Review: Kingston High Endurance 128GB microSDXC Card

Published

on

Kingston is known for quality memory products and the latest to roll out of its facilities is a new lineup of microSD cards that are designed for read and write-intensive applications in harsh environments. Today we are reviewing the Kingston High Endurance 128GB microSDXC. This one belongs to the company’s Endurance family of microSD cards that promise extensive durability, an extended operating temperature range, and protection against rough conditions.

The demand for office and home surveillance solutions are picking up due to the increased uptake of IoT devices. The High Endurance 128GB microSDHC cards from Kingston target the IoT market and are aimed at devices such as home security and surveillance cameras, dash cams and body cams. The High Endurance microSDXC cards come in 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB capacities.

The 32GB and 64GB versions offer up to 95 MB/s sequential read speeds as well as 30 MB/s sequential write speeds. However, the 128GB model, which is reviewed here, features a sequential write speed up to 45 MB/s. The High Endurance microSDXC cards use a UHS-I interface, with the cards officially rated for UHS Speed Class 1. This means that they support a minimum write speed of 10 MB/s.

You will also notice that the card carries the A1 app class badge – this means you get excellent performance when running Android applications. The High Endurance microSDXC cards from Kingston note only fast, but are also tough. These cards are IEC/EN 60529 IPX7 certified for protection against water submersion up to 30 minutes and depth up to one meter.

And the cards can withstand temperatures ranging between -25°C and 85°C. In addition, the cards are protected against X-ray exposure according to ISO7816-1 guidelines. In order to test the real-world performance of the Kingston High Endurance 128GB microSDXC cards, we used Blackmagic Disk Speed Test on an Apple MacBook Pro. We were able to achieve read speeds and write speeds of 92 MB/s and 41 MB/s respectively.

We also used ATTO Disk Benchmark and ran the tests again using a sample data size of 5GB. This sample data package included a mix of images, videos, Word files, Excel sheets, text files, zipped files and so on. We were able to replicate similar read and write speeds similar to those seen on the Blackmagic Disk Speed Test.

While the microSDXC card can be used on laptops, smartphones and so on, the true performance potential can be had if you use it on read and write-intensive devices such as dash cams, security cameras and so on. You also get two-years worth of warranty for the card. The Kingston High Endurance microSDXC cards live up to their name by offering unwavering solid performance.
