Review: ECS Liva Q1L Mini PC

Published

on

A year ago, we reviewed the Elitegroup Computer Systems (ECS)  Liva Q1D Mini PC. The company recently sent us the Liva Q1L Mini PC for review, which looks very similar to the Q1D, albeit with a few changes here and there. Just like the ECS LIVA Q1D, the Q1L is also palm sized and is also suitable for applications such as digital signage, thin-client or Terminal applications in versatile use-cases.

And since the LIVA Q1L can be VESA mounted behind a compatible monitor, you can also used it for indoor applications in facilities such as schools or libraries, healthcare, hospitality, business, and retail. The Mini PC itself is available with a choice of Intel Pentium/Celeron processors, and a choice of 32GB or 64GB eMMC storage. eMMC storage means that the storage chip is embedded or soldered directly onto the mini PC’s motherboard.

Under the hood, our review unit came with Intel’s Pentium N4200 quad-core SoC, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of EMMC storage. The N4200 processor from Intel meanwhile runs at 1.1-2.5 GHz (Single Core Burst, Multi-Core Burst max 2.4 GHz) and is based on the Apollo Lake platform.

Similar to the Braswell predecessor, the chip is manufactured in a 14 nm process (P1273) with FinFETs. Besides four CPU cores, the chip also includes a DirectX 12 capable GPU as well as a DDR3L/LPDDR3/LPDDR4 memory controller (dual-channel, up to 1866/2400 MHz).

You also get a MicroSD slot to expand the internal storage capacity. You can insert MicroSD cards with storage capacities of up to 128GB. The LIVA Q1 series also supports connectivity standards such as Bluetooth 4.1 and 802.11ac. The Mini PC also features Intel HD Graphics 500/505 that offers support for 4K videos playback. The LIVA Q1 series has also been designed with a cooling fan inside it, to keep the system cool and stabilised.

In terms of connectivity, you get lots of choices such as two USB 3.1 Gen1, one USB 2.0, 1 HDMI, and two Gigabit LAN ports. The Dual LAN option gives you a backup solution, should your primary network require maintenance, go down due to a cyber-attack, or encounter software or hardware problems.

Alternatively, if you have an overloaded network, adding a second LAN can help ease the load. The device also supports dual band Wi-Fi such as 2.4GHz and 5GHz signals. The ECS LIVA Q1L Mini PC is available with and without the OS – our review unit was already configured with Windows 10 as the OS.

Setting up the device was a walk in the park. Connect the power adapter, plugin the HDMI cable and you are good to go. The ECS LIVA Q1L Mini PC is so small that you will barely notice it when placed on your work desk. The device is powerful enough to run all day to day computing apps including internet browsing and using apps such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

The ECS LIVA Q1L Mini PC is available at a price of $350 (AED 1300) with Windows 10 OS. For that price point you are getting a palm sized mini PC that can power your daily computing needs, does not require lots of desk space, and is very light and portable.

If you are on the market for a PC that is budget-friendly and can handle most day to day computing jobs, the ECS LIVA Q1L Mini PC is definitely something you should consider.

Review of the Amazfit GTR 3 Smartwatch in UAE

Published

on

Huami’s new Amazfit GTR 3 is a follow-up to its popular GTR 2 smartwatch. The new GTR 3 offers lots of bells and whistles without burning a hole in your pocket. The smartwatch comes packed in very modest packaging, which includes the watch itself, along with the charger, and a quick start guide.

The watch itself is quite sleek and lightweight – the company has used durable aircraft-grade aluminum alloy to build the device. The watch comes with a 1.39-inch AMOLED display that offers a pixel density of 326-PPI. The display itself is of very good quality and it makes everything look really nice on the watch face – whether it is viewing the stats or shuffling through menu options.

The Amazfit GTR 3 boasts a 66% screen-to-body ratio, and is visible even under bright sunlight, thanks to the 1000 nits of brightness. To personalise the watch, you can choose from over 100 watch faces, including 15 animated watch faces, and 8 editable watch faces.

Though the Amazfit GTR 3 runs on its own operating system called Zepp OS, it is compatible with both Android and iOS devices. In order to connect and set up the smartwatch, you will need to install the Zapp app onto your smartphone. Next, log into your Zepp account or create a new one if you don’t already have one.

Once that is done, the app will ask you to complete your profile. After that, go to the “Profile” tab on the Zepp app, and click “Add” in the “My devices” section. The app will then ask to scan the QR code displayed on the GTR 3 and then proceed to connect and set it up.

The overall design of the Amazfit GTR 3 is quite top-notch. On the right side of the watchcase, you get a rotatable crown, which when pressed, brings up the main menu screen. You can then rotate the crown to shuffle through the menu options on the watch’s interface. There is also a button next to the crown, which when pressed, brings up the workout menu.

There are over 150+ sports modes that include multiple activities within running and walking, cycling, swimming, outdoor workouts, indoor sports, dance, combat sports, ball sports, winter sports, water sports, and more. The Amazfit GTR 3 also comes with a water-resistance grade of 5 ATM – so you can go for a swim without any worry.

The Amazfit GTR 3 offers a treasure trove of health tracking features. I was particularly impressed by the “One-tap Measuring” feature, which tests four health metrics in one tap. In 45 seconds, you can measure your heart rate, blood oxygen saturation, stress level, and breathing rate. The watch also offers 24-hour monitoring of blood-oxygen levels.

In addition, you also get all-day heart rate monitoring, even when you go for a swim. The GTR 3 alerts you for abnormally high or low heart rates and tracks heart rate zones to optimise your workouts. The watch can also track and log PAI health assessments. PAI (Personal Activity Intelligence) is a science-backed health score that measures the heart health impact of physical activity.

What’s more, you also get in-depth monitoring of sleep and sleep breathing quality metrics. The Amazfit GTR 3 also tracks stress levels and female cycles, so you are in control of your health stats. The female cycle tracking feature can predict upcoming menstrual and fertile periods, too.

For outdoor activities, the Amazfit GTR 3 can track your route effectively since it supports GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, BDS, and QZSS satellite navigation systems. It also comes with online and offline voice assistants powered by Alexa and an Offline Voice Assistant.

For a price of AED 659, the Amazfit GTR 3 comes across as an amazing (pun unintended) value for money smartwatch that also doubles up as a fitness tracker. The GTR 3 offers lots of features found on most flagship smartwatches out there on the market, but at a very pocket-friendly price. The Amazfit GTR 3 thus walks away with the Gadget Voize Editors’ Choice award.

Published

on

Logitech has introduced the new Signature M650 wireless and Signature M650 for Business mouse, a comfortable and personalised mouse with two different sizes and a left-handed option, offering a better experience for more people. The wireless mouse is designed to upgrade any desk setup and improve the overall work experience with features like SmartWheel scrolling, nearly silent clicks, and a contoured comfort design that enables faster, more comfortable work than ever before.

“There are more than a billion knowledge workers in the world, and around half of them don’t use a mouse or have an entry-level or corded mouse with limited functions,” said Art O’Gnimh, vice president of the mainstream business for creativity and productivity at Logitech. “The Signature M650 offers a true Logitech signature experience with simple productivity functions that make working all day easier and faster.”

Whether working on a document or browsing through a website, the Signature M650’s SmartWheel helps to deliver precision when needed and speed in an instant. The Signature M650 and larger size Signature M650 L also feature SilentTouch technology, reducing click noise by 90% compared to the Logitech M185 Mouse, ideal when clicking during a video call. Enjoy a strong wireless connection and a battery that lasts up to two years, giving you complete peace of mind.

With two sizes and a left-handed option, a contoured shape, a soft thumb area, and a rubber side grip, the Signature M650 inclusive design allows you to work comfortably for extended hours and gives you the ability to customize the side buttons to favorite shortcuts with Logitech Options+. The Signature M650, available in off-white, graphite, and rose, works with Windows, macOS, Linux, Chrome OS, ipadOS, and Android operating systems. Connect in an instant via Bluetooth Low Energy or Logi Bolt USB receiver.

Sustainable design considers environmental and social impacts from the moment raw materials are sourced right through to end-of-life. At Logitech, products are designed to deliver great user experiences and minimize environmental footprint, which is why a portion of the Signature M650’s plastic parts are made from post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic – 64% for the graphite, 26% for off white and 26% for rose.

The Signature M650 mice will be available in January 2022 on Logitech.com and at other global retailers. The suggested retail price for the Signature M650 and larger-sized Signature M650 L is $39.99.

Our researchers, engineers, and manufacturing teams have continued that long-standing tradition of handcrafted excellence by dedicating themselves to creating smaller, more powerful, and longer-lasting devices every single day. Evolv AI certainly leads the way in sound quality, but its ease of use is truly game-changing,” added Giscard.

Additional features of the Evolv AI product family include a 40% reduction in noise energy compared to our previous technology, additional refinement of Edge Mode, Fall Alert, and Voice Reminders at all technology tiers, Thrive usability enhancements, and TeleHear first and follow-up fit additions.
