When it comes to choosing the right laptop there are quite a few things to consider. This includes the processing power, the graphics performance, the display real estate, the price, and so on. In terms of the platforms, there really are two main choices – Windows or Mac.
Now, Windows laptops generally offer more performance and features at an affordable price point. And that really is the case with the Huawei Matebook 13. I have been using the Huawei Matebook 13 for a week now and I wanted to share my experience switching to it from a MacBook Air:

Dynabook Launches the Portégé X40L-K
Dynabook Europe GmbH has announced the Portégé X40L-K, an extension to its premium X-series range, elegantly designed to deliver a seamless user experience within the hybrid working world. The Portégé X40L-K delivers a range of exceptional features packed into an ultra-slim design that effortlessly meets the demanding requirements associated with flexible working.
“The working world has fundamentally and permanently shifted, and it is now more important than ever that devices allow employees to collaborate, connect, and switch seamlessly between the physical and online world,” said Damian Jaume, President, Dynabook Europe GmbH. “On top of that, we believe employees need to feel acknowledged and valued by their employers. By equipping individuals with this stunning and high-performance device, organisations can enhance output and motivation within their teams.”
Super compact, at only 1kg* in weight and 15.9mm thin, the Portégé X40L-K easily integrates into life on the go. With a fingerprint reader in the power button, users can start work in a matter of seconds, bringing enhanced speed and agility to the working day. Equipped with an ultra-thin bezel that maximises screen capacity, users can enjoy the productivity benefits of a 14”, 16:10 aspect ratio screen within a footprint comparable to other 13” devices on the market. A large click pad size of 109.6 x 85.6mm also allows for increased accuracy and comfort.
Encased in a Dark Tech Blue magnesium chassis, the Portégé X40L-K delivers both exceptional design and practicality. For example, the backlit keyboard offers many practical benefits – its large spill-resistant keys are lowered to avoid marks on the screen, and dedicated keys allow easy access to video conferencing functions – while being pleasing to the eye thanks to its colour-matched dark blue hue. The demands of life on the move present no problem for the Portégé X40L-K. Rigorous MIL STD 810H testing demonstrates its robustness in the face of drops, extreme temperatures, shock, vibration and other tough conditions.
The Portégé X40L-K answers the demands of mobile working with audiovisual tools that are supercharged with AI. Equipped with four premium stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos sound, the device delivers powerful audio capabilities for its size. 360-degree dual-array microphones allow voices to be picked up omnidirectionally with equal gain from all directions, giving the user the ability to roam freely around a room or to serve as the hub for multi-person conference calls. Audio and visual AI functionality minimise disruption and enhance business meetings that take place in challenging settings.
Improving overall call quality, the AI Noise Reduction isolates and filters out background noises to ensure participants can be heard clearly and effortlessly. Meanwhile the AI camera delivers lighting correction, background blurring and face framing irrespective of the conferencing platform used. In situations where workers need to use their device for long periods of time, the Portégé X40L-K’s Eyesafe Certified Display helps protect them by reducing the amount of blue light exposure while at the same time maintaining vivid colour.
When it comes to performance the Portégé X40L-K does not disappoint. Engineered to exceed Intel’s exacting Evo classification, the device is powered by the latest 12th generation Intel Core processors coupled with up to 32GB of dual-channel LPDDR5 memory running at 4800MHz, to handle the most intensive of business tasks. Meanwhile, ultra-fast PCIe Gen4 SSD drives up to 1TB provide ample storage, and a 4-cell 65Wh battery delivers up to impressive 11-hours battery life, easily powering users throughout an entire working day.
An array of ports and connectivity options fully equips the device for hybrid working. Two USB-C ports with Thunderbolt 4 capability support data transfer, power delivery, and display. Additionally, two USB 3.2 Type-A and one HDMI 2.0 port, Gigabit LAN, an external headphone/microphone combo socket, and a micro-SD card slot are all cleverly fitted into this slimline device. Wi-Fi 6E, as well as optional LTE, provides true ‘work anywhere’ connectivity.
With security rightly a top priority for organisations today, the Portégé X40L-K easily meets Microsoft’s Secured-core device requirements. Users can be assured their sensitive information is protected with a biometric Fingerprint reader integrated into the power button, combined with optional face authentication. Equipped with a security lock slot and webcam shutter slider, the device also provides extra privacy options.
The Portégé X40L-K will be available from August 2022.

ASUS Republic of Gamers Announces ROG Strix SCAR 17 Special Edition
ASUS Republic of Gamers (ROG) has today announced the brand-new 2022 ROG Strix SCAR 17 Special Edition gaming laptop. This upgraded Strix SCAR houses the latest hardware and cutting-edge cooling solutions to power class-leading gaming experiences. A custom vapor chamber, paired with Conductonaut Extreme liquid metal applied to both the CPU and GPU, allows the SCAR 17 SE to push its hardware further than ever before. The SCAR 17 SE also features a distinct cyberpunk aesthetic, with first-of-its-kind invisible ink applied directly to its metal chassis.
At CES 2022, ROG introduced the 2022 ROG Strix SCAR, delivering top-tier gaming performance with the latest components from Intel and NVIDIA. For Computex 2022, ROG is releasing the Strix SCAR 17 SE, a special edition variant with even more power under the hood. ROG engineered the SCAR 17 SE for gamers who need a no-compromise, tournament-ready gaming machine.
The improvements start at the beating heart of the machine, powered by the brand new Intel Core i9-12950HX, an incredibly powerful 65 W laptop CPU. The SCAR 17 SE was able to achieve an incredible score of 22,257 in the Cinebench R23 multithreaded test when in Turbo mode, a result rivaling desktop performance. The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti Laptop GPU also has a maximum TGP of up to 175 W with Dynamic Boost, purpose-built to deliver the highest amount of frames on either its QHD 240 Hz panel.
The other components in the machine leave no performance on the table. The SCAR 17 SE features up to 32 GB of blazingly fast 4800 MHz DDR5 RAM, PCIe Gen 4 storage in a RAID 0 array that leaves loading times in the dust, and a dedicated MUX Switch for peak gaming performance. WiFi 6E and a 2.5 Gbps Ethernet port mean that gamers can confidently launch an online match from anywhere.
Adding more powerful components is only half of the equation, as these high-end parts require powerful cooling to operate at peak performance. The ROG Strix SCAR 17 SE features all of ROG’s Intelligent Cooling innovations to allow the machine to reach its full potential. ROG has used Thermal Grizzly’s liquid metal compound in various laptops for the last three years, which reduces CPU temperatures by up to 10°C compared to traditional thermal pastes.
This year, ROG’s engineering team collaborated with Thermal Grizzly again to develop an even higher-performance liquid metal formula called Conductonaut Extreme, which the SCAR 17 SE uses on both the CPU and GPU. Offering around 5°C lower temperatures than standard liquid metal thermal compound, this was the first step to unlocking the true performance potential of the SCAR 17 SE.
The ROG Strix SCAR 17 SE’s unique additions are not limited to the internals. The chassis features the same RGB lighting and customizable Armor Caps as the standard Strix SCAR, but with an extra secret: specially developed invisible ink. Traditional invisible ink, commonly used on paper, wouldn’t stand the test of time when applied to the metal lid of the SCAR 17 SE. ROG’s research and development team painstakingly created a substance that perfectly blends in with the SCAR 17 SE’s metal lid.
In normal lighting, this substance has a matte metallic texture, but with a UV flashlight, the ink appears green and blue. It took six months and seven formulations to perfect, but this new invisible ink has passed a suite of wear and durability tests, giving gamers a unique pairing of function and form that is sure to dazzle. This cryptic text also holds clues to help beat SCAR Runner, a standalone first-person parkour game set in the ROG SAGA universe.
ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 17 SE will be available from 17th June in UAE from Virgin Megastore, Jumbo, Sharaf DG, Emax, Ecity, AL Ershad, and Amazon. Priced at AED 17,499.
