Chevrolet Intros Special Edition 2022 Corvette Stingray

Published

on

Chevrolet took over the Raceway at Belle Isle Park today to celebrate Corvette Racing’s dominant 2020 season by introducing the 2022 Corvette Stingray IMSA GTLM Championship Edition. In left-hand drive markets, such as the Middle East, Chevrolet will release just 1,000 of these distinctively styled Corvettes, which resemble the No. 3 and No. 4 Corvette C8.R race cars. These special edition supercars were designed to commemorate the mid-engine Corvette C8.R’s inaugural season. In 2020, Corvette Racing swept IMSA’s sports car championship series, taking the Manufacturers, Drivers, and Team titles.

“The Chevrolet Corvette is an icon on the roads in the Middle East, a region known for its love of supercars,” said Kelly MacDonald, Chief Marketing Office, GM Middle East. “We were the first market outside of North America to unveil the 2020 mid-engine configuration Corvette and are proud to once again bring the region’s loyal Corvette fans the latest and greatest in performance from Chevrolet.” Corvette Racing’s Jordan Taylor and Antonio Garcia drove coupe and convertible No. 3 Corvette Stingray IMSA GTLM Championship Editions across Belle Isle’s MacArthur Bridge and onto the track. Teammate Nick Tandy led on track in a Corvette Stingray convertible, the official pace car of the 2021 Detroit Grand Prix. Corvette Racing driver Tommy Milner followed the group in the No. 4 Corvette C8.R race car.

“Racing has been part of the Corvette’s DNA from nearly the beginning,” said Laura Klauser, General Motors Sports Car Program manager. “Both the Corvette Stingray and C8.R have seen tremendous success capitalizing on the benefits of a mid-engine platform – and we’re just getting started.” Corvette Racing shined during IMSA’s 2020 sports car championship series, capturing six victories and seven pole positions, and setting the fastest class race laps in six events. During the 2020 series, Chevrolet won the GT Manufacturers title – its 13th since 2001. Taylor, Garcia and the No. 3 Corvette C8.R crew won the GTLM Drivers and Team championships.

IMSA GTLM Championship Edition
The 2022 Corvette Stingray IMSA GTLM Championship Edition is based on the 3LT trim with Z51 Performance Package. Each car includes Corvette Racing-themed graphics packages. Accelerate Yellow No. 3 editions feature gray graphics and Hypersonic Gray No. 4 editions feature yellow accents.

Additional exterior content (varies by market):

  • High-wing spoiler in Carbon Flash
  • Yellow brake calipers
  • Black Trident design wheels, with the “Jake” logo on the center caps, and black lug nuts
  • Exterior mirrors in Carbon Flash
  • Black side rockers
  • Splash guards

Inside, the Special Edition features a Strike Yellow and Sky Cool Gray cabin that mimics the exterior yellow and gray racing theme, with standard GT2 seats (Competition Sport seats are available), along with yellow seat belts and a C8.R Special Edition numbered plaque. Each car comes with a custom-fitted indoor car cover rendered to the appearance of the No. 3 or No. 4 Corvette C8.R race car, per each Special Edition’s color and graphic scheme.

Corvette for 2022
In addition to the all-new IMSA GTLM Championship Edition, the 2022 Corvette Stingray lineup features three new exterior colors: Hypersonic Gray, Caffeine, and Amplify Orange Tintcoat. A new low-profile rear spoiler and the Z51 design front splitter will be offered on non-Z51 models. Corvette Stingray’s LT2 6.2L V-8 engine enters 2022 with an upgraded direct injection fuel system, improved engine calibration, and an enhanced Active Fuel Management range. It remains rated at 490 horsepower or 495 horsepower, with the available performance exhaust system. Driving through an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, a Z51-equipped model is capable of 0 – 100 kmph in 2.9 seconds.

The mid-engine Corvette Stingray is offered in coupe and convertible models in 1LT, 2LT, and 3LT trims, with the Z51 Performance Package available on all trims. Magnetic Ride Control is available with or without the Z51 Performance Package. Coupes include a removable roof panel that stores in the rear trunk, and convertibles include a power-retractable hardtop. Dual cargo compartments offer a total of 356.7 cubic litres of cargo volume, with a trunk large enough for two sets of golf clubs.

The 2022 Corvette Stingray visualizer is now live on Chevrolet.com and Bowling Green Assembly will begin the model year 2022 production in the late third quarter. The vehicle is set to arrive at the Middle East in the first quarter of 2022.

Bentley Unveils the New Flying Spur Hybrid

Published

on

Bentley Motors has announced the details of the company’s latest luxury model on its journey to electrification. The introduction of the new Flying Spur Hybrid builds on the success of the third generation Flying Spur, using a highly innovative third powertrain to deliver the most environmentally friendly Bentley to date.

The introduction of the Flying Spur Hybrid establishes a family of Bentley hybrids for the first time, emphasising Bentley’s commitment to its Beyond100 strategy to become an end-to-end carbon neutral organisation and the world’s leading sustainable luxury mobility company.

The latest addition to Bentley’s new hybrid range demonstrates that hybridisation does not compromise luxury or performance. With an unperceivable blend between the internal combustion engine and electric motor, refined serenity is on offer regardless of driving mode or style. The new powertrain combines a 2.9-litre V6 petrol engine with an advanced electric motor, delivering a total of 536 bhp (544 PS) and 750 Nm (553 lb.ft) of torque. The new Flying Spur becomes the most efficient Bentley ever, capable of covering over 700 km when fully fuelled.

With high power reserves, superior torque and quick throttle response, the latest hybrid model give little away to the Flying Spur V8 in acceleration, passing 60 mph from a standstill in 4.1 seconds.

Inside the cabin, the automatic Start-Stop switch has been replaced with a control for the three E Modes – EV Drive, Hybrid Mode and Hold Mode enabling the driver to manage the battery usage during a journey. EV Drive mode is engaged as soon as the car is switched on, and maximises the electric driving experience.

The combination of a highly efficient engine and advanced E-Motor delivers the same flexibility and practicality associated with the W12 and V8 powertrains on offer today, achieving a responsive, engaging and supremely refined experience. The new 2.9-litre V6 engine achieves 410 bhp (416 PS) and 550 NM (406 lb.ft) of torque up to 5650 rpm. The engine delivers over 150 bhp per litre, even higher than the Flying Spur V8. The advanced electronic motor is located between the transmission and the engine and provides up to 134 bhp (136 PS) and 400 Nm (295 lb.ft) of torque.

The E-motor is powered by a 14.1 kWh lithium-ion battery and can be charged to 100 per cent in as little as two and a half hours. The power electronics convert the energy stored from the high voltage battery to supply the E-Motor or supplement the existing 12v vehicle electrical infrastructure. The combined powertrain propels the Flying Spur Hybrid from 0-60 mph in 4.1 seconds and on to a top speed of 177 mph. Reduced CO2 values and lower fuel consumption are pending certification and will deliver the most environmentally focused powertrain of the range.

The interior of the Flying Spur Hybrid is a striking combination of the very latest integrated technology, beautiful materials and design prowess, now combined with the features required for a plug-in hybrid vehicle. A dedicated button allows control over the three E Modes – EV Drive, Hybrid Mode and Hold Mode. These give the driver the freedom to choose to either manually or automatically manage battery usage during a journey.

The EV DRIVE mode maximises the electric driving experience and is optimal for in-city driving. Hybrid mode maximises vehicle efficiency and thus is best suited for longer journeys. Finally, Hold Mode balances engine and electric power to hold a high voltage battery charge for later use conserving electric energy. In addition to the standard equipment supplied, customers, can also choose a Bentley branded wall box available as a no-cost option, providing an attractive solution housing the charging unit and storing the charge cables neatly.

The Flying Spur Hybrid has seven Bentley paint colours to choose from as standard. The Blackline Specification offers a contemporary alternative to exterior bright ware including a black version of the optional illuminated electrically deployed Flying B radiator mascot, and for a more contemporary exterior aesthetic. A ‘Hybrid’ badge mounted on the lower front fender, quad oval tailpipes at the rear of the vehicle and a covered universal charging point on the left-hand rear fender denote the new model.

The interior of the Flying Spur Hybrid showcases Bentley’s expertise in creating a modern cabin of unrivalled luxury and innovation. Stylish and unique, the interior features supremely comfortable seats in five hide colours, with Bentley’s ‘Wing’ theme across the lower console and fascia. All Flying Spurs are manufactured at Bentley’s home in Crewe – the world’s first carbon-neutral factory for luxury car production. Customer orders can be taken from summer onwards, and the first customer deliveries are due before the end of 2021.

Hyundai Shows Off the First Images of Elantra N

Published

on

Hyundai Motor Company today revealed the first glimpse of Elantra N, the latest addition to its high-performance N range. This is Hyundai Motors’ sixth N brand model, following the unveiling of Kona N in April this year. Elantra N is the high-performance variant of the all-new Elantra model launched in April 2020, distinguishable by its ‘Parametric Dynamics’ design theme that imparts a look of sophisticated sportiness. Hyundai N designers took cues from the curves and lines of a sculpture to give the car a powerful and athletic stance.

“Elantra N is a high-performance sedan that reveals the sportier side of our exceptional all-new Elantra through exciting N brand enhancements,” said Till Wartenberg, Vice President of N brand Management & Motorsport sub-division at Hyundai Motor Company. “We designed it to be a race-proven sportscar with dynamic driving capabilities and style that performance enthusiasts love. I can’t wait to unveil Elantra N, an outstanding addition to the N brand lineup that offers pulse-pounding performance. Stay tuned for the digital world premiere.”

Elantra N’s racecar look can be seen in the bright red N dedicated side sills that not only help boost performance by better channeling airflow, but also create the effect of a lowered chassis. Complimenting the overall exterior styling is a distinctive N-exclusive rear spoiler that counteracts lift by preventing airflow from tumbling over the rear edge, which increases driving stability at high speeds. Additionally, the bold black trim beneath the rear bumper and its dual single exhaust create a different look from the standard model, further underlining the Elantra N’s sporty credentials.

With the introduction of Elantra N, Hyundai Motor now offers a wider range of Elantra models—including the all-new standard Elantra and Elantra Hybrid—for discerning customers to choose. Hyundai Motor will reveal more details about Elantra N in the coming weeks.
