Review of the Infiniti QX55 (2022) in the UAE
The new INFINITI QX55 is the successor to the brand’s iconic FX series. A lot’s going on in the premium crossover coupe’s new avatar. It comes complete with a heads-up display, digital piano key taillights, origami-fold-patterned grille, standard 20-inch alloy wheels, Intelligent All-Wheel Drive, brilliant tech, and complete safety features.
It also features a daring roofline, with the front flanked by standard LED headlights. The Infiniti QX55 is powered by a 2-liter variable-compression turbocharged four-cylinder engine that offers 268 horsepower and 380Nm torque. This is further paired with the continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) and standard all-wheel drive.
The QX55 is essentially the coupe version of the QX50. Overall, the Infiniti QX55 looks gorgeous for a crossover coupe. On the front, we have the wavy LED lights that take the overall looks of the QX55 to a whole new level. On the side view, it has really smooth bodylines. It’s also got some really cool tail-lights with individual LEDs to bring in an “oomph” factor.
The cabin of the QX55 screams comfort and luxury. For long drives across the UAE, the cabin space is ideal, creating personal spaces as much for the driver and for the passengers. Base models come standard with faux-leather upholstery, while genuine leather and semi-aniline leather are also offered as options. Black-colored, open-pore wood trim looks good in the QX55.
The vehicle also offers some decent cargo space, which with folded second-row seats makes for 54.1 cubic feet of cargo space. You can fit around 18 large suitcases, which is enough for a small family. When it comes to technology, this thing is filled to the brim with it. The QX55 features the INFINITI InTouch that keeps you up to date, with dual touchscreens connected to your smartphone so you can sync your contact, media, and calendars.
In addition, you get Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which are included as standard features. You also get a great audio experience listening to your favourite tracks while on a long drive, since the QX55 comes packed with Bose speakers, with a dual-screen infotainment system. Now this includes the main 8-inch and a lower 7-inch high-resolution screen.
Additional safety features within the car include predictive forward collision warning, lane departure warning and prevention system, forward emergency braking with pedestrian detection to blind-spot warning and intervention, and backup collision intervention.
We were quite impressed by the overall ride quality – it is a very smooth crossover, with perky turbo power, and a very quiet cabin. The Infiniti QX55 is also quite quick when it comes to the pickup and we clocked around 7 seconds to get from 0 to 100kmph. In tight corners and roundabouts, the QX55 offers a comfortable ride.
This is achieved through Infiniti’s Body Motion Control feature, which uses a hydraulic fluid in the suspension to reduce weight transfer and smooth out bumps on the road. In terms of fuel economy, the Infiniti QX55 offers 11.9 km/l, which is good for a luxury crossover coupe.
The only thing that sort of let me down is the poor quality of graphics used in the infotainment systems and the built-in navigation. In addition, Infiniti has also used low-resolution cameras for luxury vehicles. However, having said that, if you are on the market for a luxury crossover coupe that offers styling, practicality, horsepower, interior comfort, and a good starting price, you could consider the Infiniti QX55.
Price: AED 195,000 onwards
