Published

on

Acer is a brand known for quality products and one of its dependable products is the Aspire series of laptops.

The company recently announced the new Aspire 7 with the 10th Generation Intel Core i5 processor, and we got a chance to check it out.

The design of the laptop hasn’t changed much it follows the design cue of the company’s earlier models. What however has changed is its specs. The new Aspire 7 comes with the 10th Gen Intel Core i5 processor, coupled with NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX 1650 for all the graphics power you would need.

The laptop also comes with 8GB of DDR4 memory and 512GB of M.2 PCIe SSD for internal storage. The Aspire 7 has been built for both work and play. So, it does not matter whether you are a prosumer, designer, hobbyist, gamer, or content creator, the Acer Aspire 7 will appeal to you.

Inside the box, you get some paperwork and a 13W charger. The body of the laptop is made using plastic, with a pretty strong chassis. The overall design of the Aspire 7 is business-centric. The device overall weighs around 2.15-kgs and has a profile of about 23mm.

Upon opening up the lid, you come face to face with a 15.6-inch Full HD IPS matte with a screen-to-body ratio of 81.61%, which is fantastic. The top and bottom bezels are a bit thick. However, you will also find an HD Web camera on the top bezel, which will be of use in case of a “work from home” scenario.

The display also supports Acer’s Color Intelligence and ExaColor technologies for a better viewing experience. You also get support for the Acer TrueHarmony technology for better bass performance. Whether you are watching a movie or playing a game, it makes a lot of difference.

The keyboard is backlit with nice spacing between keys and the key travel being up to mark. There is also a NumPad section and small “Up” and “Down” Arrow keys. The touchpad meanwhile is of a decent size and has a glass surface, You will also find an embedded fingerprint reader in there.

In terms of I/O ports, you get a good selection. On the left edge, you will find the Kensington lock slot, a LAN port, an HDMI port, a USB Type-C 3.2 (Gen. 1) port, and two USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) ports. On the right edge, you will find the power plug, and one USB Type-A 2.0 port.

Performance on the Aspire 7 was really good – whether it was using productivity apps, watching a movie, or playing a game, the Acer Aspire 7 was able to handle it all, without any problem. In our battery tests, the Aspire 7’s 50Wh battery lasted almost 11 hours of battery life on a single charge.

While the Acer Aspire 7 is not a gaming laptop, it stood its ground when it came to intensive benchmarks. The battery life is good, the overall specs are brilliant, and the display and audio are excellent. If you are on the market for a dependable laptop that can be used for both work and play, the Acer Aspire 7 might fit your bill.

KIOXIA EXCERIA PLUS 128GB microSDXC Card Review: Solid Performance and Durability

Published

on

The KIOXIA EXCERIA PLUS microSDXC Memory Card in the 128GB capacity is designed to offer a compelling blend of performance, storage capacity, and affordability for a diverse range of users. Building on KIOXIA’s established reputation in the storage industry, the EXCERIA PLUS line is positioned as an enhancement over their standard EXCERIA series, delivering improved speeds suitable for more demanding applications.

Specifications
The KIOXIA EXCERIA PLUS microSDXC 128GB card adheres to the microSDXC standard and utilises the UHS-I interface. The card is rated as Speed Class 10, UHS Speed Class U3, Video Speed Class V30, and Application Performance Class A1. Its maximum read speed is advertised as up to 100 MB/s, while the maximum write speed is around 65 MB/s for the 128GB variant. In terms of durability, the card is designed to be waterproof (IPX7), shockproof, X-ray proof, temperature resistant (from -25°C to +85°C), ESD immune, and includes an internal fuse for overheating/ignition prevention. The card also comes with a 5-year limited warranty.

Performance
The KIOXIA EXCERIA PLUS 128GB card provides a good balance of speed and capacity for various applications. For 4K video recording, the V30 rating ensures reliable performance at typical bitrates, allowing for extended recording sessions without write speed limitations. It also performs well for Full HD video recording and high-resolution burst photography, offering sufficient storage for large files and sustained write speeds for continuous shooting.

In gaming, particularly with the Nintendo Switch, the UHS-I interface provides adequate speed for game loading and playing, and the 128GB capacity offers substantial storage for digital game libraries. When used for Android applications, the A1 rating offers acceptable loading times and responsiveness for many apps, although it won’t match the speed of internal storage.

It’s important to remember that actual performance can vary depending on the host device, benchmarking software, and other factors. We used tools such as CrystalDiskMark and Blackmagic Disk Speed Test to test the card’s performance. In our tests, we achieved sequential read speeds pf around 90MB/s and sequential write speeds of around 60MB/s. In a simulated real-world file transfer test, writing a 10GB video file took approximately 3 minutes, while reading the same file took around 1 minute and 40 seconds.

Verdict
The KIOXIA EXCERIA PLUS microSDXC Memory Card 128GB stands out as a reliable and versatile storage solution for a wide range of devices. It effectively balances capacity and performance, with the U3/V30 ratings ensuring dependable 4K video recording and the A1 rating offering satisfactory performance for Android applications. The robust design and the trusted KIOXIA brand further enhance its appeal, backed by a 5-year warranty.

While the write speeds aren’t the absolute top-tier, they are more than adequate for the majority of intended uses. Overall, the KIOXIA EXCERIA PLUS 128GB microSDXC card is a compelling choice in its category, providing a dependable and well-rounded storage solution for capturing memories, expanding device storage, and running applications efficiently on the go.
