity. Leveraging the company’s advanced low-vibration technology, LG will present its first washer in the 25-inch category, offering the convenience of larger washing loads with an increased drum capacity of up to 16 kilograms.1 In addition to the increased capacity, the new washer integrates cutting-edge AI technology that enhances the washer’s performance.
At the core of the new washer’s performance is the AI DD 2.0, which utilizes deep learning technology to automatically detect the load weight, fabric softness and soil level of the garments. The washer then uses 6Motion technology to select the optimal washing pattern, reducing fabric damage by 10 per cent to help clothing last longer. What’s more, pet owners can take advantage of the Pet Care cycle feature, which offers high-temperature washing up to 60 degrees Celsius and four warm water rinse cycles, effectively removing 99 per cent of pet odours.
Furthermore, LG’s new washer streamlines the laundry experience with enhanced performance technology and convenience features. Thanks to TurboWash 360, washing cycles can be reduced to just 39 minutes, while ezDispense technology simplifies the process by determining the necessary amount of detergent for a load. The washer offers a total of up to 39 washing cycles 4 and automatically remembers the most frequently used cycles and features to minimise the time spent on setting selection. Users can also access the Cycle List Edit option to customize their preferences based on habits.
The washer employs LG’s renowned Inverter DirectDrive Motor, the company’s advanced core component technology, to deliver quiet performance and enhanced durability. “We are delighted to showcase our new washer and demonstrate how the company’s technologies simplify the washing process with expanded capacity and tailored features,” said Lyu Jae-cheol, president of LG Electronics Home Appliance & Air Solution Company. “We will continue to introduce advanced AI-based home appliance solutions that meet the needs of diverse spaces and lifestyles, providing enhanced benefits to make daily life more convenient for all.”

eufy Launches Omni S1 Pro Robot Vacuum and Mop
eufy, Anker Innovations’ brand for home appliances, recently launched the eufy Omni S1 Pro in the UAE. The eufy Omni S1 Pro’s standout feature is its mopping system. Unlike traditional robot mops, the eufy S1 Pro continuously washes its mop roller, ensuring only fresh water is used. This results in a spotlessly clean environment, even removing stubborn stains that other robots can’t handle which in turn addresses the specific needs of households within the UAE as they deal with sand, dust, and high standards of cleanliness.
The Omni S1 Pro boasts a TurboWash Roller Mop, featuring the longest roller mop in its class at 290mm, which rotates at a speed of 170 RPM and exerts a downward force of 10N. This design effectively mimics the action of human scrubbing, exerting the optimal amount of pressure to remove tough dirt and stains. Additionally, the Eco-Clean Ozone system uses tap water to produce ozone, sanitizing the floor and the vacuum’s components with a 99.99% sterilization rate, ensuring a safe environment for children and pets.
“We are thrilled to introduce the eufy Omni S1 Pro to the UAE market,” said Faisal Shah, General Manager of Anker Innovations, Middle East, Africa and South Asia. “Our insights show that consumers in the UAE have a deep appreciation for cutting-edge design, innovative technology, and smart home solutions. The eufy Omni S1 Pro perfectly aligns with these preferences, offering not just superior cleaning performance, but also seamless integration into an ever-evolving smart home ecosystem.”
In the UAE and across the region, where technological advancement and luxury living often go hand in hand, the eufy Omni S1 Pro represents the pinnacle of smart cleaning technology. Its advanced features include the 3D MatrixEye Depth Perception System, which uses the same obstacle avoidance AI algorithm found in self-driving cars, and allows it to intelligently recognize and react to obstacles. The TrueCourse™ Mapping system incorporates dToF Lidar for precise home mapping and agile manoeuvring around furniture.
“It’s not just about cleanliness but about embracing a lifestyle where technology enhances every aspect of home life,” continued Shah. “We want our innovative solutions available to a wide range of people and that is why we are planning to introduce the eufy Omni S1 towards the end of 2024 which will provide exceptional cleaning capabilities at a reduced price.”
With the Omni S1 Series, eufy is not just launching a range of robotic vacuum products; it’s contributing to the smart home revolution not just in the UAE but across the GCC. As the region invests heavily in internet infrastructure and promotes energy efficiency, the eufy Omni S1 Series fits perfectly into this landscape of technological advancement, aesthetic design and smart living.
