Bose Intros QuietComfort Earbuds, Sport Earbuds, and Bose Frames

Published

on

Bose has announced the new QuietComfort Earbuds, delivering all the “quiet” of Bose around-ear noise-canceling headphones in a gorgeous in-ear design. Bose also introduces new Sport Earbuds — entirely re-engineered to produce amazing sound from smaller, slimmer enclosures that stay securely in place — almost magically — without pain, pressure, or ear hooks.

The new QC Earbuds debut proprietary advancements in hardware and software to continue the 20-year legacy of QC headphones. Each bud measures just over an inch long and weighs 8.5-gms. Yet they perform like every QuietComfort before them, transforming even the harshest environments into hushed sanctuaries — silencing the blare of trucks, buses, and horns during rush hour, or muting the simple distractions from the next room, next office, or the apartment next door.

The Bose Sport Earbuds were built from the ground up to be the ultimate workout companion. They deliver better audio quality than their predecessor in about half their size. And everything about them is optimized for your performance — how they feel and fit, how easy they are to control, and how durable and reliable they are, whether you’re training at home, the gym, or outdoors.

The QC Earbuds are available for AED 1,199, the Sport Earbuds will be sold for AED 779. Both are available starting from October 5th and can be pre-ordered starting tomorrow (September 11, 2020). “We spent a lot of time making sure our new QuietComfort Earbuds were the most effective noise cancelling in-ear headphones ever,” said Mehul Trivedi, category director, Bose wearable audio. “But they also sound incredible and are a pleasure to wear and use. That’s an unbeatable combination that puts them ahead of the industry and makes them every bit a QuietComfort.”

The QC earbuds are a technical tour de force. To physically block unwanted sounds, new StayHear Max tips create a soft-yet-tight seal. And the buds do the rest. They use multiple microphones to sense, measure, and send any remaining noise to a proprietary electronic chip loaded with an exclusive new algorithm. Together with tiny transducers, the system responds with a precise, equal, and opposite signal in less than a fraction of a millisecond. The result is dramatic and exclusive to Bose. In an instant, the buzz of nearby coffee grinders fade to a whisper, and the roar from engines and construction all but vanish.

The QC Earbuds come with 11 levels of noise control so you can choose how much of the world you let in or keep out. It’s easy to set preferences and change them anytime — from “transparency” that keeps you aware of your surroundings, to full noise cancellation that lets you tune out completely or hear every detail from your content and conversations.

Bose has also announced three new Frames — each combining the protection and style of premium sunglasses with the functionality of premium headphones in one revolutionary wearable. The new Frames Tempo delivers the best performance in the Frames line-up and is engineered specifically for outdoor workouts — like biking, running, and climbing. The Frames Tenor and Soprano are for everyday use with improved style, design, and acoustics over the original. Both feature Bose’s proprietary Open Ear Audio Technology and the tiniest, thinnest, most invisible Bose speaker systems ever. The result is a breakthrough in mobile audio: immersive sound from eyewear — not earbuds.

The new Frames Tempo, Tenor, and Soprano have polarized lenses; block up to 99% of UV rays; and look, fit, and perform like the world’s most acclaimed sunglasses for outdoor sports and daily wear. Whether you’re out competitively or casually, they provide the same situational awareness — there’s nothing in your ears or over them. Their wafer-thin Bose systems are discreetly embedded in each arm without extra parts, visible screws, seams, or perforations.

You can’t see the electronics, and you can’t feel them either. Adding less than 50 grams of weight, the difference is imperceptible — until you turn them on. Then, Frames transform, wirelessly connecting to your phone to stream music, take and make calls, and use your personal assistant — privately. Using exclusive Bose technology, their sound is richer and clearer than their predecessor, but can be just as personal: with their speaker systems precisely configured and directed towards you, content and conversations are seemingly isolated in an audio bubble that you can hear, but others can’t.

If required, the lenses can be replaced with prescription versions. The new Frames are available today through pre-order and ready to purchase on 24th September through Bose and select resellers. They will all be sold for AED 1,049.

The Frames Tempo redefines sport sunglasses — crushing their limitations entirely. Made from TR90, they’re durable, lightweight and flexible to withstand extreme temperatures and extreme training. They use custom-designed spring hinges and TPE (Thermoplastic Elastomer) temple tips for comfortable stability around the head. And their nose pads come in three shapes for the right amount of grip to avoid slipping down the face. During marathons and triathlons, on the water, off-road, or at high-speeds down steep declines, they don’t move, shake, or shift when you do.

Tempo’s acoustic package is an engineering phenom, producing the highest fidelity in the Frames family. A 22mm full-range driver is embedded in each temple to play deeper and louder — loud enough for cycling at 25 MPH — while still being able to hear traffic, warnings, training partners, and teammates.

The first Bose Frames stunned the industry and owners alike — and the new Tenor and Soprano are better in almost every way. Tenor is a smaller, square style; Soprano is a subtle cat-eye. In both, every angle, material, and component was carefully chosen and skillfully crafted for higher quality, improved appearance, and supreme comfort — all the more remarkable given their designs house and hide all the electronics, including two 16-mm speakers. What you wear and see are gorgeous sunglasses — from the precise balance of weight on the head and resistance in the hinges, to the curves of the bridge and ultra-high-gloss finish.

But what you hear is equally impressive: Tenor and Soprano have noticeably better bass response so playlists are reproduced with more depth and detail. Tenor and Soprano are scratch and shatter resistant with an extended battery life of 5.5 hours through an included, custom pogo-pin charger. Their lenses can be easily changed with different options: mirrored blue and silver for Tenor, rose and purple-fade for Soprano.

HUAWEI Intros Open-Ear FreeArc Earbuds

Published

on

Huawei has launched its latest audio innovation, the HUAWEI FreeArc, further solidifying its leadership in the fast-growing open-ear wearables segment. Designed for comfort and situational awareness, the FreeArc offers a secure, pressure-free fit without blocking the ear canal—catering to users who demand high-quality audio without sacrificing awareness of their surroundings.

Open-ear earbuds, which sit outside the ear rather than inside it, have surged in popularity due to their comfort and safety benefits, particularly for fitness enthusiasts, commuters, and professionals. According to Canalys, global shipments of open-ear headphones reached nearly 8 million units in Q3 2024—a staggering fourfold increase from the same period last year.

Huawei has been at the forefront of this shift. The company ranked first in global wearable shipments for the first three quarters of 2024 (IDC), backed by its extensive audio R&D network—including seven research centers, over 1,000 audio specialists, and more than 250 patents. Its first open-ear model, the HUAWEI FreeClip, has already surpassed 2 million units shipped worldwide, demonstrating strong consumer demand for innovative wearable audio solutions.

Huawei’s journey in open-ear wearables began in 2019 with its collaboration with Gentle Monster on HUAWEI Eyewear, blending fashion with cutting-edge audio technology. The FreeClip, launched later, marked Huawei’s entry into the Open Wireless Stereo (OWS) category, featuring a flexible C-bridge design for a lightweight, breathable fit.

Now, the FreeArc takes this legacy further as Huawei’s first open-ear earbuds with earhooks. Built with a nickel-titanium alloy frame, the new model enhances stability and adaptability for a wider range of ear shapes while retaining the signature C-bridge comfort. Engineered for active lifestyles, the FreeArc boasts an IP57 rating for dust and water resistance, making it ideal for workouts, travel, and daily commutes. Key enhancements include:

  1. High-sensitivity drivers for crisp, balanced sound
  2. Dual-Resonator Antenna for stronger connectivity
  3. Wind-resistant microphones for clearer calls in outdoor environments

With the FreeArc, Huawei continues to refine its open-ear offerings, combining ergonomic design with practical durability.

Apple’s Beats Unveils Powerbeats Pro 2 with Heart-Rate Monitoring

Published

on

Apple Inc.’s Beats division has unveiled the long-awaited Powerbeats Pro 2, which features noise cancellation, a heart-rate monitor, and a revamped design aimed at athletes. This new model incorporates capabilities seen in Apple’s AirPods, such as transparency mode for better external noise awareness and the H2 chip for enhanced sound quality. Additionally, it offers improved spatial audio for a 3D listening experience and comes with a smaller, wireless charging case.

The heart-rate monitor is a notable first for Apple-designed earbuds, expanding the company’s health-related features, and utilizes technology found in the Apple Watch. Despite a slow holiday season for Apple’s wearables business—with sales in the division falling nearly 2% to about $11.8 billion—the introduction of these new earbuds is anticipated to drive interest and sales.

Priced at $250, the same as the previous model, the new Powerbeats Pro 2 will be available in black, orange, purple, and a color called quicksand. This price point matches the AirPods Pro 2, although the Powerbeats may be more appealing to athletes due to their secure ear hooks.

Apple Vice President Oliver Schusser, who oversees Beats as well as the company’s sports, TV+, and music initiatives, hailed the new Powerbeats as “the most impressive product in Beats’ history.” Acquired by Apple in 2014 for $3 billion, Beats remains the company’s largest acquisition to date.

The heart-rate monitor will be compatible with fitness apps like Peloton, Nike Run Club, Ladder, and Slopes, with data integration into the Apple Health app. The earbuds will also be compatible with Android devices. Apple is reportedly working on AirPods with heart-rate monitoring, though they are still many months away from release.

In terms of battery life, the Powerbeats Pro 2 holds an advantage over AirPods, with 10 hours of usage on their own and 45 hours with the charging case, compared to six hours for AirPods alone and up to 30 hours with the case. However, AirPods continue to offer unique features, such as a new hearing aid functionality.
