Review: Motorola Edge 30 5G



The Motorola Edge 50 5G is the budget-friendly variation of the company’s Edge 30 Pro and the Edge 30 Ultra. The phone is being touted to be the slimmest 5G smartphone around at just 6.79mm in thickness. Coming in two different colour options such as Meteor Grey and Aurora Green, the Edge 30 5G also hits the sweet spot when it comes to the price point. It is available at a very pocket-friendly price of AED 1599.

In terms of build quality, the Edge 30 5G does not cut corners. It is sleek and the overall design is pretty good. On the front, you get a beautiful 6.5-inch FHD+ AMOLED display that offers a refresh rate of 144Hz. The display supports HDR10+ and meets the DCI-P3 cinematic standards for colour range.

The display also offers a resolution of 1080-by-2400 pixels, an aspect ratio of 20:9, and a pixel density of 405-PPI. The display is also protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. Overall, the phone weighs just 155 gms.

On the right edge, you get the volume rockers and the power button. On the top edge, you get a noise-cancelling microphone, while on the bottom edge, you get the dual SIM slot, a USB Type-C port, a noise-cancelling microphone, and the speaker grille. The Edge 30 5G comes with stereo speakers and the speaker at the top also doubles up as the earpiece.

The phone also supports Dolby Atmos – so sound quality is top-notch. Under the hood, the phone is powered by the Snapdragon 778G+ 5G Mobile Platform. Now, this is coupled with 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of storage.

On the front, above the display, you get a 32MP front shooter for selfies. On the rear is where you will find the triple camera setup. This includes a 50MP wide-angle main camera that offers an aperture of f/1.8, multi-directional PDAF, and OIS. There is also a 50MP ultrawide camera offering an aperture of f/2.2 and PDAF, and a 2MP depth camera offering an aperture of f/2.4.

The rear cameras can shoot videos at 4K@30fps, 1080p@30/60/120fps, and 720p@960fps, while the front camera can shoot videos at 4K@30fps and 1080p@30/120fps. You also get an under-display fingerprint scanner for added security.

The phone is powered by a 4020 mAh battery, which offered a battery life of little more than a day on a single charge. The phone also supports 33W fast charging, for which the charger is included in the box.

Inside the box, you get the Motorola Edge 30 Pro with the protective case preinstalled, a 33W fast charger, a USB Type-C cable, and the user guide. Right out of the box, the phone feels really good in the hands. The construction quality is pretty good, and though the company has used a mix of glass and plastic to build it up, it looks and feels quite nice.

The phone is available in three colour options – Meteor Grey, Supermoon Silver, and the one we have reviewed here the Aurora Green. The back of the device has got a nice matte finish to it, which I quite like. It’s also got IP52 splash-resistance, so it can handle a bit of water splash here and there, but will not survive proper immersion in water.

I like how Motorola has stuck to the stock Android user interface, which is very clean and intuitive to use. You won’t find any bloatware in there, so that’s one thing less to worry about.

The phone is powered by the Android 12 operating system and Motorola promises a couple of years worth of OS and security updates, which is great. One of the coolest features is Ready For, which allows you to easily connect wirelessly to a PC or TV of your choice.

The overall performance of the device is very good. Everything felt smooth-sailing and we did not encounter any sort of stutter or lag during our everyday usage. The cameras performed quite well too, whether it was shooting photos or videos. Even under low light conditions, images through the Night mode came out good.

The Motorola Edge 30 5G has its own charm in the already crowded mid-range smartphone space. The performance, though not as good as some of its rivals, is still pretty good for everyday usage. The cameras also are quite good, too. Overall, the Motorola Edge 30 5G is a very good mid-ranger, if you were on the market looking for a good and pocket-friendly smartphone.

Acer Launches its First Copilot+ PC, the Swift 14 AI Laptop



Acer today launched its first Copilot+ PC with the Swift 14 AI laptop, in collaboration with Microsoft and Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., ushering in a new AI era with brand new user experiences and AI capabilities on Windows 11. The Swift 14 AI has multiple device models, powered by Snapdragon X Elite and Snapdragon X Plus platforms, and both feature one of the world’s fastest NPUs for laptops to enable on-device AI processing. Users can streamline everyday tasks with smarter PC functions and tackle complex workloads more effectively.

Logitech Intros MeetUp 2 AI-Powered USB Conference Camera



Logitech has announced MeetUp 2, an AI-powered USB conference camera designed for bring-your-own-device (BYOD) and PC-based setups in huddle and small meeting rooms. This next-generation camera is the modern evolution of the iconic Logitech MeetUp, the bestselling conference camera in Logitech history that has sold more than one million units.

MeetUp 2 video bar brings AI-powered video and audio features, recycled plastics, and easy deployment to USB-based huddle rooms. “Instantly recognisable, MeetUp took video from the boardroom to the huddle space, making video collaboration achievable and affordable for everyone,” said Alistair Johnston, Head of Collaboration at Futuresource Consulting. Now, MeetUp 2 is poised to disrupt the market once again as the need for huddle room tech increases in companies embracing hybrid work models.

With the rise in huddle rooms comes the need for video conferencing tech that fits multiple scenarios, including those who prefer dedicated PC-based deployment or using their laptop in a BYOD setup. The plastic parts in MeetUp 2 contain 62% recycled plastic, the highest percentage of similar products in the market today. By choosing recycled plastic vs virgin plastic, MeetUp 2’s design saves 15.5 tCO2e saving per 10,000 units, allowing IT tech buyers to lower their company’s Scope 3 indirect emissions.

To encourage other brands to adopt DfS, Logitech openly shares its knowledge about how to integrate Next Life recycled plastic into its manufacturing process. MeetUp 2 is also packaged in paper sourced from FSC™-certified forests and other controlled sources. MeetUp 2, designed for up to six people in a small room, offers the flexibility of deploying in USB mode with an in-room computer device or in BYOD mode connected to a laptop.

In BYOD setups, users simply connect their laptops or mobile devices to the MeetUp 2 with the optional Logitech Active USB Cable to run video meetings from their platform of choice, while IT admins can monitor room status, deploy updates, and modify settings over ethernet or WiFi through Logitech Sync. When MeetUp 2 is not in a meeting, the display in the room can be used for digital signage, allowing custom content such as company logos or space usage instructions, through Logitech Sync and AppSpace.
