Review: Oppo Reno4 Pro 5G
Oppo announced the new Reno4 series a while ago alongside the Reno4 Pro and the Reno4. The Oppo Reno4 Pro 5G is positioned as a mid-range smartphone that offers lots of premium look and feel. The overall design and build quality of the Oppo Reno4 Pro 5G is top-notch.
The Reno4 Pro 5G has a decent looking design and you get a slim and light device, that’s comfortable to hold. The glass back is smooth, while the anti-glare glass is especially hard to leave a fingerprint on and is also scratch resistant.
On the front, you get a 6.5-inch AMOLED Curved FHD+ display that offers a 2400-by-1080 resolution and a 20:9 aspect ratio, with an under-display fingerprint sensor. The display offers a refresh rate of 90Hz. Up top, you also get a 32MP front pinhole AI selfie camera on the top left hand corner.
On the left edge you get the volume rockers, while the right edge has the power button. A metal band runs around the curved edges of the display. On the bottom is the USB-C charging port and the SIM tray. Sadly though, there is no SD card slot and you don’t get a 3.5-inch audio jack either.
Turn the phone around and you come face to face with a triple camera module. Now, this includes the main camera which comes with a 48MP IMX586 Sony sensor with optical image stabilisation. You also get an ultra-wide angle lens that features a 12MP Sony IMX708 sensor with a 120 degree field of view. In addition, there is a telephoto lens that offers a resolution of 13MP with a 5X hybrid optical zoom.
All the three cameras can shoot HDR, use AI scene detection and have laser autofocus, which does a quick and accurate job. The quality of the images and videos were really good under good lighting conditions. You also get a wide range of modes, including the excellent Night Mode, that does a good job of capturing images in low light.
Under the hood, the Reno4 Pro 5G is powered by the Snapdragon 765G CPU and an Adreno 620 GPU, coupled with 12GB of RAM. You also get a storage capacity of 256GB which is quite sufficient, even though, as mentioned before, the microSD card slot is missing.
In terms of battery, the phone is powered by a large 4000mAh battery, which is good enough for a normal day’s use without having to recharge it. In case you do require recharging, the Reno4 Pro 5G supports Oppo’s SuperVOOC 2.0 charging technology. The phone comes with a 65W charger that delivers 11% of charge in 2 minutes, 27% in 5 minutes, 66% in 15 minutes and a full charge in an astonishingly quick 36 minutes.
The phone also comes with 5G capabilities, which is quite big in the current market. The Reno4 Pro 5G runs on Android 10 operating system with the company’s very own ColorOS 7.2 running on top of it. Coupled with the powerful internals, the Reno4 Pro 5G was able to perform really well. It was able to handle everything thrown at it.
For a price of AED 2499, we feel the Oppo Reno4 Pro 5G is a bit overpriced when compared to similar devices available on the market. However, if you are used to the Oppo ecosystem, you can’t go wrong with the Reno4 Pro 5G.
Price: AED 2499
