TRYP By Wyndham Kick Starts Environmentally-Friendly Initiatives

Published

on

TRYP by Wyndham Dubai is successfully leading by example as it positions itself at the forefront of industry-wide moves to reduce the impact hotels have on the environment as well as giving back to the community thanks to its LUVE by TRYP initiative. The 650-room hotel in Barsha Heights has established itself as a market leader in sustainability and one of the most green-focused properties in the UAE.

At the heart of the property’s sophisticated eco-focused initiatives, and one of the key reasons for its recent awards success, has been successful moves to eliminate the use of plastic bottles through an innovative in-house water filtration and glass bottle refilling system. A first for the region, the hotel uses a filtration system that removes chlorine and contaminants from mains water, eliminating the need to purchase water in plastic bottles.

The switch to glass bottles, which are cleaned and refilled in-house, means the hotel has reduced the amount of plastic waste that is sent to landfill by over 306,000 bottle per year. TRYP by Wyndham Dubai’s ‘Commitment to Sustainability’ extends to the use of recycled materials, which includes using paper toweling and tissue manufactured from 100% locally recycled cardboard, an initiative that was set up exclusively for the hotel by a local supplier and is another first for the region’s hotel industry.

Furthermore, the guest rooms ‘Do Not Disturb’ signs are made entirely from recycled plastic. Prior to this, these signs were made from paper with up to 60% being disposed of each month due to wear and tear. The move to recycled plastic has helped to further reduce the hotel’s paper waste. Currently, 1.5 years on and TRYP by Wyndham Dubai have yet to replace 1 DND sign due to damage.

Sustainability goals are also achieved by installing water-saving shower heads and taps in all bathrooms. These have reduced the amount of water consumed while not impacting the quality of the guest experience. As a result, water use has been cut from an average of 17 liters per minute to just 6.43 liters per minute. Many of the initiatives of Luve by Tryp focus on giving back to the community as well as the wider world and is the reason that the hotel was presented with the ‘CSR Initiative of the Year’ award recently.

A key CSR focused initiative that the hotel has implemented is the ‘Soap for Hope’ project. All used soap bars are collected and then sent to developing countries where they are reprocessed and compressed into new 500g bricks. This not only reduces unnecessary waste and prevents useable soap bars from being sent to landfill, but it also creates jobs in developing countries and contributes to improving the standard of living in communities.

An example of the hotel’s community-focused initiatives saw 12 members of staff cut their hair then donate it to the Little Princess Trust. The hair was then made into wigs for youngsters undergoing cancer treatment. The real hair wigs were distributed free of charge in October 2018 as part of Breast Cancer Awareness month. Total of 180 meters of hair donated in all different colors and styles.

Jo-Ella Moore, GM, TRYP by Wyndham Dubai said: “Our commitment to reducing our impact on the environment has seen the successful introduction of a wide-range of innovative green-focused projects throughout our hotel as well as numerous CSR initiatives that will make a positive difference both locally and internationally. These initiatives have established TRYP by Wyndham Dubai as an industry leader when it comes to rolling out programmes that help to protect the world around us.”

Indian Roadside Shack-Style Eatery Dhaba Lane Opens In Al Garhoud

Published

on

The Popular home grown Indian Restaurant in Karama, Dhaba Lane expands its operations in the UAE with the opening of its second outlet in Al Garhoud near Century Village. Offering a lively and chic dining atmosphere, the menu pays loving homage to the Indian Dhabas (Roadside shacks on Indian highways serving home-cooked traditional delicacies) that are an inseparable part of Indian food culture.

From Punjab to Delhi to Kolkata, the gastronomic journey available at Dhaba Lane takes its customers down the memory lane by offering guests the taste that they crave from distinct parts of India.

Some of the menu highlights include Galli Pani Puri Shots, Purani Dilli ki Papri Chaat, Dahi Ke Kebab, Murg Maska Marke, Taka Tak Paneer, Dal Makhan Marke, Zauk e Shahi, and Chenna Cheese Cake.

Dhaba Lane elevates the Indian classics with its quirky presentation inspired by the Dhaba culture in India blending the old into new in quite a pleasing manner. Dhaba Tandoori Murg is served on a Truck that says Humare Yahaan Khayeega toh dobara aayega (once you have eaten here, you would keep coming back), Dal Makhan Marke comes in red crimson brick themed well , Dahi Batata Puri – As it’s orgin, is served in a map of Punjab ( India), Pudina Seekh – Lamb Seekh Kabab is served in an Iron stand.

The food does not only promise to satiate your taste buds but also refreshes many fond memories. Spread across 1800 square feet with 70 seating capacity, the restaurant has a decorated interior that will exude the ‘Dhaba Vibes’. Brick meets wood panelling; pretty marble tiles meet a highway truck.

Eti Bhasin, a women entrepreneur and owner at Dhaba Lane Restaurants says, “After opening our first outlet in Karama in 2017, we realized that even after having the presence of many Indian restaurants around, customers love to visit Dhaba Lane to relish Dhaba style food in an upgraded urban set-up. This gave us the courage to expand and open our second outlet in Al Garhoud.

The reason behind choosing this location is primarily to cater to business travelers & residents alike in the Garhoud region that crave for a home away from home like experience offered by Dhaba Lane. Another advantage we got to see after opening in Garhoud is that a major proportion of local/ Arab residents are enjoying our signature recipes, which expands our Dhaba fan base to a newer set of audience.”
