LG Launches Wearable Air Purifier in the UAE

Following its unveiling at IFA 2020, LG Electronics (LG) has today launched its personal air solution in the UAE market – the LG PuriCare Wearable Air Purifier. LG’s PuriCare Wearable Air Purifier has been in development since 2017 – undergoing three years of extensive R&D and product testing.
Within its research, LG identified common challenges for mask-wearers, including regulating air flow without becoming too warm or claustrophobic and having glasses periodically fog up. Additionally, as people become more conscious of the environment, the need for a more sustainable solution was clear.

The PuriCare Wearable has been ergonomically designed, based on extensive facial shape analysis. The device fits snugly around the user’s face, minimizing air leakage around the nose and chin area. The face guard also features a silicone pad which seeks to promote comfortable fit for hours on end and reduce the fogging up of glasses, while the inner cover prevents internal contamination.
To deliver a new level of personal protection, the LG PuriCare Wearable Air Purifier harnesses two H13 HEPA filters, which work to prevent up to 99.95% of harmful airborne matter, such as viruses, bacteria and common allergens from entering the wearer’s respiratory system. LG’s patented Respiratory Sensor detects the cycle and volume of the user’s breathing, automatically adjusting the PuriCare Wearable Air Purifier’s DUAL Fans accordingly via three-speed settings. The dynamic fans are able to speed up when the wearer is inhaling, and slow down to reduce resistance upon exhaling.

The LG PuriCare Wearable Air Purifier comes with a built-in, rechargeable 820 battery which can deliver up to eight hours of operation at low speed and two hours on the highest setting. To recharge, users simply need to connect the device to a power source using the provided USB C cable. For added convenience, key components such as the filters, inner cover, face guard, ear straps and strap extenders are also easy to remove and replace – extending usability.
Coming soon, LG will also release a unique case for the PuriCare Wearable Air Purifier, which deploys the company’s UVnano sanitization technology to eliminate 99.99 percent of germs in just 30 minutes, using UV-C LED lights. The case can also remove moisture from internal components caused by the wearer’s breath, charge the device from empty to full in just two hours and send notifications to the user’s smartphone via the LG ThinQ app when filters need replacing.

“The introduction of the PuriCare Wearable Air Purifier to the UAE market represents our continued commitment to not only championing innovation, but also bringing advanced technology to market at rapid pace. While this device could not be any timelier demand for portable protection and access to clean air is not new. For years, we have seen growing interest and concern for maintaining good air quality – which is why we have continued to expand our PuriCare lineup. We are seeing interest in sectors ranging from government and B2B organizations, right through to everyday consumers. We are proud to empower people across the UAE to breathe better air, while remaining comfortable,” said Hongju Jeon, President, LG Electronics Gulf.
The LG PuriCare Wearable Air Purifier is now available in the UAE at select Carrefour, Sharaf DG, and ACE stores for the retail price of AED 699. Two H13 HEPA Filters are provided in the box, with additional filters available for the retail price of AED 59.

Review: HomePure Zayn Air Purifier

The HomePure Zayn Air Purifier claims to remove 99.94% of viral particles from indoor air. The air purifier combines a prefilter and patented HPP+ Electrostatic Film to eliminate particles as small as 0.1 microns. The device also comes with an enhanced antiviral HPP+ filter cartridge. This antiviral mesh filter houses a tri-layer system that removes 99.94% of viruses.
Inside the box, you get the Zayn Air Purifier, the quick start guide, the warranty info, a plastic stand, and the power adapter with multiple plug options. The Zayn comes packed with Ultraviolet light and an Ultra-Plasma Ion Filter to kill airborne viruses and bacteria. There is also an Activated Carbon Filter, which eliminates unpleasant odours, gasses, and vapours.
The device also comes with built-in air quality sensors, an indicator to alert users when the filter needs changing, child-safe lock features, and a night mode that dims lights for worry-free sleep. In addition, the device is designed for easy maintenance – you can simply wipe it clean whenever you change the filter.
Setting up the device is quite simple. The top and bottom parts of the HomePure Zayn get magnetically attached. Once it is detached, you will be able to replace the HPP+ filter cartridge. The body of the device is made of plastic and you will find all the buttons to operate it on the top of the device.
These touch-sensitive buttons include ion, UV, fan speed level, child lock, night mode, and timer. There is also an HPP+ Filter Change Indicator on the top. In the center of the button panel is the power button.
The air purifier has been certified by the European Centre for Allergy Research Foundation (ECARF) and it covers an indoor area of up to 36 sqm. The company claims that the Zayn can reduce viral particles including the novel coronavirus. It should be noted that when used properly, air purifiers and HVAC filters can help reduce airborne contaminants including viruses in a building or small space. However, by itself, air cleaning or filtration is not enough to protect people from COVID-19.
Once the device is switched on, the LED indicator near the vents will light up in orange or green to indicate the quality of air in the surrounding. We were able to go from orange to green in about 1 hour of operating the device. While reviewing the device, we closed the windows of the room where Zayn was tested in.
For a price of $770, the HomePure Zayn is a good device, though there is no support for a smartphone app, like many air purifiers out there in the market. However, if you are in the market for an air purifier that comes with an ion filter, HPP+ filter, and a UV light built-in, you should definitely check out the HomePure Zayn.
