Casio Opens Middle East’s Largest G-Shock Store in Dubai Mall

Renowned global watchmaker, Casio, has opened its new G-SHOCK retail store in The Dubai Mall Zabeel. To mark the special occasion, three G-SHOCK models were revealed and will be sold exclusively at the Dubai mall store. During a special and private viewing of the 2020 models, held at the new store, it was revealed that three new models will be sold exclusively at the new Dubai location.

MTG-B1000DCM-1A
A new camouflage model from the MTG-B1000 Series of shock-resistant metal and resin watches with Smartphone Link, radio-controlled timekeeping, and solar-powered operation. The metal of this watch is laser engraved with a distinctive camouflage pattern.
After a black ion-plated (IP) coating is applied to the case and band, the gradations of the camouflage pattern are created by using dot patterns of three different sizes: small, medium, and large. The inside surface of the layer composite band incorporates lightweight, highly wear-resistant fine resin parts for an improved fit.

The elegant look of this model is created by a high-transparency sapphire crystal, as well as hour markers and dials that are precision-engineered at the Casio Yamagata Factory.
GMW-B5000TCM-1 and GMW-B5000TB-1
These are the new variations on the full-metal GMW-B5000 that incorporate titanium material into their square-faced design and inherit plenty of DNA from the original G-SHOCK DW-5000C.
The case, band, bezel, and back cover of this new model is made of lightweight, easy-on-the-wrist titanium. Titanium is notorious as being a material that is difficult to work with, and its application in this model represents a significant achievement.

The surface of the metal is finished with a diamond-like carbon (DLC) coating that protects it against scratching and other damage.
GMW-B5000TCM-1
The metal of this watch is distinguished by a laser engraved with a distinctive camouflage pattern. Commenting at the private viewing of the new 2020 range, Koji Naka, Managing Director of Casio Middle East, said, “The store concept is set to offer a truly immersive experience to CASIO fans in UAE and beyond. The Dubai Mall is a fashion hub and well known for attracting shoppers from all over the world and our new store offers a home to those passionate about the brand as well as a place for other consumers who are curious about CASIO to learn more about our brands and products.”
Naka continued, “With so many dedicated fans living in and visiting Dubai, we wanted to offer them something exclusive that they could only find at the flagship store. This is why we have limited sales of certain new MT-G and GMW models to the new store.”

Commenting on the exclusive new models being released in 2020, Mahmoud Jabsheh, General Manager of Timepiece Sales at Casio Middle East, said, “We have some truly extraordinary timepieces available only in the new store. Like the wider MT-G range, the MTG-B1000DCM-1A is high-performance, sophisticated and advanced. Along with the GMW-B5000TCM-1, its unique laser camo-print appeals to those who are looking to set themselves apart from the crowd. Meanwhile, the all-titanium GMW-B5000TB-1 offers the ultimate in lightweight, rugged beauty and traces its ancestry directly back to our original 1983 model.”
Located in The Dubai Mall’s new Zabeel extension, Casio’s new 150m² flagship store is the largest of the brand’s consumer outlets in the Middle East and the latest retail space to feature the brand’s design concept inspired by “Toughness”, the characteristic is reflected in the overall finish and materials used in the decoration of the space reflected in brick walls and brushed steel surfaces.
As the new home in the region for the brand, the space is also set to host a series of activations and events in the coming months. The new store is home to a vast range of Casio timepieces, including the G-SHOCK Collection, as well as the BABY-G, PRO TREK, SHEEN and EDIFICE lineups.
It also showcases local collaborations with Arab Watch Guide, Nuna Atelier and Rex Cas well as international limited-edition collaborations with the likes of boxing Everlast, the American boxing brand, world-renowned virtual band, The Gorillaz and ASAP.

Dubai International Baja is Now Underway

After months of preparation, the final event in the international off-road rallying season is underway. Crews have completed the spectacular Qualifying Stage in the Hatta Suhaila Area and the Ceremonial Start at Dubai Festival Bay and are now focusing on the 359km of driving in Dubai’s daunting Al Qudra Desert that will make up Saturday’s Al-Futtaim Toyota Stage 2 of the event.
Lucas Moraes took victory on the first stage in Hatta by the narrowest of margins over his Toyota Gazoo Racing teammate Seth Quintero. Just 0.2s separated the Brazilian and his Spanish codriver Armand Monelon from the US star Quintero and his German co-driver Dennis Zenz in their Toyota Hilux machines.
12-time event winner and reigning champion Nasser Al Attiyah got to within 1.4s of the leading pairing on his one-off outing with his team in his Taurus T3 Max while his team-mate Khalifa Al Attiyah was fourth, less than 10 seconds from the leading crew. Father/daughter combination Lionel and Lucie Baud were a fine fifth at the end of their first stage of rallying in Dubai with their Mini JCW Rally.
It was a tough start to the weekend for a couple of pre-event favourites Khalid Aljalfa and Eduard Pons who were 2m28s and 2m40s down after the stage after delays. However, they retain every chance of vying for honours in their battle for T3 class honours in the FIA World Cup Baja series. Poland’s Konrad Dabrowski took the early bragging rights among the two-wheel entry, the 23-year-old steering his Duust Rally Team KTM 450 to the fastest time in the 3.4km timed run at Hatta.
That was 25 seconds faster than Rafic Eid of Lebanon on his Gasgas and 28.2 seconds quicker than Pedro Bianchi Prata on his Honda CRF. Leading Quad rider on the Yamaha Raptors in the opening test was local man Abdulaziz Ahli, who had just under ten seconds in hand over Abdulaziz Al Atawi with the Saudi’s fellow countryman third Hani Al Noumesi third.
Following the stage in Hatta, the crews made their way back to the Service Park in Dubai Festival City for the tactically important Start Selection Ceremony. The competitors were then flagged away at Ceremonial Start in front of the fans in Dubai Festival City by His Highness Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council in the company of His Excellency Mohammed Ahmed ben Sulayem, President of the FIA, Omar Abdullah Al Futtaim, Vice Chairman and CEO of the Al Futtaim Group and His Excellency Dr Amer Al Zarooni Chief Executive Officer of the Al Jalila Foundation.
The crews then turned their attention to the challenges of Al-Futtaim Toyota Stage 2. In total there are 395km of timed ‘selective’ sections across the weekend and, with the untimed sections, the crews are facing a total of 867km of driving and riding until the champions of Dubai International Baja 2024 are crowned.
This year’s innovative use of the rugged landscape around Hatta means that gravel/dirt tracks make up 20% of the total route terrain on the selective sections. The rest is made up of open desert (35%) and 45% on the daunting dunes of Dubai which have made this rally so famous and popular with crews the world over.
Al-Futtaim Toyota Stage 2 begins at 8 am (Saturday 30th November) with the first crews expected to complete the selective sections from 11.30 am onwards, after which the teams will return to the Service Park in Dubai Festival Mall where they will be on view to spectators throughout the day. Now in its eighth edition under the Baja format, the event draws top competitors from around the globe to tackle the challenging dunes of Dubai.
Held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and organised by the Emirates Motorsport Organization (EMSO) in collaboration with the Dubai Sports Council, the Baja is supported by Official Automotive Partner Al-Futtaim Toyota, Energy Partner ENOC, and the strategic collaboration of the Dubai Government and its entities, including the Dubai Police, RTA and Dubai Municipality.
