Dyson Launches Lightcycle and Pure Cool Me



Dyson has launched new home technology in the United Arab Emirates that gives you control over many of the factors that impact your wellbeing, including the air you breathe and the light you’re exposed to.

The Dyson Pure Cool Me personal purifying fan is Dyson’s first personal air treatment machine. A recent Dyson survey revealed that less than 1 in 5 UAE residents are aware of the problems posed by indoor air pollution. In the bedroom, where we can spend up to one-third of our lives, we may find pollutants from personal care products like cosmetics, hair spray, perfume, or scented candles. In fact, according to Dyson, about 67% of UAE residents were unaware that hair spray can be a cause of indoor air pollution.

The Dyson Pure Cool Me personal purifying fan captures these pollutants and delivers cleaner air within your personal space. It does this by using Dyson’s new Core Flow technology which creates a steady stream of purified air and directs airflow precisely where needed. The unique HEPA also captures 99.95% of ultrafine particles such as pollen, mold spores and bacteria, and activated carbon absorbs and traps gases, odors, and household fumes.

The dome at the top of the machine also allows control over the precise angle of the airflow and features 70-degree oscillation for greater customization. It is also acoustically engineered to be as quiet as possible, following over 1000 tests by Dyson’s acoustic engineers. Last but not least, the Pure Cool Me personal purifying fan is equipped with an intelligent light sensing system to blend in with the surrounding environment. A sleep timer can be set so the machine will turn off after pre-set intervals ranging from 30 minutes to 8 hours.

Today, we spend up to 90% of our time indoors[i] and thanks to artificial light often prolong our activity after sunset, which makes the colour and intensity of artificial light extremely important to our wellbeing and comfort. The Dyson Lightcycle task light continually adjusts its colour temperature and brightness in relation to local daylight, providing the right light for the right time of day.

It uses a unique time, date, and location-driven algorithm to calculate the colour temperature and brightness of daylight, anywhere in the world. The product is the result of over 2 years of development, with more than 892 prototypes made and more than 90 engineers involved. Additionally, the Dyson Lightcycle task light is designed to improve visual acuity. Even if we don’t notice it directly, low light, flicker, and glare can cause eye strain and visual fatigue.

The Dyson Lightcycle task light provides a uniform pool of high-quality, powerful light with more than 1,000 Lux brightness, combined with glare protection and low optical flicker, surpassing recommended levels for studying. It is also engineered to maintain light quality for a whopping sixty years. While local daylight tracking offers several benefits, if a light loses its brightness or colour temperature over time, its ability to track daylight is diminished. Light bulbs, or light fixtures with a short lifespan, can also contribute to waste.

To prevent fading and discolouration, Dyson engineers used the same technology often used in satellites, allowing the Lightcycle to maintain its brightness and light quality for 60 years. More importantly, the Lightcycle is primed to deliver a customized and personalized environment for different tasks and moods.

The Dyson Link app continually communicates with the light to adjust the output for age, task, daily routine, and local daylight. It also has pre-set modes: Study, Relax, Precision, Boost, Wake-up, Sleep and Away to provide the right light for the right task. Additionally, it’s possible to pre-program and assign names for up to 20 different light settings to suit your task or mood.

Sony Launches FE 24-50mm F2.8 G, a Compact, Large Aperture F2.8 G Lens with High-Performance Optics



Sony Middle East and Africa has announced the release of its new compact 35mm full-frame compatible α (Alpha) E-mount lens, FE 24-50mm F2.8 G (product name SEL2450G) standard zoom with F2.8 maximum aperture over the entire zoom range. Despite its small and lightweight body, it achieves the high-resolution performance and beautiful bokeh that can be expected from a large aperture G Lens with F2.8. It covers a focal length of 24 mm to 50 mm, allowing you to capture everything from still images such as everyday snapshots, and portraits to video shooting, all in high quality but with a design that will easily fit in the smallest of kit bags.

With the latest optical and mechanical design, the dimensions have been kept compact with a filter diameter of φ67 mm, maximum diameter of 74.8 mm, length of 92.3 mm, and weight of approximately 440 g. Sharp and detailed images at all focal lengths are achieved thanks to the arrangement of four aspherical lenses and two pieces of ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass, so that aberrations such as chromatic aberration, are reduced, achieving high-resolution performance from the centre to the corner. FE 24-50mm F2.8 G uses an 11-blade circular aperture which together with the optimisation of spherical aberration provides the beautiful, soft and smooth bokeh that is characteristic of the G Lens series. It has a minimum shooting distance of 0.19 m (AF) at the wide end and a maximum magnification of 0.30 x (AF) offering high-quality close-up shooting.

The quality is evident through the AF (auto focus) whereby, equipped with two linear motors, it achieves high speed, high precision, high tracking, and quiet focusing. It also supports high-speed continuous shooting with AF/AE tracking of up to 120 frames per second for the full-frame mirrorless camera Alpha 9 III. For those wanting a solid video performance, AF tracking is available for high frame rate 4K 120p or FHD 240p movie recording where critical focus control is required, plus it supports in-body Active Mode image stabilisation for steady shooting while walking. It is also compatible with the focus breathing compensation on camera bodies, allowing for high-quality video expression.

Intuitive manual focus is achieved thanks to the adoption of linear response MF which allows smooth and superior image expression. FE 24-50mm F2.8 G is equipped with user-friendly functions such as a customisable focus hold button, aperture ring, aperture click ON/OFF switch, and focus mode switch, offering high operability and comprehensive control. Plus, for further ease of use, they are designed to be dust and moisture-proof with a fluorine coating which prevents dirt from sticking to the front surface of the lens.

 The new FE 24-50mm F2.8 G will be available in the region from Q2 2024.

HONOR Says its Eye-Tracking Features Can Move a Car



HONOR has introduced an AI-powered eye-tracking feature that can move a car without a driver inside. This experiment, demonstrated by an automotive engineer, uses the eye-tracking feature of the HONOR Magic6 Pro to control a car based on the user’s eye movement.

A video by Autocar, available on YouTube, showcases this innovative technology. The HONOR Magic6 Pro is equipped with four commands that can be activated by eye gaze, allowing the car to start the engine, turn it off, and move forward or backwards. After focusing on a specific button for 2-3 seconds, the corresponding command is activated, and the car responds accordingly.

HONOR says that this demonstration is a testament to the company’s belief that AI can transform the way humans interact with devices in the future.
