The 2023 ROG Strix Scar (G834) laptop boasts a refreshed design featuring a sleek black finish on the lid and keyboard. It accompanies customisable Armor Caps, which offer a pop of colour and can even be 3D printed for a personalised touch. Aura Sync, meanwhile, illuminates the metallic ROG logo and keyboard for a stunning look, while a transparent back and sides provide a cyberpunk feel.

The Strix Scar 18 also packs in the latest Intel CPU, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4000 series GPU with MUX switch, and DDR5 RAM. This makes the laptop optimised for high framerates in modern games. It also comes with a QHD 240Hz display with Adaptive Sync. The 18-inch format offers an immersive gaming experience and ample screen space for content creation.

Under the hood, the STRIX SCAR 18 is powered by a 13th Gen Intel Core i9-13980HX processor with 24 cores and 32 threads at up to 65W TDP. In terms of graphics, you get up an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 Laptop GPU with 175W max TGP, alongside NVIDIA Advanced Optimus and DLSS 3. This is paired with VRAM of up to 16GB GDDR6.

The laptop also accompanies memory of up to 64GB DDR5 4800Mhz RAM, and up to 2TB+2TB PCIE Gen4*4 storage with Raid0. As mentioned before, the laptop comes with an 18-inch QHD 240Hz ROG Nebula HDR Display that supports Dolby Vision HDR.

In terms of I/O ports, you get one Power (DC) input port, one 2.5G LAN RJ-45 jack, one HDMI port, one Type-C with Thunderbolt 4(dGPU DP1.4, external G-sync), one Type-C [dGPU DP1.4, external G-sync, PD (Input: 20V/5A, Output: 5V/3A)], and a 3.5mm audio jack on the left edge of the laptop. On the right edge, you get two Type A USB 3.2 Gen2 ports.

Since the ROG Strix SCAR 18 offers a large 18-inch screen, gamers and content creators have a clear advantage in terms of gameplay and creative workflow. The laptop’s 13th Gen Intel Core i9-13980HX processor and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 GPU offers top-notch performance for demanding games.

The dedicated MUX Switch with NVIDIA Advanced Optimus support lets you tap into the full power of the GPU. With 32GB DDR5 RAM and 2TB PCIe Gen4x4 storage, the SCAR 18 effortlessly handles gaming, streaming, and content creation.

In order to gauge real-world performance, we ran a few benchmarks on the laptop. On 3DMark 13 – Fire Strike (DX11) we clocked 37128 points. On 3DMark 13 – Port Royal (RTX) we got 13209 points. PCMark 10 returned 6948 points, while 3DMark 13 – Time Spy (DX12) came up with 20350 points. As you can see, those numbers are quite impressive.

The ROG STRIX SCAR 18 also comes with speakers that are surprisingly pleasant to hear. They add the extra that extra punch to immerse you into a satisfying gaming experience. The 2023 ROG Scar models feature a 90Wh battery, just like in previous generations. To conserve battery life, the laptop automatically switches the screen refresh rate to 60 Hz when running on battery power. We were able to clock around 7 hours of battery life on a single charge during our review period.

The 2023 ROG Scar 18 outperforms previous Scar models in terms of performance and thermal design. It provides faster and smoother performance for demanding tasks, multitasking, and gaming. It also offers longer battery life, lasting up to 7 hours on a single charge. The updated tri-fan cooling system effectively manages heat and provides high performance even on the mid-level Performance profile, with low noise levels.

The ROG Scar 18 offers a stunning 18-inch display, reliable inputs, a recognizable ROG design, and robust construction, making it a standout choice in its class. The ROG STRIX SCAR 18 G834 (2023) thus comes across as highly recommended.

Yango Launches Yasmina Max Smart Speaker

Published

on

Yango Group has announced the launch of its flagship smart speaker, Yasmina Max. Equipped with the human-like AI assistant Yasmina, this speaker delivers exceptional sound quality along with an interactive LED screen. Yasmina Max allows you to fully appreciate music, featuring a three-way sound system and five distinct drivers for bass, midrange, and treble, along with a passive radiator, all powered by 65 watts of impressive audio performance. Yasmina Max’s high-quality microphones make it easy to interact with it, even in a noisy room.

Users can transform their entire home into an interconnected audio space by placing Yasmina Max alongside other Yasmina smart speakers, such as Yasmina Mini and Yasmina Midi, in every room. With Multiroom Mode, you can enjoy seamless, synchronised music playback throughout your living spaces. To activate the multiroom mode, simply link the speakers to one account, connect them to the same Wi-Fi network, and say, “Yasmina, play music everywhere.”

Yasmina Max has an LED screen that adjusts its brightness based on the room’s lighting. When the speaker is turned off, the screen displays the time, and when music is playing, it shows a dynamic visual representation of the audio. It also uses the screen to supplement answers with animations. For example, the AI assistant can show the weather forecast or express an emotion when you ask, “Yasmina, how are you?”

Powered by a cutting-edge GPT model, YangoGPT, Yasmina is more than just a smart assistant. It engages in human-like conversations in both Khaleeji Arabic and English. The assistant simplifies daily tasks by providing help with decision-making, generating new ideas, and clarifying complex concepts. Simply ask, “Yasmina, how many grams of beans do I need for 2 cups of Arabic coffee?” or “Yasmina, how can I plan a surprise party for my best friend?”

“Apart from its superior technological characteristics, Yasmina Max offers a sophisticated design. Available in three colours — green, beige, and black — it is crafted to complement any interior, making it the perfect addition to any GCC home,” said Rami Abu Arja, Senior Innovation Marketing Manager at Yasmina, Yango Middle East. To fully enjoy everything Yasmina Max has to offer, including music streaming and recommendations, users need to activate a subscription to Yango Play.

Yango Play is an AI-powered entertainment super app that offers an extensive library of movies, series, TV channels, mini-games, music, and more. With an active subscription, Yasmina suggests songs, plays music that suits the user’s mood and recognises family members, adapting its recommendations to match each person’s preferences. Yasmina Max is now available for purchase through various outlets across the UAE, with an exclusive one-month partnership with the retail outlet Virgin Megastore. Customers can also find Yasmina Max online on Noon, and, for the first time, Amazon. The smart speaker is currently priced at AED 1199.

PS5 Anniversary Update Intros Retro Themes Celebrating Every PlayStation Generation

Published

on

Sony has delighted gamers with a nostalgic surprise to celebrate PlayStation’s 30th anniversary. In addition to retro hardware that quickly sold out, Sony has released a software update that adds classic boot screens and themes for each generation of PlayStation console. Upon launching the update, users will be prompted to select their favourite generation, with options ranging from the PS1 to the PS4.

This update changes the PS5 dashboard’s menu colours and sounds to match the chosen console’s user interface. Additionally, players can explore other themes through the new “PlayStation 30th Anniversary” item in the settings menu.

However, these themes are available only for a limited time. Sony has not specified when they will be removed, but the decision to make them temporary has raised some eyebrows. While creating a perception of scarcity or avoiding clutter in the settings menu might be strategic, it could be seen as a missed opportunity to let users permanently enjoy the nostalgic themes.

This isn’t the first time Sony has indulged in retro charm. A decade ago, during PlayStation’s 20th anniversary, a free theme transformed the PS4, PS3, and Vita to reflect the PS1’s look and startup sound. As Sony celebrates three decades of gaming excellence, fans are once again treated to a trip down memory lane.
