on

Motorola has expanded the EDGE franchise with the motorola edge 40, a device that boasts advanced features like IP 68 dust and water protection, wireless charging, a curved 144Hz display, and a powerful 50MP camera in a sleek, stylish design. Commenting on the new launch, Sharay Shams, Motorola General Manager, Middle East, said, “The democratisation of technology is a fundamental element of Motorola’s philosophy. Consumers are looking for devices with premium features, a beautiful design, and the latest technology specifications at an accessible price point. Throughout our EDGE line-up, we strive to offer our consumers the latest and greatest at a wide range of price points and value propositions catering to diverse consumer needs.”

Mixing style and performance, the motorola edge 40 is one of the slimmest in its class (7.58mm), featuring a borderless curved glass display and curved rear inlay joined together by a precision-cut, sandblasted aluminium frame. Beautifully sleek and seamless to hold, this combination offers both exceptional design and comfort, fitting perfectly in the contours of users’ hands. Plus, the soft, vegan leather backing makes it easy to grip.

The new motorola edge 40 boasts an impressive IP68 specification, setting a high standard for durability and water resistance. With an IP68 rating, the device is designed to withstand being submerged in up to 1.5 meters of water for 30 minutes without any damage. This means that users can confidently take their motorola edge 40 on adventures near water bodies, such as the beach or pool, without worrying about accidental splashes or spills. The IP68 spec ensures that the device remains protected against dust and dirt as well, making it ideal for outdoor enthusiasts and individuals who lead an active lifestyle.

When it’s time to recharge, consumers can rely on 68W TurboPower charging to get power for the day in just 10 minutes, and enjoy a long-lasting 4400mAh battery that can connect at 5G speeds and keep up with busy routines. For added convenience, they can free themselves from cords with 15W wireless charging.

The motorola edge 40 is also equipped with the MediaTek Dimensity 8020 chipset, offering seamless connections to blazing-fast 5G and Wi-Fi networks and powering everything from high-resolution videos to smoother gaming. All with faster CPU and GPU speeds and greater power efficiency compared to the previous generation. There’s also 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM for smooth performance and quick recall, and up to 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage for ample room for photos, movies, songs, apps, and games. Consumers can also unleash the full power of their smartphone with Ready For wireless connection and PC compatibility.

The motorola edge 40 runs on Android 13 and includes new security and software features for enhanced protection and safety. With a 50MP hi-res camera system that includes the widest aperture available in a smartphone (f/1.4), the motorola edge 40 captures beautiful, detailed photos.

The incredibly wide aperture means users can enjoy:

  • Better pictures in low-light environments, so time of day is not an issue
  • A naturally soft focus background behind the subject for a professional touch
  • Faster capture speeds effortlessly freeze the action, making candid photos as accurate as possible

Plus, the Ambient Light Sensor immediately sets exposure so photographers don’t have to worry about missing a moment when opening their camera. All-pixel focus provides more accurate performance in any light, and OIS for crystal-clear shots. A 13MP ultrawide camera with Macro Vision completes the rear camera system, letting users fit more in the frame or get closer to their subject, and a 32MP hi-res selfie camera guarantees excellent group or solo shots in all lighting conditions. The motorola edge 40 also comes with an array of new video and camera enhancements like Horizon Lock Stabilisation, Video Portrait, and Vlog Mode to keep photographers up-to-date and on-trend.

When streaming content and playing games, a big, beautiful screen is paramount, and the motorola edge 40 delivers a 6.55” pOLED display that features borderless curved edges for an all-encompassing view. The immersive display is complete with Full HD+ resolution, which makes for a sharper picture with less pixelation. It also comes with HDR10+ certification and DCI-P3 colour range for a wider range of colours that appear more vivid and true to life. When gaming, scrolling, or multitasking, consumers can also take advantage of a fast and fluid 144Hz refresh rate to smoothly navigate their device.

The cinematic viewing experience is accompanied by Dolby Atmos® sound on stereo speakers, which adds depth and details to consumers’ favourite entertainment with enhanced bass. Plus, Motorola Spatial Sound makes the sound coming from users’ headphones or speakers feel more immersive as it fills the space around them when they’re listening to music or playing games. The motorola edge 40 display and audio offerings deliver an entertainment experience that is captivating and true to life.

motorola edge 40 will also be available for B2B customers across the globe, with additional Motorola for Business services and solutions, like CO2 offset, premier support, Moto Device Management, and more. With motorola edge 40 we will also provide Motorola’s newest security feature, real-time Kernel Protection, which keeps the operating system safe from threats and exploits. This functionality is integrated into the device, which means there is no need for any setup or configuration, making it easy to use.

motorola edge 40 will be available from today in three colours: Vegan leather Nebula Green, Lunar Blue, and Eclipse Black with an MSRP of AED 1599. What’s more, you get a free gift of Moto buds 105, Belkin Wireless 10W charger, Entertainer 6 months subscription, and GCC warranty worth AED 549.

PS5 Anniversary Update Intros Retro Themes Celebrating Every PlayStation Generation

Published

on

Sony has delighted gamers with a nostalgic surprise to celebrate PlayStation’s 30th anniversary. In addition to retro hardware that quickly sold out, Sony has released a software update that adds classic boot screens and themes for each generation of PlayStation console. Upon launching the update, users will be prompted to select their favourite generation, with options ranging from the PS1 to the PS4.

This update changes the PS5 dashboard’s menu colours and sounds to match the chosen console’s user interface. Additionally, players can explore other themes through the new “PlayStation 30th Anniversary” item in the settings menu.

However, these themes are available only for a limited time. Sony has not specified when they will be removed, but the decision to make them temporary has raised some eyebrows. While creating a perception of scarcity or avoiding clutter in the settings menu might be strategic, it could be seen as a missed opportunity to let users permanently enjoy the nostalgic themes.

This isn’t the first time Sony has indulged in retro charm. A decade ago, during PlayStation’s 20th anniversary, a free theme transformed the PS4, PS3, and Vita to reflect the PS1’s look and startup sound. As Sony celebrates three decades of gaming excellence, fans are once again treated to a trip down memory lane.

Apple to Retain Titanium Frame for iPhone 17 Pro Series, Says Leaker

Published

on

According to a recent leak from Weibo user “Instant Digital,” next year’s iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max will retain their titanium chassis, contrary to earlier reports suggesting that Apple might shift to aluminium for its 2025 lineup. The Information’s Wayne Ma had previously indicated that Apple’s flagship ‌iPhone 17‌ Pro models could be the first high-end iPhones to feature an aluminium frame since the lineup’s split into Pro and non-Pro models.

Historically, high-end ‌iPhone‌ models used stainless steel frames until the iPhone 15 Pro introduced a titanium chassis, which was touted as a significant upgrade. However, Ma’s report suggested a return to aluminium for the entire ‌iPhone 17‌ lineup. Instant Digital, however, disagrees, stating on Weibo (via machine translation), “Of course, the iPhone 17 Pro will still use titanium. Why would anyone believe it would switch to aluminium? Think about it — it’s just not possible. Looking back at recent iPhone models, Apple has consistently emphasized the premium frame materials of the Pro series as one of its key selling points, from ‘surgical-grade stainless steel’ to ‘titanium.’ If they switched to aluminium, how could they even market it?”

The Weibo leaker’s claims, however, lack verification from supply chain information, and Ma’s report details a significant design change involving an aluminium upper back with a rectangular camera bump made of aluminium instead of traditional 3D glass, while the bottom half would remain glass to support wireless charging. Apple has a history of introducing and then discontinuing breakthrough features in its iPhones. For example, the 3D Touch feature introduced with the iPhone 6s in 2015 was phased out with the iPhone 11 in 2019.

Despite Instant Digital’s mixed accuracy record with Apple rumours, the leaker has made some accurate predictions, such as the Yellow iPhone 14 launch in 2023, the frosted back glass on the iPhone 15 and ‌iPhone 15‌ Plus, the minor refresh for the Apple Watch Series 9, and other notable features. The iPhone 17 series is expected to debut in the fall of 2025, featuring new display sizes, a rumoured ultra-thin model, and ProMotion displays across the lineup. As always, the anticipation for Apple’s latest innovations continues to build.

OnePlus 13 Set for Global Launch This January, Taking on Samsung Galaxy S25

Published

on

As the new year approaches, tech enthusiasts have much to look forward to, particularly with the upcoming global launch of the OnePlus 13. Having already made its debut in China, OnePlus has officially confirmed that the OnePlus 13 will be available worldwide in January 2025.

The flagship smartphone will come in three colour options: Midnight Ocean, Black Eclipse, and Arctic Dawn. Notably, this marks the end of the green colourway, which has been a hallmark of OnePlus flagships in recent years. While it remains uncertain if blue will become the new signature colour, many fans are hopeful.

OnePlus highlights that the Midnight Ocean variant will be the first phone to feature micro-fibre vegan leather, designed to provide a luxurious feel while being resistant to scratches and scuffs. Additionally, the OnePlus 13 will boast IP68 and IP69 ratings for water and dust resistance on the international market, addressing past criticisms of lacking official IP certifications despite capable designs.

Rumours also hint at the launch of the OnePlus 13R and OnePlus Watch 3 in early 2025. Moreover, leaks suggest that the base model of the OnePlus 13, featuring 12GB RAM and 256GB storage, will only be available in the Black Eclipse colourway. Those interested in the Midnight Ocean or Arctic Dawn options might need to opt for the higher-end variant with 16GB RAM and 512GB storage.

Meanwhile, Samsung has yet to confirm the launch date for its highly anticipated Galaxy S25 series. However, based on previous trends, it is expected to be released in the first quarter of 2025.
