Review: Corsair Virtuoso RGB Wireless SE

Published

on

Corsair is a brand that is known for quality gaming products and over the years, the company has expanded its product portfolio to suit the requirements of gamers out there. The company also carries a range of gaming headphones, with the Virtuoso RGB Wireless SE being one of them.

This one is a premium gaming headphone that offers a balance in sound and voice quality, support for the audio frequency that ranges between 20Hz-40kHz. In addition, the headphone also comes with a detachable broadcast-grade microphone, which will come in handy during your live gaming streams.

In terms of look and feel, the Virtuoso RGB Wireless SE offers a minimalist design and is available in black, white, and SE gunmetal colour options. You also get plush memory foam earpads and headbands for all-day, all-night listening.

The headphones employ two high-density 50mm neodymium speakers with a tolerance of ± 1dB, that offer great sound quality. As mentioned earlier, the Virtuoso RGB Wireless SE also features an omnidirectional microphone, which is removable. The microphone also offers a refresh rate of up to 10kHz.

Connecting the Virtuoso headphones is a walk in the park. You can connect it using Slipstream Wireless, a technology that allows you to connect up to three compatible devices to a single wireless USB dongle. You can also connect it through a high-fidelity USB wire, or through the 3.5mm audio jack. The choice is yours.

Since the headphones are Discord certified, you get excellent sound and voice quality. When connected through Slipstream Wireless, a very good wireless range of 18 meters. However, once you connect the headphones through the USB port, you unlock a few bells and whistles. This includes 24-bit / 96 kHz high-fidelity sound and 7.1 surround sound.

Since it is a wireless headphone, battery life is something to be looked at. In this department, too, the Virtuoso RGB Wireless SE shines. On a single charge, the headphones offer 20 hours of wireless use. The headphones also come with a smart monitoring function based on accelerometers, which conserves energy when you remove the headphones.

Real-world performance is quite good. The Virtuoso offers a really good 7.1 Surround Sound performance, especially in first-person shooters. We tested it out in Call of Duty Modern Warfare and we came away impressed. I was able to hear everything that happened on the battlefield, including the approaching footsteps. Corsair also allows you to customise the RGB and EQ settings using the iCUE software. So I did just that. Meddling around with the settings is a piece of cake and quite intuitive.

The Corsair Virtuoso RGB Wireless SE is a beautiful set of headphones. It does not scream “gamer headset”, instead it offers a bit of style and sophistication when it comes to the overall look and feel of the headphones. The headset also comes with a set of connectivity options including blazing fast Slipstream Wireless, USB-C, and 3.5mm. For a price of AED 800, the Corsair Virtuoso RGB Wireless SE isn’t exactly cheap.

However, for that price point, the headphone offers really good audio quality. The headphones offer low latency when using their USB dongle. During our tests, the headphones offered around 14 hours of playback time, which is still quite good. If you are on the market for a pair of headphones that perform as well as they look, the Corsair Virtuoso RGB Wireless SE is something you could consider.

Apple’s Beats Unveils Powerbeats Pro 2 with Heart-Rate Monitoring

Published

on

Apple Inc.’s Beats division has unveiled the long-awaited Powerbeats Pro 2, which features noise cancellation, a heart-rate monitor, and a revamped design aimed at athletes. This new model incorporates capabilities seen in Apple’s AirPods, such as transparency mode for better external noise awareness and the H2 chip for enhanced sound quality. Additionally, it offers improved spatial audio for a 3D listening experience and comes with a smaller, wireless charging case.

The heart-rate monitor is a notable first for Apple-designed earbuds, expanding the company’s health-related features, and utilizes technology found in the Apple Watch. Despite a slow holiday season for Apple’s wearables business—with sales in the division falling nearly 2% to about $11.8 billion—the introduction of these new earbuds is anticipated to drive interest and sales.

Priced at $250, the same as the previous model, the new Powerbeats Pro 2 will be available in black, orange, purple, and a color called quicksand. This price point matches the AirPods Pro 2, although the Powerbeats may be more appealing to athletes due to their secure ear hooks.

Apple Vice President Oliver Schusser, who oversees Beats as well as the company’s sports, TV+, and music initiatives, hailed the new Powerbeats as “the most impressive product in Beats’ history.” Acquired by Apple in 2014 for $3 billion, Beats remains the company’s largest acquisition to date.

The heart-rate monitor will be compatible with fitness apps like Peloton, Nike Run Club, Ladder, and Slopes, with data integration into the Apple Health app. The earbuds will also be compatible with Android devices. Apple is reportedly working on AirPods with heart-rate monitoring, though they are still many months away from release.

In terms of battery life, the Powerbeats Pro 2 holds an advantage over AirPods, with 10 hours of usage on their own and 45 hours with the charging case, compared to six hours for AirPods alone and up to 30 hours with the case. However, AirPods continue to offer unique features, such as a new hearing aid functionality.
