Review of the LG PuriCare Wearable Air Purifier (2nd Gen) in the UAE
The first generation of LG’s PuriCare Wearable Air Purifier was launched in the UAE a year ago and the company is now out with the second generation of the same device. While the first generation of the PuriCare Wearable Air Purifier was really good, it did have some nagging issues. These included muffled voice while trying to speak to people with the mask on, a bit of a clunky design, and being a bit heavy when wearing it for an extended period of time.
IMPROVEMENTS OVER GEN 1
LG seems to have solved the “muffled voice” issue this time around since the 2nd Gen wearable air purifier now features a voice amplification feature. The new 2nd Gen air purifier also is more comfortable to wear with a lightweight design. The new iteration of the LG PuriCare Wearable Air Purifier now comes packed with a fully automatic fan airflow control system that increases breathing comfort.
It also uses two H13 HEPA filters, the same as those found in premium air purifiers for the home, to ensure the air the user breathes is as clean as healthy as possible. And since the air purifier comes with a built-in microphone and external speaker employing VoiceON technology, you no longer have to pull down the mask or raise your voice to carry on a conversation. VoiceON technology automatically recognises when you are talking and amplifies your voice through the built-in speaker so listeners don’t have to strain or lean in to hear every word you speak.
While the LG PuriCare Wearable Air Purifier Gen 2 uses the same H13 HEPA Filters as the first generation (AP300AWFA), the Inner Covers and the washable Face Guard are different from the ones used in the first generation. The air purifier itself is available in two colours – Creamy White (AP551AWFA) and Ocean Black (AP551ABFA). The one we received for this review was the Creamy White variant.
INSIDE THE BOX
Inside the box, you get the LG PuriCare Wearable Air Purifier, two H13 Grade HEPA filters, one Face Guard, a pack of Inner Covers (15 pieces), and an Ear Strap. You also get a carry pouch, the warranty card, a user manual, a USB Type C cable for charging the air purifier, and a plastic pack that also doubles up as a stand while you charge the air purifier.
DESIGN
The second generation of the LG Wearable Air Filter has undergone a slight redesign. The replaceable cloth filter is now under the silicone seal instead of inside. The seal also uses more magnets to secure it in place, making it a lot easier to install since you can just snap it in place.
The dual HEPA filters are also installed from the back, leaving the front a smooth curve. Another positive change is that the straps are now adjustable — you simply pull to tighten. It’s also lighter — 94g versus the 126g of the first model. On the front, on both the left and right edges, you will find the ear straps. The bottom right corner is where the speaker is situated.
On the air purifier, there is also a Bluetooth indicator light, which turns on when paired with a Bluetooth device. There is a power button next to it, which when pressed for 2 seconds, starts and stops operation. To use the voice unit, you need to press the power button when the unit is turned on. To activate Bluetooth, you need to press the power button for seven seconds.
To turn the air purifier completely off, press the power button for 10 seconds. There is a battery indicator light built around the charging port which turns on when the unit is being charged and it also shows the battery level when the unit is being operated. If the battery level indicator is green, it means you have over 60% battery life. If the LED is orange, you have a battery life between 15% and 60%. And if the LED is red and blinking, it means the battery level is lower than 15% and the unit needs recharging.
APP FOR THE AIR PURIFIER
The LG PuriCare Wearable Air Purifier is Bluetooth enabled, which means you can also connect it to the LG PuriCare Wearable app, which is available for both iOS and Android devices.
Once connected, the app allows you to adjust VoiceON volume and airflow (Auto/Low/Medium/High), see respiratory data history and reports, manage filters duration and replacement cycle, check real-time battery information, turn the unit ON/OFF and perform firmware updates.
USE AND COMFORT LEVEL
LG says that the PuriCare Wearable Air Purifier is also the first mask on the market that features an auto-sanitizing and charging UV Case that helps maintain hygiene between uses.
The case, however, is sold separately and is equipped with UV-C lights that kill 99.9% of bacteria and harmful germs that may remain on the mask.
During our review period, we found the LG PuriCare Wearable Air Purifier to be very light and easy to use, throughout the day. Wearing comfort was better than Gen 1 and we did not find any difficulties speaking with the air purifier on. The device can be worn comfortably for up to 8 hours and it recharges the 1000mAh battery completely in about two hours.
Installing and replacing the inner cover and the HEPA filters is also quite intuitive. The app does offer a wide range of functionalities that makes using the LG PuriCare Wearable Air Purifier, a walk in the park.
Since the device comes with dual fans and a patented respiratory sensor, it allows you to take in clean and filtered air.
The Respiratory Sensor meanwhile detects the cycle and volume of your breath and adjusts the dual three-speed fans accordingly. The fans automatically speed up to assist air intake and slow down to reduce resistance when exhaling to make breathing effortless.
For a price of AED 799, LG PuriCare Wearable Air Purifier (Gen 2) is a fantastic improvement over its predecessor. The device is for you if you are looking for maximum convenience and comfort without compromising on style and clean air.

Review: HomePure Zayn Air Purifier
The HomePure Zayn Air Purifier claims to remove 99.94% of viral particles from indoor air. The air purifier combines a prefilter and patented HPP+ Electrostatic Film to eliminate particles as small as 0.1 microns. The device also comes with an enhanced antiviral HPP+ filter cartridge. This antiviral mesh filter houses a tri-layer system that removes 99.94% of viruses.
Inside the box, you get the Zayn Air Purifier, the quick start guide, the warranty info, a plastic stand, and the power adapter with multiple plug options. The Zayn comes packed with Ultraviolet light and an Ultra-Plasma Ion Filter to kill airborne viruses and bacteria. There is also an Activated Carbon Filter, which eliminates unpleasant odours, gasses, and vapours.
The device also comes with built-in air quality sensors, an indicator to alert users when the filter needs changing, child-safe lock features, and a night mode that dims lights for worry-free sleep. In addition, the device is designed for easy maintenance – you can simply wipe it clean whenever you change the filter.
Setting up the device is quite simple. The top and bottom parts of the HomePure Zayn get magnetically attached. Once it is detached, you will be able to replace the HPP+ filter cartridge. The body of the device is made of plastic and you will find all the buttons to operate it on the top of the device.
These touch-sensitive buttons include ion, UV, fan speed level, child lock, night mode, and timer. There is also an HPP+ Filter Change Indicator on the top. In the center of the button panel is the power button.
The air purifier has been certified by the European Centre for Allergy Research Foundation (ECARF) and it covers an indoor area of up to 36 sqm. The company claims that the Zayn can reduce viral particles including the novel coronavirus. It should be noted that when used properly, air purifiers and HVAC filters can help reduce airborne contaminants including viruses in a building or small space. However, by itself, air cleaning or filtration is not enough to protect people from COVID-19.
Once the device is switched on, the LED indicator near the vents will light up in orange or green to indicate the quality of air in the surrounding. We were able to go from orange to green in about 1 hour of operating the device. While reviewing the device, we closed the windows of the room where Zayn was tested in.
For a price of $770, the HomePure Zayn is a good device, though there is no support for a smartphone app, like many air purifiers out there in the market. However, if you are in the market for an air purifier that comes with an ion filter, HPP+ filter, and a UV light built-in, you should definitely check out the HomePure Zayn.
