The Best Phones of 2023: Meet the New HUAWEI P60 Pro

Published

on

Today’s smartphone landscape is as exciting as ever. We see many innovative designs, cutting-edge features, and astronomical improvements in smartphone photography. Smartphone cameras have improved so much that industry experts predict that they will overtake DSLRs in the next few years. If you want to experience all these cool and handy features in the best way possible, you cannot just go for any flagship model.

You ought to look for the best of the best. Furthermore, flagship phones these days are about more than impressing your friends with the latest and greatest piece of tech. A great smartphone can actually help you achieve more, as our lives are so intertwined with these devices. In this article, we will explore the top three smartphones you can get today, carefully selected based on their design, cameras and everything else.

HUAWEI P60 Pro
You have never seen another phone like the HUAWEI P60 Pro. It’s the first phone in the world to have a Pearl Texture Design, and it’s absolutely stunning! The Rococo Pearl colour is inspired by the Rococo style that prevailed in France in the 18th century. Each HUAWEI P60 Pro carries a unique pattern because of the traditional artisanal methods that went into creating them. This gives every single piece of the HUAWEI P60 Pro a look that’s unique to itself. So you can have your own special Pearl Texture Design that’s one of a kind. The Rococo Pearl is not just another colourway; it’s a masterpiece that will blow your mind and make you stand out from everyone else.

For the camera module, the HUAWEI P60 Pro adopts the Eye of Light Design, placing the main camera in the centre and the telephoto and ultra-wide angle lenses arranged around it. It’s something that puts novelty back into smartphone photography. Another standout feature of the HUAWEI P60 Pro is its impressive Ultra Lighting XMAGE Camera system. The Ultra Lighting Telephoto Camera and the Ultra Lighting Main Camera are part of this brand-new imaging system.

If you love taking photos in low light, you will love these. The Ultra Lighting Telephoto Camera that uses a 48-megapixel sensor can let in more light than any other phone. This means you can zoom in on far-away objects in low light and snap well-lit pictures with vivid colours and plenty of details. The Ultra Lighting Main Camera is nothing short of extraordinary, either. Also equipped with a 48-megapixel primary sensor, it can capture incredibly detailed images in the most challenging lighting conditions. It is hands down the best phone for night photography.

The phone features an eye-catching Quad Curved Display that is protected by ultra-durable Kunlun Glass. Besides drawing you into an engaging visual experience, the quad-curved design provides a comfortable grip. Additionally, the 1-120Hz LTPO adaptive high refresh rate ensures buttery-smooth visuals while also saving battery life. Moreover, thanks to the ultra-durable Kunlun Glass, you can be confident that your phone is not just visually stunning but also built to last.

Powering the HUAWEI P60 Pro is a substantial 4815 mAh battery designed to keep you going throughout the day without having to worry about frequent charging. The smartphone supports 88W HUAWEI SuperCharge and 50W wireless fast charging. The phone also supports 7.5W reverse wireless charging, allowing you to charge your earbuds or smartwatches by placing them on the back of the phone. With the Turbo mode, you can charge the phone from 0% to 50% in just 10 minutes. And the best part is that you do get the 88W charger in the box.

Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra
The Samsung S23 Ultra sticks closely to its predecessor’s design aesthetics to the extent that it is not easy to tell the two apart without close inspection. Similar to the S22 Ultra, the curved display almost entirely takes up the front of the Galaxy S23 Ultra except for the hole punch cut out for the selfie camera and tiny bezels at the top and bottom. On the back, 5 camera lenses continue to dot the top left corner, albeit slightly bigger.

One minor change is the smaller radius of the edge curvature, which gives the phone a boxier appearance. This also provides the screen with a greater flat surface area, making it a bit more comfortable to use the built-in S Pen. The S23 Ultra comes in a range of colours, including Phantom Black, Green, and Lavender. The phone features a periscope lens capable of 10x optical zoom and up to 100x digital zoom. Additionally, there is another 3x zoom lens. However, it is the main camera that has seen the biggest upgrade, featuring a new 200-megapixel sensor.

It will provide you with a great deal of flexibility if you want to crop in on your photos after shooting. But the tradeoff is that each of those 200MP images will be around 50 MB in size. However, the phone takes advantage of the high-resolution sensor with 16:1 pixel binning for better low-light performance, producing more typical 12.5MP images. Samsung promises better “Nightography” performance with the improved sensor, which will also allow users to shoot better Night Portraits.

In short, the S23 Ultra gives users a good set of cameras for everyday photography. Additionally, it boasts an ultra-wide-angle lens for capturing expansive shots and a dedicated macro lens for close-up photography. The Galaxy S23 Ultra boasts a remarkable 6.8-inch 120Hz AMOLED display with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. The refresh rate can scale down as low as 1Hz to preserve battery life when the higher refresh rate is not needed. It also supports HDR10+. To protect the screen from scratches and accidental drops, the S23 Ultra is equipped with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus.

Under the hood, the Samsung S23 Ultra is powered by a 5000mAh battery and supports 45W fast wired charging. Moreover, it is compatible with 15W wireless charging and 4.5W reverse wireless charging with other Qi-enabled devices.

Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max
Except for the slightly larger camera module and the new pill-shaped cut-out on the front, the iPhone 14 Pro Max looks almost the same as the iPhone 13 Pro Max. However, the pill-shaped cutout that houses the front-facing camera and Face ID is a refreshing update. Along with the new design comes the Dynamic Island interface, which is basically a new way to view and interact with notifications. The phone features a stainless steel frame and a Ceramic Shield front cover. The iPhone 14 Pro Max is available in a selection of colours, including Space Black, Gold, Silver, and Deep Purple.

Apple has stepped up its camera game with the iPhone 14 Pro Max. It now has a 3x optical zoom telephoto lens that uses a 12MP sensor and sensor-shift stabilisation, which minimises camera shake for sharper images. The main camera has also seen a major upgrade this year. It now comes with a 48MP sensor instead of the 12MP sensor that has been the standard for iPhones for the past six years. That being said, the images snapped by the main camera are still 12MP by default, although it lets you take 48MP ProRAW images if you fancy more flexibility during editing. It also uses Smart HDR and Deep Fusion to optimise images for texture, detail, and noise reduction.

The iPhone 14 Pro Max features a 6.7-inch Super Retina XDR and has a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz. It supports HDR10 and Dolby Vision and the new always-on-display. The implementation of the always-on-display on the iPhone 14 Pro is a bit unique, though. And the Ceramic Shield front cover of the new iPhone offers four times better drop performance than its predecessor.

Although we don’t know the exact battery capacity or the wired charging speed of the phone, both of these have seen some notable improvements. Moreover, the phone is compatible with MagSafe wireless charging at 15W and offers reverse wireless charging with other MagSafe-compatible devices.

Conclusion
In short, while all three of these phones have their unique strengths and features, the HUAWEI P60 Pro is going to be an easy choice. It boasts a stunning Pearl Texture Design, exceptional Ultra Lighting XMAGE Camera, extremely tough and durable Kunlun Glass, and long-lasting batteries supported by fast charging. It represents the pinnacle of design and smartphone photography. And, with it, you can be confident that you’ll enjoy the best that 2023 has to offer.

Editor’s Pick: HUAWEI WATCH 5 Series is the Best Smartwatch You Can Get in 2025

Published

on

The HUAWEI WATCH Series is not updated every year. The WATCH 4 came out almost 2 years ago and the WATCH 3 is about 4 years old now. This is a rarity among smartwatch brands. But for consumers, this is a win. There is no constant pressure to upgrade every year and each new iteration of the WATCH Series comes out with more than some superficial glow-up. Naturally, when the HUAWEI WATCH 5 launched there was much excitement and pep.

Now, Huawei also has a WATCH GT Series that’s entirely separate from the HUAWEI WATCH Series. The WATCH GT 5 was debuted last year. Compared to the WATCH GT Series, though, the WATCH Series is more upscale with premium materials and even more advanced features. So, does the WATCH 5 Series justify the long wait? In more ways than one. It brings a brand-new sensor, a futuristic design, a revamped app ecosystem, and more.

X-TAP is a health revolution
The WATCH 5 Series makes big strides towards becoming a serious health management device. It draws inspiration from real medical devices and introduces a fingertip sensor called X-TAP. The HUAWEI X-TAP is a 12mm long glass sensor on the side of the watch body that redesigns smartwatch health management with the industry’s first all-in-one sensor. In cardiovascular health monitoring, the quality of physiological signals collected through fingertips is much more reliable, which can unlock more accurate, faster, and comprehensive health monitoring. The fingertips contain an abundance of blood vessels and a thinner skin surface, greatly reducing signal interference from skin pigmentation, hair, etc. You can check your SpO2 levels in under 10 seconds by placing your finger on the X-TAP sensor.

The watch also has the Health Glance feature, which is a smarter, more accurate and more attentive way to asses your health by analysing 11 bodily indicators and long-term health trends. Despite the comprehensive nature, it only takes Health Glance 60 seconds to generate a report.

For most users, raw health metrics don’t mean much. Much more important is the correlation between different monitoring results and, above all, what they mean. That’s why the WATCH 5 introduces Health Insights. It analyses the correlation between health indicators in sleep and heart health scenarios through visual cues and textual analyses, offering personalised health advice and smarter health management.

Futuristic design, tough build
The front of the watch has a prominent spherical design that incorporates a spherical sapphire glass screen, second only to diamond in hardness. The use of premium materials goes beyond sapphire. The HUAWEI WATCH 5 42mm, available in Beige and Sand Gold, features a 904L stainless steel casing—the same alloy used in luxury watches known for its exceptional corrosion and wear resistance. Meanwhile, the HUAWEI WATCH 5 46mm, available in Silver and Purple, uses Aerospace-grade Titanium material, which is 45% lighter than 904L stainless steel, 1.8 times stronger, and 1.5 times harder.

A finely crafted classic trapezoidal crown tops of the design. The new X-TAP button that sits on the side next to the crow blends into the overall visual language without drawing too much attention. Everything from the spherical watch face to the new retrofuturistic hues and high-end materials lends the watch a unique appeal that exudes precision and craftsmanship.

Apps and ecosystem
The HUAWEI WATCH 5 Series supports e-sim cellular calling, standalone navigation, onboard music streaming, and access to Huawei’s ecosystem of fitness and general apps. It can handle key tasks without needing your phone constantly in your pocket.

The watch also introduces new gesture controls designed for one-handed use. Users will now be able to tap and Double Slide with their fingers to instantly interact with their smartwatch. You can easily answer or hang up calls, switch music, and take photos by double tapping or swiping your fingers with one hand, greatly improving the efficiency of smartwatch usage.

Battery life that keeps giving
The battery life of Huawei watches has always been astonishing. Despite all the added features and even an extra sensor, Huawei has managed to keep it impressively long. In Standard Mode, HUAWEI WATCH 5 46mm can last for up to 4.5 under normal usage and 42mm edition can last up to 3 days on Standard Mode. The battery life can be extended with the Battery Saver Mode, allowing the watch to last up to 7 days on the 42mm edition and 11 days on the 46mm edition.

The HUAWEI WATCH 5 brings a whole host of new features to smartwatches while the rest of the industry has been largely in a trickle. And just like that, Huawei once again proves it is far ahead in health and well-being management. What’s more, the HUAWEI WATCH 5 works equally well with iOS and Android devices, making it a universal choice for everyone looking for a smartwatch in 2025.

5 Mindblowing Tech Behind Huawei’s Best Affordable Noise Cancelling Wireless Earbuds: HUAWEI FreeBuds 6i

Published

on

Huawei has always been ambitious with its audio products, but the FreeBuds 6i might be their most audacious move yet. They’ve taken their flagship-level noise cancellation tech, Intelligent Dynamic ANC 3.0, first featured on the FreeBuds Pro 3 and put it in a pair of affordable earbuds. The Intelligent Dynamic ANC 3.0 constantly analyses your surroundings and adjusts the noise cancellation accordingly to give you the most immersive audio experience wherever you are. Trained on 34 different scenarios, it can handle the noise in a wide range of everyday situations. The FreeBuds 6i monitor noise every 2.6 μs and adjusts the parameters within about a second to seamlessly optimise noise cancellation for your surroundings.

5 Hardware Upgrades Behind the Noise Cancellation
The FreeBuds 6i achieves a breakthrough in noise cancellation with 5 hardware upgrades. These upgrades tackle both passive noise cancellation (PNC) and active noise cancellation (ANC) capabilities. PNC upgrades include the Noise Filtering Chamber, along with brand-new ear tips. ANC upgrades include the 3-Mic System, 2.4 times higher computing power, and a new 11 mm Quad-magnet Dynamic Driver.

  1. Noise Filtering Chamber: The FreeBuds 6i outsmart noise with a cleverly designed Noise Filtering Chamber, designed based on the Helmholtz resonance principle. This chamber deals with the most stubborn frequencies of background chatter between 2 and 3 kHz which are the most challenging to cancel out using conventional methods. The Noise Filtering Chamber effectively quietens ambient chatter, typically measuring at around 55 dB.

  2. Brand-new Ear Tips: The second upgrade that seals out the noise is actually a set of enhanced ear tips that offer a more comfortable fit and better sound isolation. They are made of skin-friendly liquid silicone, which offers a silky-smooth touch, and come in three sizes. Thicker ear tips, more secure fit and superior airtightness mean less noise leakage and better passive noise cancellation, especially in the medium to high-frequency range.

  3. 3-Mic System Inside and Outside the Ear: An upgraded 3-mic system listens to the sounds around you and inside your ear canal to detect residual noise within the ear canal. This triple-mic setup, boasting a 50% better signal-to-noise ratio than before, helps the earbuds to cancel out low- to mid-frequency noises.
  4. 2.4-times Higher Computing Power: The FreeBuds 6i packs some serious active noise-canceling power. They have upgraded the computing power to be 240% higher than its predecessor thanks to Intelligent Dynamic ANC 3.0. This allows the earbuds to analyse and cancel out the incoming noise in real-time. This enables the earbuds to handle noises across a wide frequency range.

  5. New 11 mm Quad-Magnet Dynamic Driver: The brand new flagship-level 11mm Quad-magnet Dynamic Driver in the FreeBuds 6i is 50% more sensitive than its predecessor. It generates reverse sound waves to counteract the medium to low-frequency residual noise that leaks into the ear canal.

The Intelligent Dynamic ANC 3.0 along with these five hardware upgrades work together to give you the best listening experience. The result is a 100% improvement in noise cancellation, including an average noise attenuation of 27 dB across all measured frequencies and across a myriad of common scenarios.

Audio that Adapts to You
The FreeBuds 6i deliver a surprisingly immersive audio experience. The 11mm drivers pack a punchy, bass-emphasised sound that’s right up your alley if you are a fan of modern genres. And the Hi-Res Audio Wireless certification means that you get high-fidelity sound with rich details. Huawei’s triple adaptive EQ is also a standout. It automatically tailors the sound to your ear canal and listening volume in real-time. If you prefer a more hands-on approach, the 10-band equalizer lets you fine-tune the sound to your liking. Overall, the FreeBuds 6i offers a fully personalised and engaging listening experience that punches above its weight.

The earbuds offer 35 hours of music playback with ANC off with a fully charged case and 8 hours of continuous playback on a single charge. With ANC enabled, you can still enjoy up to 20 hours of music with the case and 5 hours on a single charge. Plus, a quick 10-minute charge provides 4 hours of listening time.

The HUAWEI FreeBuds 6i are a remarkable achievement. They bring top-tier noise cancellation to a price point that’s accessible to a wider audience. They’re a great option for anyone who wants to drown out the world without spending a fortune. If noise cancellation is your top priority, the FreeBuds 6i should be at the top of your list.
