Review: KIOXIA EXCERIA High Endurance UHS-I Micro-SDXC

Published

If you’re a frequent driver, you’ve likely come to recognise the importance of dashcams. These devices are particularly indispensable in various countries, where they’re practically mandatory for car insurance coverage. Beyond meeting insurance requirements, they prove to be excellent companions for documenting road trips and sharing your journeys with friends and family. I’ve been using a dashcam for years and have grown to value the top-notch footage it captures. However, the effectiveness of recording with a dashcam diminishes when your recording media lacks reliability.

So, when KIOXIA offered me the chance to review their Exceria High Endurance UHS-I Micro-SDXC card, I seized the opportunity. These microSD memory cards are purpose-built for Full HD video recording and are specifically designed for surveillance and dashboard cameras. The cards’ impressive endurance capability makes them ideal for continuous writing and rewriting, greatly reducing the risk of video recording failures.

The KIOXIA EXCERIA High Endurance UHS-I Micro-SDXC card is available in storage capacities of 32GB, 64GB, 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB. For this review, KIOXIA sent us the 256GB variant. This card comes packed with an SD adapter for easy file transfer. On paper, it offers a read speed of up to 100 MB/s and a write speed of up to 65 MB/s. It is also temperature-proof from -25 to +85 degrees Celsius, is shockproof, and offers three years of warranty.

In real-world tests, I was genuinely pleased to observe the EXCERIA High Endurance Micro-SDXC UHS-I card transferring videos to my PC at a remarkable speed of nearly 100 MB/s. Additionally, I used the Crystal DiskMark benchmark tool to validate KIOXIA’s claims, and the results confirmed that these cards lived up to their promises.

The KIOXIA EXCERIA High Endurance 256GB microSDXC card impressively lives up to its speed class, aligning well with the stated specifications. It uses BiCS 3D Flash memory technology from Toshiba and boasts a range of valuable features, including waterproof, shockproof, X-ray proof, temperature resistance, ESD immunity, and safeguards against overheating and ignition.

This product is backed by a generous 3-year warranty and is fully capable of recording in 4K resolution. For a price of 79.99 euros (AED 314), the KIOXIA EXCERIA High Endurance UHS-I Micro-SDXC comes across as highly recommended.
