Video: Road Test of the MG RX8

Published

on

The MG RX8 is the company’s first seven-seater SUV. The RX8 is available in three variants – the standard 2WD option, the COM 4WD option, and the one we are reviewing here, the LUX version which offers 6 points automatic transmission along with 4WD functionality and boatloads of features.

Under the hood, the RX8 is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine that produces 163 horsepower and 360 Nm of torque.

The motor is paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission and features a 4WD system. You get 20-inch wheels on this model and a ground clearance of 202 mm.

The car also comes with Keyless Entry and Start Button, Rear Spoiler with LED Brake Light, Tinted Windshields, Auto On/Off Headlamp, LED Front Fog Lamp, and LED Headlamp. You also get Power Tailgate, Rain Sensor, and Rear Axle Differential Lock.

As for the interior, the RX8 LUX version offers leather seats and upholsteries.

On the center of the dashboard, you will find the 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system that offers Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

You can access features such as navigation, media, AC controls, and so on through the infotainment system. Audio is channeled through the 8-speaker system around you in the cabin.

You also get Air Cleaner, Wireless Charger, Front Seats Ventilation, Cruise Control, Panoramic Sunroof, Leather Steering Wheel, and Paddle Shift.

Inside, the RX8 feels quite spacious and confirmable. The third-row seats are collapsible in case you need more cargo space to carry large items. On the rear, you get Climate Control and USB port for charging along with a 220V power outlet.

The RX8 offers 4WD capabilities and six terrain modes that include modes like Auto, 4L, Off-Road, Snow, Sport, and 2H for fuel-efficiency.

The overall drivetrain on the RX8 works like a charm delivering all the punch you need, precisely when you want it. The automatic gear shifts feel precise, with ratios being on the point.

The RX8 impressed me with its body manners and it still feels pretty much planted to the road even at triple-digit speeds. Though body rolls are apparent around the bends and corners, they aren’t overly glaring. The suspension on the RX8 is a sweet spot – I was quite amazed at how silently it works.

The 2020 MG RX8 is affordable and capable. For a price point that starts at AED 87,150, the MG RX8 feels like a perfect family car that is a pleasure to drive around town and indulge in occasional off-roading, too. And considering the company’s six-year or 200,000 km warranty that comes as standard, the MR RX8 will be easy on your pockets to maintain for years.
