Review of the ASUS VivoWatch 5 AERO in the UAE

Published

on

During IFA 2022, ASUS took the wraps off the VivoWatch 5 AERO, a fitness tracker equipped with a fascinating sensor beneath its display. The VivoWatch 5 AERO boasts the impressive ability to perform ECGs simply by touching a fingertip to the sensor. Additionally, the sensor supposedly has the capability to measure blood oxygen and heart rate levels as well. We got a review unit from ASUS for a test drive, we came away impressed by its capabilities.

ASUS has integrated identical sensors on the rear of the fitness tracker, intended for continuous 24/7 monitoring. Furthermore, the VivoWatch 5 AERO features GPS, 5 ATM water resistance, and can last up to 3 days on a single charge from its 140 mAh battery under regular usage. Notably, the device comes with a 0.96-inch passive matrix OLED display and supports 15 mm wide silicone watch straps.

The VivoWatch 5 AERO is being touted to be the world’s first smart wristband that can detect Pulse Transit Time and blood pressure, delivering real-time measurements by simply placing a finger on the sensor. It is compact and lightweight, weighing less than 30 grams, and it comes packed with built-in medical-grade ECG and PPG sensors, which ensure continuous vital monitoring throughout the day.

It also offers 24/7 complete health-data tracking, since it measures your Pulse Transit Time index, heart rate, blood oxygen (SpO2), and de-stress level, allowing you to understand your health status easily. Furthermore, it also tracks sleep quality, offering insights into sleep duration, stages, snoring patterns, and body movement for a comprehensive view of when you rest.

The ASUS VivoWatch 5 AERO also supports nine popular sports modes such as Jogging, Treadmill, Swimming, Walking, Cycling, Yoga, Stretching, Core, and Dancing. The Vivowatch 5 AERO also tracks daily step count, and calories burned, providing activity maps and stats to keep you healthy and fit. It is also equipped with a built-in GPS chipset, which precisely pinpoints your location for accurate sports tracking, even without a mobile phone.

The ASUS VivoWatch 5 AERO utilises the time difference between signals captured by its ECG and PPG sensors to compute flow speeds in arterial blood vessels and assess pressure conditions generated by the vessel walls during the heart’s regular contraction and relaxation. Real-time PTT measurements can be easily obtained by placing an index finger on the watch face for 20–25 seconds. Moreover, the sensors on the back of the VivoWatch 5 AERO watch face automatically measure Pulse Transit Time (PTT) every hour.

To obtain detailed ECG recordings on the ASUS VivoWatch 5 AERO, simply place your forefinger on the face sensors for 30 seconds. The ECG app will capture the data, and you can use the ASUS HealthConnect app to share the results with your healthcare provider.

The HealthConnect app allows for the export of ECG data as a PDF file, thus allowing you to easily share it with medical professionals during checkups. ASUS says that the VivoWatch 5 AERO is equipped to provide precise Lead 1 ECGs, with medical device certification approved by the Taiwan Food & Drug Administration (TFDA). Through the ASUS HealthConnect app, the data collected by ASUS VivoWatch 5 AERO is thoroughly analyzed, offering valuable insights about the wearer’s health.

Users have the option to use the app to share the collected data with friends, family, and healthcare professionals. Furthermore, ASUS HealthAI, integrated within ASUS HealthConnect, offers personalised tips on healthy habits and effective health management, enhancing the overall wellness experience for the wearer.

Setting up the Vivowatch 5 AERO is a walk in the park. Follow the onscreen instructions on the watch’s face and you are good to go. The overall performance is very good – the UI is easy to understand and is quite light without any unwanted animations in place. For a price of $139.99, the ASUS VivoWatch 5 AERO is a fantastic smart band that can record all your health vitals in one place. The health data provided by the core pulse wave index measurement function is not only cost-effective but also allows users to monitor their blood pressure status conveniently and without any discomfort.

Apple Detects Spyware Targeting iPhones in Multiple Countries

Published

on

Apple has issued a second spyware attack warning to iPhone users in 98 countries, raising concerns about the growing threat to mobile security. This follows a similar alert in April targeting users in 92 countries.

While specific details about the latest attacks remain under wraps, the alert serves as a stark reminder of the evolving threat landscape. India is one confirmed country where users received the notification.

Spyware, a particularly invasive type of malware, can grant attackers complete access to an iPhone, including encrypted messages, audio, and video. The notorious Pegasus spyware from NSO Group is a well-known example.

“Apple detected that you are being targeted by a mercenary spyware attack that is trying to remotely compromise the iPhone associated with your Apple ID -xxx-,” Apple wrote in its new spyware alert.

Adding to the concern, researchers recently revealed the return of LightSpy, a “particularly dangerous” campaign capable of pinpointing a target’s location with “near-perfect accuracy.”

The worrying aspect of these attacks is their ability to exploit “zero-click” vulnerabilities, meaning infection can occur without any user interaction, such as opening a malicious link or attachment.

This highlights the importance of remaining vigilant and following Apple’s security recommendations, which may include updating your device to the latest iOS version.
