Review: Realme 7i

Realme has been on a launching spree and the company recently announced the availability of the 7i on the regional market. Priced at at very attractive AED 799, the phone offers good features and performance for those wanting a quality product at a pocket-friendly price tag.

Inside the box, you het the handset, an 18W fast charger, a USB Type-C cable, a Protective Case, the SIM card tool, and the quick start guide with the warranty card. On the right edge, you will find the power button and the volume rockers. On the left edge, you will find the dual SIM + microSD card slot.

On the bottom edge, you will find the USB-C port, the 3.5mm jack, and the phone’s single speaker vent. The Realme 7i comes with a 6.5-inch touchscreen display that offers a resolution of 720-by-1600 pixels and a refresh rate of 90Hz. Under the hood, the Realme 7i is powered by a 2-GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 processor.

It also comes packed with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage space, which can be further expanded using the microSD card slot. The Realme 7i runs Android 9 operating system and also comes with Realme’s very own Realme UI V1.0 on top of it. The phone is powered by a 5000mAh battery and also supports the company’s 18W Quick Charge function which takes just 30 minutes to charge up to 33%.

As far as the cameras are concerned, the Realme 7i comes packed with a quad camera setup. Now, this includes a 64-megapixel primary camera with an f/1.8 aperture, an 8-megapixel camera with an f/2.2 aperture, a 2-megapixel camera with an f/2.4 aperture, and a 2-megapixel camera with an f/2.4 aperture. There’s a fingerprint scanner just next to the camera module.

On the front, the also sports a 16-megapixel camera for selfies, with an f/2.1 aperture. Apart from the dedicated microSD card slot, the Realme 7i comes with a dual-SIM capacity that accepts Nano-SIM cards. The phone is available in two colours – Aurora Green and Polar Blue. Sensors on the phone include accelerometer, ambient light sensor, gyroscope, proximity sensor, and fingerprint sensor.

In terms of performance, the Realme 7i is quite breezy when it comes to multi-tasking between multiple open apps. We did not encounter any issues when shuffling between multiple open app windows. The photography and videography capability of the Realme 7i is very good.

The camera app is clearly arranged and simple to use -you get options to shoot portraits, night mode, full-64MP, and videos right from the main screen. Other options include macro mode, Google Lens, slow-mo, time-lapse, and pro mode. The depth of field while taking the picture is hassle free, too.

Under good lighting conditions, the camera does a good job of capturing the frame. The well-lit results with warm tones are good for prints and socials. And once you turn on the AI Dazzle mode, you can vibe up the saturation. And for a wide perspective, use the 8MP ultra-wide mode.

The night mode though needs more work. It was a hit or miss, most of the times and it was not very consistent. It does up the exposure a bit, but the overall difference isn’t very visible. So,is Realme 7i the one for you? Well, the phone sports a flashy design, big battery, feature-filled software, and reliable connectivity.
The display offers an outstanding 90Hz refresh rate at a pocket-friendly price point. However, it also does not offer the goodness of a Full HD display. Having said all of that, there’s a lot that is going on for the Realme 7i. If you are on the market for a good entry-level smartphone, but are on a strict budget, the Realme 7i could be one of the options you could consider.
