With wireless earphones and earbuds being one of the most popular audio solutions for most audiences today, its no surprise that the choices for the same have massively increased. While this does give the user more options to choose from, it also has a downside of the difficulty of making a choice.
To make this easier, we have put together some of the best choices available in the market today from the top players in the industry. This includes the Huawei FreeBuds 4i, the Apple AirPods 2, and the Samsung Galaxy Buds with its Buds+ variant.
Below, we take a look at these offerings to decipher the sound quality, battery life, and active noise cancellation feature.
Huawei FreeBuds 4i
When it comes to earphones, the most important point of comparison is often the quality of sound and with the Huawei FreeBuds 4i, you can expect some high-quality sound with sharp details for an amazing audio experience.
This is made possible mainly through a large 10mm dynamic driver for a wider range, stronger bass, and a rear chamber design for better consistency in sound effects.
Additionally, a special pop tuning also enhances the overall quality paying attention to details of instruments, rhythm, and vocals. Another key aspect is battery life – on a single full charge, the Huawei FreeBuds 4i can provide up to 10 hours of continuous music playback or 6.5 hours of voice calls, with the Active Noise Cancellation turned off.
Keeping ANC on will give 7.5 hours of continuous music playback and 5.5 hours of voice call. Pair this with the charging case and you can get up to 22 hours of music playback or 14 hours of voice call. In addition, a simple 10 minutes charge can give up to 4 hours of use.
Apple AirPods 2
Apple AirPods 2 comes with a 14.3mm driver, which does deliver a decent sound quality but is no change from the previous version. Battery life however is an improvement and wireless charging capabilities are welcome as well.
In terms of battery life, the Apple AirPods 2 delivers up to 24 hours of use on a single charge when used with the case and takes up to 15 minutes of charge for about 3 hours of use. The Apple AirPods 2 do not come with Active Noise Cancellation.
Samsung Galaxy Buds and Buds+
In terms of sound quality, these options from Samsung do deliver, even with its smaller driver sized at 9mm on the Galaxy Buds. However, the Buds+ variant comes with decent sound quality and AKG tuning with various Equalizer presets depending on what kind of music you listen to. Similar to Apple AirPods 2, however, there’s no ANC feature, which does mean longer battery life of 13 hours and 22 hours on the Samsung Galaxy Buds and Buds+ respectively.
In terms of charging speeds, the Samsung Galaxy Buds and Buds+ give around 1.67 hours and 1 hour of use with 15 minutes and 3 minutes of charging respectively. While there is no ANC on these two devices, Samsung does throw in the feature with the Pro variant.
Making the final choice boils down to the end-user and preferences, however, there are a few deciding factors that we suggest. Sound quality, battery life and active noise cancellation are key when it comes to choosing the right wireless earbuds. Another point to consider is also the price point.

Samsung Intros the new Galaxy Watch4, Galaxy Watch4 Classic, and the Galaxy Buds2
Samsung Electronics has announced the Galaxy Watch4 and Galaxy Watch4 Classic — marking a new era for smartwatch innovation. They are the first smartwatches to feature the new Wear OS Powered by Samsung, built jointly with Google, and are equipped with One UI Watch, Samsung’s most intuitive user interface yet. The Galaxy Watch4 series is bolstered with advanced hardware performance and delivers a more seamless and connected user experience than ever before. These new devices have been completely redesigned to provide consumers with the best tools to manage their wellness.
“We have seen an incredible amount of growth for the Galaxy Watch series as consumers have discovered the health benefits and convenience of wearables,” said Dr. TM Roh, President and Head of Mobile Communications Business, Samsung Electronics. “We understand the path to wellness is different for everyone, so we built a robust suite of health and wellness features to give people a deeper and more helpful understanding of their overall fitness.”
Galaxy Watch4 is equipped with Samsung’s groundbreaking BioActive Sensor, which boasts a smaller and more compact design that doesn’t detract from measurement accuracy. This new 3-in-1 sensor uses a single chip to precisely run three powerful health sensors — Optical Heart Rate, Electrical Heart and Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis — so users can monitor their blood pressure, detect an AFib irregular heartbeat, measure their blood oxygen level, and, for the first time, calculate their body composition.
The all-new Body Composition measurement tool gives users a deeper understanding of their general health and fitness, with key measurements like skeletal muscle, basal metabolic rate, body water, and body fat percentage. Now, you can easily check your body composition from your wrist with just two fingers. In about 15 seconds, your watch’s sensor will capture 2,400 data points.
These smartwatches come packed with an array of wellness features to track your daily activities and stay motivated to be your best. Choose from a wide range of guided workouts, enjoy Group Challenges with your friends and family, or set up a home gym by connecting your Galaxy Watch4 to your compatible Samsung Smart TV, where calorie counts and heart rate metrics appear on screen for easier tracking.
And when you’re ready to rest, the Galaxy Watch4 series offers our most complete picture of your sleep patterns yet, with greater detail than before. Your compatible smartphone detects the sounds of your snores, while your smartwatch measures your blood oxygen level when you sleep. Together with advanced Sleep Scores, you can learn more about your sleep patterns to get better rest.
“Simplicity, ease, and efficiency are hallmarks of the Galaxy smartwatch platform—and with Samsung’s brand-new One UI Watch, and Wear OS Powered by Samsung, we’ve made the smartwatch and Galaxy experience even more seamless. With One UI Watch, compatible apps are automatically installed on your watch when downloaded on your phone, and your important settings – like do not disturb hours and blocked callers – are synced instantly,” the company said.
Auto Switch ensures your earbuds can toggle audio between your phone and watch, depending on usage. You can also effortlessly control your mobile experience with Bixby voice, bezel, and Gesture Controls. Move your forearm up and down twice to receive calls and rotate your wrist twice to reject them — or to dismiss notifications and alarms.
Galaxy Watch4 series is also the first generation of smartwatches to feature Wear OS Powered by Samsung —a new platform that elevates every aspect of the smartwatch experience. Built by Samsung and Google, this cutting-edge platform lets you tap into an expansive ecosystem right from your wrist – with popular Google apps like Google Maps, and beloved Galaxy services11, like Samsung Pay, SmartThings, and Bixby.
The new platform also includes support for leading third-party apps12, like adidas Running, Calm, Strava, and Spotify available from Google Play. Along with our advanced hardware and even more intuitive user interface, you can enjoy smooth and convenient integrated experiences with your Galaxy Watch4. For example, our enhanced built-in compass works in tandem with Google Maps to make it easy to explore a new area.
This incredible experience is backed by serious hardware upgrades including the enhanced processor, richer displays, and expanded memory. Galaxy Watch4 series boasts the first 5nm processor in a Galaxy Watch – with 20% faster CPU and 50% more RAM, and a GPU 10 times faster than the previous generation. That means scrolling and multitasking on Galaxy Watch4 series is smooth and effortless.”We also upped the resolution on the display, up to 450 x 450 pixels, so visuals are crisper and more distinctive. And with an impressive 16GB of memory, you’ll have enough storage to download and store your favorite apps, music, and photos – with the confidence they’re secure, thanks to Samsung’s Knox security platform,” the company said.
Samsung’ leadership in eSIM technology enables users to enjoy the freedom of being able to leave their phone behind, knowing their smartwatch will automatically sync up and fill the gap. “We also know a reliable battery is essential to smartwatch. You can have up to 40 hours of battery life, more than enough to keep a charge on an overnight camping trip – even as it supports the faster processor, higher resolution display, expanded memory and more sophisticated health features. And when you need more juice quickly, 30 minutes of charging provides up to 10 hours of battery,” the company said.
Joining the Galaxy Z Series are Galaxy Buds2 – designed for a comfortable fit made to be worn all day, and provide premium sound quality so you can immerse yourself at the moment, wherever you are. As one of the latest additions to the Galaxy Buds lineup, Galaxy Buds2 joins the Galaxy Buds Live and Galaxy Buds Pro, providing more choices to consumers to fit their needs. As a part of the Galaxy ecosystem, Galaxy Buds2 makes the perfect companion to your Galaxy smartphone, tablet, or smartwatch.
Whether you use your Galaxy Buds2 to listen to music or dial into a conference call, you’ve got all the features you need to immerse yourself in your own world. The dynamic two-way speakers deliver crisp, clear high notes and deep bass, while Active Noise Cancellation helps block out unwanted noise.
If you need to hear your surroundings, simply tune back in with three adjustable ambient sound levels. And now your voice will be clearer on calls, thanks to a new, machine learning-based solution that filters out a variety of distracting background noises.
Galaxy Buds2 is Samsung’s smallest and lightest earbuds yet boasting an iconic curved shape. For a more perfect fit, we’ve developed the ‘Earbud fit test’ in the Galaxy Wearable app. Choose from four contemporary colors —graphite, white, olive, and lavender—to show off your personal style, and complete the package with third-party accessory cases.
HUAWEI FreeBuds 4 Launches in the UAE
Huawei has launched its latest addition to its line of True Wireless Stereo (TWS) Bluetooth earbuds, the HUAWEI FreeBuds 4. The earbuds boast the open-fit active noise cancellation (ANC) 2.0 technology and deliver studio-quality sound as well as all-day comfort. The HUAWEI FreeBuds 4 is also compatible with different operating systems including Android and iOS.
Users can download the HUAWEI AI Life app to adjust settings or perform various controls such as wear detection, quick control, status query, noise cancelation and device management. Upgraded with a new Open-fit ANC 2.0 technology, the earbuds feature improvements at the hardware and software level that take open-fit, comfortable noise cancellation to new levels.
The HUAWEI FreeBuds 4 are available in the UAE in two colourways including Ceramic White, Silver Frost for a price of AED 569 for pre-orders. The Pre-orders come with gifts worth 200AED+, such as a HUAWEI Mini speaker and a 3-month HUAWEI Music VIP subscription. The pre-order consumers will also enjoy a special one-year subscription to HUAWEI Loss Care FreeBuds Service.
The HUAWEI FreeBuds 4 uses a Liquid Crystal Polymer (LCP) composite diaphragm that supports a frequency range of up to 40 kHz to deliver high-resolution sound resulting in no major quality loss and trebles that sounds richer and fuller. What’s more, the HUAWEI FreeBuds 4 is equipped with a 14.3mm dynamic driver that helps produce greater and more impressive bass sounds. In terms of bass performance, the HUAWEI FreeBuds 4 adopt a newly upgraded bass enhancement engine, bass tube and motherboard to form an independently sealed sound cavity.
HUAWEI FreeBuds 4 features Adaptive Ear Matching (AEM) technology in open-fit earbuds for the first time. By automatically detecting the user’s ear shape and wearing condition, HUAWEI FreeBuds 4 can intelligently optimise the audio effect that results in consistent and high-resolution audio quality regardless of the wearing situation. Utilising a high-sensitivity microphone, the HUAWEI FreeBuds 4 can record high-fidelity sound supporting a sample rate of up to 48 kHz that can help retain rich audio details.
Using the HUAWEI AI Life app, users can record surrounding sound with ease as well as Voice Mode to enhance voice pick and reduce environmental noise. The HUAWEI FreeBuds 4 has adopted the dual-microphone hybrid denoising technology that helps improve noise cancelation. These microphones can help accurately pick up ambient noise and also features a new internal structure that can help avoid wind noise interference as well as improving sound pickup sensitivity for the internal microphone. This innovation alone can allow the earbuds to cancel out up to 25 dB of noise when noise cancellation is turned on.
Huawei has also designed multiple parameters to help the HUAWEI FreeBuds 4 achieve optimal noise-cancelation that is suitable on any condition. When users turn on the noise cancellation feature, AEM allows the earbuds to automatically detect the ear canal shape and wearing conditions and then assigns the best noise cancellation parameters from several data sets. Wearing comfort is the key to ensuring an optimal user experience when using earbuds. It also brings three enhancements to its overall curvature for a better fit. This string of optimisations not only enables a more pleasant wearing experience and increased rigidity, but it also allows for strengthened ANC performance on the earbuds.
Users who love to play first-person shooting games (FPS) will also enjoy the HUAWEI FreeBuds 4 thanks to Low Latency Mode. This mode uses a new game audio coding that can achieve a delay of 150ms in-game and can go as low as 90ms when the shooting action and sound are in sync. The earbuds also feature intuitive controls for playback and calls. Tap twice on the stem of the HUAWEI FreeBuds 4 to answer/reject a call, play/pause music, play previous/next song and enable voice assistant. Users can also swipe up and down the stem of the earbuds to control the volume and lastly a long press with enable/disable noise cancelation.
The HUAWEI FreeBuds 4 also supports dual device connections on any Huawei smartphone, tablet, PC, smartwatch or smart display, or any other smart devices running Android, iOS or Windows. Any two devices can be connected to the HUAWEI FreeBuds 4 simultaneously, which allows users to enjoy their favourite music or video without missing any calls. When a call comes in, the content will be automatically paused and seamlessly switched to the call.
The HUAWEI FreeBuds 4 are available in the UAE in two colourways including super cool Silver Frost and clean Ceramic White and will be available for pre-orders starting from 5th to 11th August at a price of 569AED. With HUAWEI Loss Care Service no matter accidental loss or damage, the users are to enjoy a one-time 50% discount on a new single earbud purchase.
