Review of the HONOR 90 Lite in the UAE

Published

on

HONOR is back with its new 90 series and the first phone to be reviewed by us is the new HONOR 90 Lite. The HONOR 90 Lite has a relatively generic front design with flat sides, a large screen with minimal bezels, and curved corners. However, its standout feature lies in its shimmery back panel and cropped-circle camera bumps.

Available in Black, Silver, and Cyan, the Cyan variant we tested has a unique diffuse shine, giving its plastic back a look that falls somewhere between glass and metal. While the initial shimmer may seem a bit flashy, it grows on you over time.

The phone’s matte frame is adorned with a USB-C port at the bottom, a power button/fingerprint scanner combination, and a volume rocker on the right side. On the left side, you’ll find the SIM card tray. The version we tested supports two SIM cards but does not have an SD card slot.

The HONOR 90 Lite is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 6020 chipset, which consists of two ARM Cortex-A76 CPU cores clocked at 2.2 GHz and six Cortex-A55 CPU cores running at 2 GHz. While slightly less powerful, this chipset delivers efficient performance. You also get 8GB of RAM and 256GB of onboard storage.

In addition, the HONOR 90 Lite features a large 6.7-inch IPS display with a resolution of 2388-by-1080 pixels and a smooth 90 Hz refresh rate. Despite its large screen, the phone maintains a slim profile, measuring just 7.48mm in thickness. It houses a 4500mAh battery that supports 22.5W fast charging through its USB Type-C port.

Inside the box, you will find the HONOR 90 Lite, along with the transparent phone case, a SIM ejector tool, a HONOR SuperCharge charging adaptor, and the USB-C cable. On the front, you’ll find a 16 MP front-facing camera nestled within a centred punch hole on the display. The rear camera setup consists of a 100 MP primary camera, a 5 MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 2 MP macro lens, offering versatile photography capabilities.

The HONOR 90 Lite immediately catches attention with its slim screen bezels on three sides. However, there is a noticeable chin below the screen, which sets it apart from pricier competitors. Despite this, the generous 6.7-inch screen takes centre stage and offers an immersive viewing experience.

The HONOR 90 Lite utilises LTPS LCD display technology, delivering Wide Full HD resolution and an aspect ratio of 19.9:9. This combination provides sharp visuals for its price range and produces attractive images in most scenarios. The 90 Lite offers good viewing angles, a smooth refresh rate of 90Hz, and ample screen controls, ticking most of the necessary boxes. In terms of brightness, the HONOR 90 Lite does a good job, even on a sunny day. Gaming and watching movies are reproduced beautifully on the large nearly bezel-less display.

The HONOR 90 Lite impresses with its 100-megapixel main camera sensor, delivering good quality images even at 2x zoom and up to a maximum zoom level of 10x. The phone is capable of capturing good photos overall. The 5-megapixel ultra-wide camera and 2-megapixel macro camera also do a pretty good job. Video recording can be achieved a 1080p resolution at 30 frames per second.

If you prefer using the phone as a straightforward point-and-shoot camera primarily in the standard 1x (100-megapixel) mode, you’ll be pleased with the results achieved in both daylight and low-light conditions. The AI mode effectively adjusts settings for different environments, leading to satisfying outcomes. Additionally, the portrait mode produces impressive results.

The HONOR 90 Lite operates on Android 13, featuring HONOR’s MagicOS 7.1 interface. HONOR devices also have full access to Google’s services, ensuring excellent app support from the start. Some flagship elements from the Magic 5 Pro have trickled down to the 90 Lite, such as spacious folders and YoYo, a widget that intelligently places frequently used apps on the home screen.

The HONOR 90 Lite delivers smooth performance, thanks to the MediaTek Dimensity 6020 chipset. It is complemented by 256GB of storage and 8GB of RAM, ensuring seamless multitasking and app usage. We were able to play some graphics-intensive games such as Genshin Impact, without any major issues. On the Geekbench 6 benchmark, the HONOR 90 Lite scored 723 points on the single-core test and 1912 on the multi-core test, which is very competitive for its price range and the specifications it offers.

The HONOR 90 Lite impresses with its 4,500mAh battery, providing a comfortable day of usage. Whether you enjoy streaming, casual gaming, or taking photos, this phone offers remarkable value for its price. The standout feature is its generous 256GB storage, but the camera, performance, user experience, and battery life all come together splendidly. HONOR covers the essentials and includes best-in-class storage, creating an enjoyable and affordable alternative to many entry-level phones out there in the market.

Price: AED 899

  • Final Rating
3.5

Summary

The HONOR 90 Lite immediately catches attention with its slim screen bezels on three sides. However, there is a noticeable chin below the screen, which sets it apart from pricier competitors. Despite this, the generous 6.7-inch screen takes centre stage and offers an immersive viewing experience.

Apple’s Beats Unveils Powerbeats Pro 2 with Heart-Rate Monitoring

Published

on

Apple Inc.’s Beats division has unveiled the long-awaited Powerbeats Pro 2, which features noise cancellation, a heart-rate monitor, and a revamped design aimed at athletes. This new model incorporates capabilities seen in Apple’s AirPods, such as transparency mode for better external noise awareness and the H2 chip for enhanced sound quality. Additionally, it offers improved spatial audio for a 3D listening experience and comes with a smaller, wireless charging case.

The heart-rate monitor is a notable first for Apple-designed earbuds, expanding the company’s health-related features, and utilizes technology found in the Apple Watch. Despite a slow holiday season for Apple’s wearables business—with sales in the division falling nearly 2% to about $11.8 billion—the introduction of these new earbuds is anticipated to drive interest and sales.

Priced at $250, the same as the previous model, the new Powerbeats Pro 2 will be available in black, orange, purple, and a color called quicksand. This price point matches the AirPods Pro 2, although the Powerbeats may be more appealing to athletes due to their secure ear hooks.

Apple Vice President Oliver Schusser, who oversees Beats as well as the company’s sports, TV+, and music initiatives, hailed the new Powerbeats as “the most impressive product in Beats’ history.” Acquired by Apple in 2014 for $3 billion, Beats remains the company’s largest acquisition to date.

The heart-rate monitor will be compatible with fitness apps like Peloton, Nike Run Club, Ladder, and Slopes, with data integration into the Apple Health app. The earbuds will also be compatible with Android devices. Apple is reportedly working on AirPods with heart-rate monitoring, though they are still many months away from release.

In terms of battery life, the Powerbeats Pro 2 holds an advantage over AirPods, with 10 hours of usage on their own and 45 hours with the charging case, compared to six hours for AirPods alone and up to 30 hours with the case. However, AirPods continue to offer unique features, such as a new hearing aid functionality.
