HUAWEI has announced its all-new Hi-Res Certificated TWS with long battery life and outstanding ANC, the HUAWEI FreeBuds 5i. The latest iteration to the HUAWEI FreeBuds series offers users high-resolution sound with 28h of Music Playback and 42dB Multi-Mode ANC. This is also topped off with a compact and comfortable design with dual-device connectivity and IP54 Water Resistance.

More importantly, the HUAWEI FreeBuds 5i is compatible with different operating systems, including devices running on Android and iOS. Consumers can get the HUAWEI FreeBuds 5i in UAE starting from the 13th of January, for a price of AED 329 from Huawei’s online platforms as well as certified retailers. The new HUAWEI FreeBuds 5i is available in Isle Blue, Nebula Black, and Ceramic White colours.

The HUAWEI FreeBuds 5i supports LDAC HD audio codec, and it is Hi-Res certified. Hi-Res Audio Wireless is officially defined as the capability to reproduce the full range of sound of recordings mastered from CD-quality music sources, and it is widely accepted and recognised among audio enthusiasts.

Moreover, the earbuds come equipped with a 10mm high-sensitivity dynamic driver unit and customised polymer composite diaphragm. HUAWEI FreeBuds 5i comes equipped with a dual adaptive EQ optimisation algorithm that detects both ear canal structure and wearing status and optimises the audio at all frequency ranges to account for such factors, ensuring a consistent listening experience. Visitors to Huawei’s offline stores will have the opportunity to experience the superior sound quality of the HUAWEI FreeBuds 5i.

HUAWEI’s newest earbuds provide EQ effects, which will allow consumers to choose the audio effects freely, such as by selecting Bass boost or Treble boost mode, so that each song can be tailored to users’ unique tastes, just like customising to get the most desirable listening experience that meets each individual’s taste.

The HUAWEI FreeBuds 5i provides a formidable 28 hours of battery life (with the charging case) and fast charging capabilities to sustain a staggering 7.5 hours of continuous audio playback, which can soar to 28 hours when used with the charging case. With a quick 15-minute boost in the charging case, users get an incredible 4 hours of listening power, catching up with their needs in a short period of time.

HUAWEI FreeBuds 5i adopts hybrid noise cancellation technology. Equipped with two MICs inside and outside the ear to detect environment noise outside, as well as extra noise in the ear canal, and accurately produce reverse noise cancellation sound waves, generating 42 dB of maximum noise cancelling depth.

The earbuds also integrate a hearing optimisation algorithm based on wearing detection, which identifies the listener’s wearing status, and provides optimal sound effect parameters, thereby ensuring a better listening experience. Consumers will be able to choose between Ultra, General, and Cosy noise cancellation modes, to adapt the effects to their environment, whether it is a busy airport, subway station, restaurant, office, or quiet home.

The HUAWEI FreeBuds 5i has been crafted into a sleek and elegant shape that is designed to fit the human ears just like hand-in-glove. Lighter pairs of earphones have been well received by consumers. A single FreeBuds 5i weighs just 4.9 gms, making it lighter than many commonly used coins. The body of the HUAWEI FreeBuds 5i is just 29mm long. Compared to the HUAWEI FreeBuds 4i, the sound openings have been shortened by 1mm, and the relative height has been reduced by one-third, making the earphones more adaptable to each listener’s ear canal, thereby allowing for a snugger fit.

The HUAWEI FreeBuds 5i can connect to two devices running different operating systems (compatible with EMUI/Android/iOS/Windows) and automatically switch between the devices without missing a beat, bringing users a smooth and smart audio connection experience. The HUAWEI FreeBuds 5i comes with IP54 water resistance, making it more than equipped to meet most listeners’ needs in daily life, from accidental splashes to rain.

HUAWEI Intros Open-Ear FreeArc Earbuds

Published

on

Huawei has launched its latest audio innovation, the HUAWEI FreeArc, further solidifying its leadership in the fast-growing open-ear wearables segment. Designed for comfort and situational awareness, the FreeArc offers a secure, pressure-free fit without blocking the ear canal—catering to users who demand high-quality audio without sacrificing awareness of their surroundings.

Open-ear earbuds, which sit outside the ear rather than inside it, have surged in popularity due to their comfort and safety benefits, particularly for fitness enthusiasts, commuters, and professionals. According to Canalys, global shipments of open-ear headphones reached nearly 8 million units in Q3 2024—a staggering fourfold increase from the same period last year.

Huawei has been at the forefront of this shift. The company ranked first in global wearable shipments for the first three quarters of 2024 (IDC), backed by its extensive audio R&D network—including seven research centers, over 1,000 audio specialists, and more than 250 patents. Its first open-ear model, the HUAWEI FreeClip, has already surpassed 2 million units shipped worldwide, demonstrating strong consumer demand for innovative wearable audio solutions.

Huawei’s journey in open-ear wearables began in 2019 with its collaboration with Gentle Monster on HUAWEI Eyewear, blending fashion with cutting-edge audio technology. The FreeClip, launched later, marked Huawei’s entry into the Open Wireless Stereo (OWS) category, featuring a flexible C-bridge design for a lightweight, breathable fit.

Now, the FreeArc takes this legacy further as Huawei’s first open-ear earbuds with earhooks. Built with a nickel-titanium alloy frame, the new model enhances stability and adaptability for a wider range of ear shapes while retaining the signature C-bridge comfort. Engineered for active lifestyles, the FreeArc boasts an IP57 rating for dust and water resistance, making it ideal for workouts, travel, and daily commutes. Key enhancements include:

  1. High-sensitivity drivers for crisp, balanced sound
  2. Dual-Resonator Antenna for stronger connectivity
  3. Wind-resistant microphones for clearer calls in outdoor environments

With the FreeArc, Huawei continues to refine its open-ear offerings, combining ergonomic design with practical durability.

Apple’s Beats Unveils Powerbeats Pro 2 with Heart-Rate Monitoring

Published

on

Apple Inc.’s Beats division has unveiled the long-awaited Powerbeats Pro 2, which features noise cancellation, a heart-rate monitor, and a revamped design aimed at athletes. This new model incorporates capabilities seen in Apple’s AirPods, such as transparency mode for better external noise awareness and the H2 chip for enhanced sound quality. Additionally, it offers improved spatial audio for a 3D listening experience and comes with a smaller, wireless charging case.

The heart-rate monitor is a notable first for Apple-designed earbuds, expanding the company’s health-related features, and utilizes technology found in the Apple Watch. Despite a slow holiday season for Apple’s wearables business—with sales in the division falling nearly 2% to about $11.8 billion—the introduction of these new earbuds is anticipated to drive interest and sales.

Priced at $250, the same as the previous model, the new Powerbeats Pro 2 will be available in black, orange, purple, and a color called quicksand. This price point matches the AirPods Pro 2, although the Powerbeats may be more appealing to athletes due to their secure ear hooks.

Apple Vice President Oliver Schusser, who oversees Beats as well as the company’s sports, TV+, and music initiatives, hailed the new Powerbeats as “the most impressive product in Beats’ history.” Acquired by Apple in 2014 for $3 billion, Beats remains the company’s largest acquisition to date.

The heart-rate monitor will be compatible with fitness apps like Peloton, Nike Run Club, Ladder, and Slopes, with data integration into the Apple Health app. The earbuds will also be compatible with Android devices. Apple is reportedly working on AirPods with heart-rate monitoring, though they are still many months away from release.

In terms of battery life, the Powerbeats Pro 2 holds an advantage over AirPods, with 10 hours of usage on their own and 45 hours with the charging case, compared to six hours for AirPods alone and up to 30 hours with the case. However, AirPods continue to offer unique features, such as a new hearing aid functionality.
