Samsung Intros the new Galaxy Watch4, Galaxy Watch4 Classic, and the Galaxy Buds2

Published

on

Samsung Electronics has announced the Galaxy Watch4 and Galaxy Watch4 Classic — marking a new era for smartwatch innovation. They are the first smartwatches to feature the new Wear OS Powered by Samsung, built jointly with Google, and are equipped with One UI Watch, Samsung’s most intuitive user interface yet. The Galaxy Watch4 series is bolstered with advanced hardware performance and delivers a more seamless and connected user experience than ever before. These new devices have been completely redesigned to provide consumers with the best tools to manage their wellness.

“We have seen an incredible amount of growth for the Galaxy Watch series as consumers have discovered the health benefits and convenience of wearables,” said Dr. TM Roh, President and Head of Mobile Communications Business, Samsung Electronics. “We understand the path to wellness is different for everyone, so we built a robust suite of health and wellness features to give people a deeper and more helpful understanding of their overall fitness.”

Galaxy Watch4 is equipped with Samsung’s groundbreaking BioActive Sensor, which boasts a smaller and more compact design that doesn’t detract from measurement accuracy. This new 3-in-1 sensor uses a single chip to precisely run three powerful health sensors — Optical Heart Rate, Electrical Heart and Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis — so users can monitor their blood pressure, detect an AFib irregular heartbeat, measure their blood oxygen level, and, for the first time, calculate their body composition.

The all-new Body Composition measurement tool gives users a deeper understanding of their general health and fitness, with key measurements like skeletal muscle, basal metabolic rate, body water, and body fat percentage. Now, you can easily check your body composition from your wrist with just two fingers. In about 15 seconds, your watch’s sensor will capture 2,400 data points.

These smartwatches come packed with an array of wellness features to track your daily activities and stay motivated to be your best. Choose from a wide range of guided workouts, enjoy Group Challenges with your friends and family, or set up a home gym by connecting your Galaxy Watch4 to your compatible Samsung Smart TV, where calorie counts and heart rate metrics appear on screen for easier tracking.

And when you’re ready to rest, the Galaxy Watch4 series offers our most complete picture of your sleep patterns yet, with greater detail than before. Your compatible smartphone detects the sounds of your snores, while your smartwatch measures your blood oxygen level when you sleep. Together with advanced Sleep Scores, you can learn more about your sleep patterns to get better rest.

“Simplicity, ease, and efficiency are hallmarks of the Galaxy smartwatch platform—and with Samsung’s brand-new One UI Watch, and Wear OS Powered by Samsung, we’ve made the smartwatch and Galaxy experience even more seamless. With One UI Watch, compatible apps are automatically installed on your watch when downloaded on your phone, and your important settings – like do not disturb hours and blocked callers – are synced instantly,” the company said.

Auto Switch ensures your earbuds can toggle audio between your phone and watch, depending on usage. You can also effortlessly control your mobile experience with Bixby voice, bezel, and Gesture Controls. Move your forearm up and down twice to receive calls and rotate your wrist twice to reject them — or to dismiss notifications and alarms.

Galaxy Watch4 series is also the first generation of smartwatches to feature Wear OS Powered by Samsung —a new platform that elevates every aspect of the smartwatch experience. Built by Samsung and Google, this cutting-edge platform lets you tap into an expansive ecosystem right from your wrist – with popular Google apps like Google Maps, and beloved Galaxy services11, like Samsung Pay, SmartThings, and Bixby.

The new platform also includes support for leading third-party apps12, like adidas Running, Calm, Strava, and Spotify available from Google Play. Along with our advanced hardware and even more intuitive user interface, you can enjoy smooth and convenient integrated experiences with your Galaxy Watch4. For example, our enhanced built-in compass works in tandem with Google Maps to make it easy to explore a new area.

This incredible experience is backed by serious hardware upgrades including the enhanced processor, richer displays, and expanded memory. Galaxy Watch4 series boasts the first 5nm processor in a Galaxy Watch – with 20% faster CPU and 50% more RAM, and a GPU 10 times faster than the previous generation. That means scrolling and multitasking on Galaxy Watch4 series is smooth and effortless.”We also upped the resolution on the display, up to 450 x 450 pixels, so visuals are crisper and more distinctive. And with an impressive 16GB of memory, you’ll have enough storage to download and store your favorite apps, music, and photos – with the confidence they’re secure, thanks to Samsung’s Knox security platform,” the company said.

Samsung’ leadership in eSIM technology enables users to enjoy the freedom of being able to leave their phone behind, knowing their smartwatch will automatically sync up and fill the gap. “We also know a reliable battery is essential to smartwatch. You can have up to 40 hours of battery life, more than enough to keep a charge on an overnight camping trip – even as it supports the faster processor, higher resolution display, expanded memory and more sophisticated health features. And when you need more juice quickly, 30 minutes of charging provides up to 10 hours of battery,” the company said.

Joining the Galaxy Z Series are Galaxy Buds2 – designed for a comfortable fit made to be worn all day, and provide premium sound quality so you can immerse yourself at the moment, wherever you are. As one of the latest additions to the Galaxy Buds lineup, Galaxy Buds2 joins the Galaxy Buds Live and Galaxy Buds Pro, providing more choices to consumers to fit their needs. As a part of the Galaxy ecosystem, Galaxy Buds2 makes the perfect companion to your Galaxy smartphone, tablet, or smartwatch.

Whether you use your Galaxy Buds2 to listen to music or dial into a conference call, you’ve got all the features you need to immerse yourself in your own world. The dynamic two-way speakers deliver crisp, clear high notes and deep bass, while Active Noise Cancellation helps block out unwanted noise.

If you need to hear your surroundings, simply tune back in with three adjustable ambient sound levels. And now your voice will be clearer on calls, thanks to a new, machine learning-based solution that filters out a variety of distracting background noises.

Galaxy Buds2 is Samsung’s smallest and lightest earbuds yet boasting an iconic curved shape. For a more perfect fit, we’ve developed the ‘Earbud fit test’ in the Galaxy Wearable app. Choose from four contemporary colors —graphite, white, olive, and lavender—to show off your personal style, and complete the package with third-party accessory cases.

HUAWEI Intros Open-Ear FreeArc Earbuds

Published

on

Huawei has launched its latest audio innovation, the HUAWEI FreeArc, further solidifying its leadership in the fast-growing open-ear wearables segment. Designed for comfort and situational awareness, the FreeArc offers a secure, pressure-free fit without blocking the ear canal—catering to users who demand high-quality audio without sacrificing awareness of their surroundings.

Open-ear earbuds, which sit outside the ear rather than inside it, have surged in popularity due to their comfort and safety benefits, particularly for fitness enthusiasts, commuters, and professionals. According to Canalys, global shipments of open-ear headphones reached nearly 8 million units in Q3 2024—a staggering fourfold increase from the same period last year.

Huawei has been at the forefront of this shift. The company ranked first in global wearable shipments for the first three quarters of 2024 (IDC), backed by its extensive audio R&D network—including seven research centers, over 1,000 audio specialists, and more than 250 patents. Its first open-ear model, the HUAWEI FreeClip, has already surpassed 2 million units shipped worldwide, demonstrating strong consumer demand for innovative wearable audio solutions.

Huawei’s journey in open-ear wearables began in 2019 with its collaboration with Gentle Monster on HUAWEI Eyewear, blending fashion with cutting-edge audio technology. The FreeClip, launched later, marked Huawei’s entry into the Open Wireless Stereo (OWS) category, featuring a flexible C-bridge design for a lightweight, breathable fit.

Now, the FreeArc takes this legacy further as Huawei’s first open-ear earbuds with earhooks. Built with a nickel-titanium alloy frame, the new model enhances stability and adaptability for a wider range of ear shapes while retaining the signature C-bridge comfort. Engineered for active lifestyles, the FreeArc boasts an IP57 rating for dust and water resistance, making it ideal for workouts, travel, and daily commutes. Key enhancements include:

  1. High-sensitivity drivers for crisp, balanced sound
  2. Dual-Resonator Antenna for stronger connectivity
  3. Wind-resistant microphones for clearer calls in outdoor environments

With the FreeArc, Huawei continues to refine its open-ear offerings, combining ergonomic design with practical durability.

Apple’s Beats Unveils Powerbeats Pro 2 with Heart-Rate Monitoring

Published

on

Apple Inc.’s Beats division has unveiled the long-awaited Powerbeats Pro 2, which features noise cancellation, a heart-rate monitor, and a revamped design aimed at athletes. This new model incorporates capabilities seen in Apple’s AirPods, such as transparency mode for better external noise awareness and the H2 chip for enhanced sound quality. Additionally, it offers improved spatial audio for a 3D listening experience and comes with a smaller, wireless charging case.

The heart-rate monitor is a notable first for Apple-designed earbuds, expanding the company’s health-related features, and utilizes technology found in the Apple Watch. Despite a slow holiday season for Apple’s wearables business—with sales in the division falling nearly 2% to about $11.8 billion—the introduction of these new earbuds is anticipated to drive interest and sales.

Priced at $250, the same as the previous model, the new Powerbeats Pro 2 will be available in black, orange, purple, and a color called quicksand. This price point matches the AirPods Pro 2, although the Powerbeats may be more appealing to athletes due to their secure ear hooks.

Apple Vice President Oliver Schusser, who oversees Beats as well as the company’s sports, TV+, and music initiatives, hailed the new Powerbeats as “the most impressive product in Beats’ history.” Acquired by Apple in 2014 for $3 billion, Beats remains the company’s largest acquisition to date.

The heart-rate monitor will be compatible with fitness apps like Peloton, Nike Run Club, Ladder, and Slopes, with data integration into the Apple Health app. The earbuds will also be compatible with Android devices. Apple is reportedly working on AirPods with heart-rate monitoring, though they are still many months away from release.

In terms of battery life, the Powerbeats Pro 2 holds an advantage over AirPods, with 10 hours of usage on their own and 45 hours with the charging case, compared to six hours for AirPods alone and up to 30 hours with the case. However, AirPods continue to offer unique features, such as a new hearing aid functionality.
