HONOR Launches the HONOR V Purse in China

HONOR today launched the HONOR V Purse in Shanghai, China. Designed to be exceptionally thin and fashionable, the out-warding foldable smartphone is just 8.6 mm when folded and 4.3mm when unfolded, setting a new record for the thinnest foldable smartphone. This is the first time that HONOR has turned a concept into a commercial product after announcing the HONOR V Purse concept phone at IFA this year. Representing the intersection of fashion and technology, the HONOR V Purse beautifully brings to life the “phone-to-purse” concept, and in doing so, defines a new category of technology, offering a new stylish option for fashion-forward consumers.
“Today’s consumers are focused on leading fashionable, digital lifestyles,” said George Zhao, CEO of HONOR. “To cater to these needs, HONOR is defining what’s next for smartphones, debuting the HONOR V Purse which seamlessly combines cutting-edge innovation with a chic design. Testament to our commitment to constantly exploring bold new form factors to keep up with the latest lifestyle trends, the HONOR V Purse will inspire a new generation of runway-worthy smart products that are unlike anything on the market today.”
In its pursuit of the slimmest and lightest foldable form factor, HONOR sets a new record for foldable smartphone thinness with the HONOR V Purse measuring just 8.6mm while folded and 4.3mm when unfurled. Weighing just 214g, the new purse phone feels as light as a bar smartphone in hand, offering users the versatility of a large folding screen without the heft of conventional foldables.
The latest breakthrough in foldable thinness is realized with the brand-new HONOR hinge. 1.2mm-thick super springs and miniature gears that have a diameter of only 1.73mm. The new hinge also adopts a new folding mechanism and features HONOR’s proprietary steel to offer incredible robustness while remaining superbly lightweight.
With the new HONOR V Purse, your smartphone seamlessly transforms into the ultimate phy-gital fashion statement, thanks to a series of customizable always-on display (AOD) designs that mimic a handbag design of your choosing, while a choice of interchangeable straps and chains that clip onto the HONOR V Purse’s hinge allow you to effortlessly wear your smartphone over your shoulder or carry it in your hand, as you would an ordinary purse. Unfolding the smartphone is an experience in and of itself, as the clasp unlocks the screen with a satisfying click, just like the buckle on your favourite clutch.
Featuring a 50MP IMX800 sensor for the main camera, the HONOR V Purse is a photo studio you can wear. The large screen can double as a fill light to help you take gorgeous portrait shots, or be folded and used as a digital viewfinder that you can see while you snap selfies with the rear cameras. A two-in-one 12MP ultra-wide and macro camera adds versatility to the powerful main camera, enabling you to capture breathtaking scenic shots and wide group shots that can easily accommodate a large party, as well as extreme close-ups that reveal details that often go unnoticed by the naked eye.
Enhanced by the HONOR Image Engine, the HONOR V Purse supports 0.6x, 0.8x, 1x and 1.3x digital zoom recreating different portrait styles. A dedicated Portrait Mode with the option to toggle between 1x and 2x zoom is also available for dedicated portrait photographers. The AI Skin Color Algorithm on HONOR V Purse intelligently enhances brightness on skin and blurs background light spots to generate bokeh effects, helping you capture studio-grade portraits anytime, anywhere.
The HONOR V Purse features a state-of-the-art 7.71-inch 2K flexible OLED display that supports a peak brightness of 1,600 nits. Combined with an anti-reflective coating that lets more light pass through to decrease reflection, the bright screen remains vibrant and legible under sunlight. Additionally, algorithmic optimizations enable the HONOR V Purse’s display to be as dim as two nits to ensure late-night reads are as relaxing for your eyes as they are for your mind.
The HONOR V Purse supports the full range of HONOR eye protection features that consumers have come to love, including 2,160Hz PWM Dimming which virtually removes harmful screen flicker, as well as Dynamic Dimming and Circadian Night Display that minimises the eye fatigue caused by prolonged smartphone usage and the impact of viewing displays late on melatonin secretion for improved sleep quality, respectively.
The HONOR V Purse also features Super Dynamic Vivid Display Technology that enhances the brightness of all objects being displayed. Through graphics processing, images, videos and non-animated UI elements are enhanced individually. The technology can be applied system-wide or to select app windows to provide greater visual fidelity, displaying content with better dynamic contrast and higher brightness.
To satisfy the higher screen durability requirements for outward folding phones, HONOR designed a multi-tier screen protection solution for the HONOR V Purse. The device is thoroughly reinforced to withstand everyday wear and tear, with the screen and clasp both tested to survive 200,000 unfolds and unclasps, as well as passing a range of shock and abrasion resistance assessments. Recognized for its reliability, the HONOR V Purse is the first outward folding phone to be accredited with both the 5-star drop resistance for the overall unit and 5-star impact resistance for screen certification from SGS, a world-leading testing, inspection and certification company.
Embedded in the HONOR V Purse, the two Silicon-carbon batteries combine to provide a total of 4,500mAh in battery capacity to keep pace with today’s ever more connected lifestyles. Integrating HONOR’s pioneering low-voltage charge-gathering technology, the Silicon-carbon cells have redesigned circuitry and a new discharge system to provide 360% more charge compared to traditional graphite-based battery systems and enable the HONOR V Purse to reliably function at low voltages. The new Silicon-carbon anodes also allow the batteries to be as slim as a name card, and with HONOR’s self-developed battery optimization solution, the HONOR V Purse can offer up to 8.7 hours of video playback or 10.6 hours of continuous article reading or 16 hours online music play with the 7.71-inch 2K display unfolded.
Ranging from new AOD designs, HONOR Notes, YOYO Suggestions, MagicRing, to new security features and beyond, the all-new MagicOS 7.2 brings a wealth of smart and multi-device connectivity features that are designed to improve the everyday user experience. Parallel Space, a safe space designed to protect your data security, takes full advantage of the foldable form factor to help you easily and securely separate sensitive work-related apps and data from your personal files and photos. You also have the option to display both your main profile and Parallel Space at once in two separate windows and interact with the two profiles simultaneously for greater convenience.
The new “it” bag of the future, the HONOR V Purse is the world’s slimmest and lightest purse phone, offering endless possibilities for style and self-expression while delivering top-notch visuals, battery life and smart experiences. Available in Gold, Blue and Black, the HONOR V Purse will be available for preorders starting from Sep 19 in China, with a starting price of 5999RMB for the 16GB +256GB model.

ROG Strix Scar 16 G635LX (2025) Review: A Compact Powerhouse with a Stunning Mini LED Display

The ROG Strix Scar 16 G635LX is the smaller sibling of the Scar 18 G835LX, packing similar high-end specs, design elements, and features into a more compact and lightweight chassis. While it runs slightly hotter due to its size, it doesn’t compromise on performance.
Design and Build Quality
The Scar 16 G635LX is essentially a scaled-down version of the Scar 18 G835LX, as mentioned earlier, sharing the same design language, build quality, and ergonomics. Compared to previous generations, the 2025 model features a cleaner aesthetic, updated I/O, latest-gen hardware, and improved cooling. It also retains its standout mini LED matte display and punchy speakers, a combination still uncommon in gaming laptops.
The chassis is primarily plastic, except for the metal lid, and features an all-black finish with RGB lighting elements, including a lightbar around the base. The Anime Matrix LED array on the lid makes a return. Ergonomically, the hinges hold the screen firmly. The laptop features a comprehensive array of connectivity options, including a 3.5mm combo audio jack for audio input and output, a high-bandwidth HDMI 2.1 FRL port for display connectivity, three USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports offering data transfer speeds up to 10Gbps, a 2.5G LAN port for high-speed wired networking, and two cutting-edge Thunderbolt 5 ports supporting DisplayPort, power delivery, and G-SYNC, with impressive data transfer speeds of up to 120Gbps.

Specifications
The ROG Strix Scar 16 G635LX includes an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX processor with 8 Performance and 16 Efficiency cores, boosting up to 5.4 GHz. It’s paired with an Nvidia RTX 5090 Laptop GPU with 24GB of DDDR7 VRAM and a power limit of up to 240W. Memory comes in the form of 32GB DDR5-5600 SO-DIMM RAM, expandable via two DIMM slots, while storage includes 1TB + 1TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 Performance SSD (RAID 0).
Display and Other Specs
The device boasts a stunning 16-inch ROG Nebula HDR Display with a sharp 2.5K resolution (2560 x 1600, WQXGA) and a productivity-friendly 16:10 aspect ratio. This Mini LED panel features an anti-glare coating and delivers vibrant, color-accurate visuals with 100% DCI-P3 coverage. Gamers will appreciate the ultra-smooth 240Hz refresh rate and rapid 3ms response time, further enhanced by G-Sync technology. The display is also Pantone Validated, ensuring color accuracy for creative professionals, and supports Dolby Vision HDR for richer, more immersive visuals. The inclusion of a MUX Switch and NVIDIA Advanced Optimus allows users to seamlessly switch between integrated and dedicated graphics for optimal performance and battery life.
Cooling is handled by a tri-fan vapor chamber system with liquid metal on both the CPU and GPU. Power comes from a 90Wh battery, and the laptop includes both a 380W power adapter and a 100W USB-C charger. At 2.81 kg, it’s not lightweight but remains more portable than larger 18-inch alternatives.
Keyboard and Touchpad
The keyboard retains a full-size layout without a NumPad but includes dedicated media keys and full-sized arrow keys. Typing feel is excellent, with slightly stiffer actuation than previous models, and the keys are quieter than mechanical alternatives. Per-key RGB lighting is bright and customizable. The main downside is that the black keycaps and frame smudge easily, requiring frequent cleaning.
The large glass touchpad includes a virtual NumPad function activated via the top-right corner. Physical clicks are stiff, but palm rejection works well. An 1080P FHD IR Camera supports Windows Hello facial recognition, though image quality is strictly average.
Battery
The entire Strix Scar series comes equipped with a substantial 90Wh battery, delivering impressive endurance for everyday tasks like video streaming and web browsing. When you need a quick boost, the device’s power adapter with ASUS Slim Power Jack technology can recharge the battery to 50% in just 30 minutes.
For added convenience, all models support USB Power Delivery up to 100W via the USB Type-C port. This means users can stay powered up even when traveling light—just plug in a compatible USB-C charger for on-the-go top-ups without carrying the full power brick. Whether you’re gaming at home or working remotely, the Strix Scar lineup keeps you running longer with fast charging flexibility and all-day battery life.
Performance
The 24-core (8P + 16E) Ultra 9 275HX boosts up to 5.4 GHz and sustains 150-175W in Turbo mode. It delivers roughly 15-20% better multi-threaded performance than the previous-gen i9-14900HX. The Nvidia RTX 5090 Laptop GPU, armed with a substantial 24GB of cutting-edge GDDR7 VRAM and a significant power limit of up to 240W within the Scar 16 G635LX, promises to deliver top-tier mobile gaming and content creation performance.
This configuration allows the laptop to handle demanding AAA titles at high resolutions and settings, potentially even pushing the boundaries of ray tracing and DLSS capabilities for a visually stunning and smooth gaming experience on its high-refresh-rate display. The ample VRAM will also be a boon for professionals working with large datasets in applications like video editing, 3D rendering, and AI development, ensuring smooth and efficient workflows.
The Scar 16 G635LX is designed with robust cooling to allow the RTX 5090 to operate closer to its maximum potential, unlocking exceptional performance that rivals high-end desktop GPUs from the previous generation. Users can expect blazing-fast frame rates, reduced loading times, and the ability to tackle graphically intensive tasks with remarkable speed and efficiency.. A vapour chamber and liquid metal cooling keep temperatures in check, with the CPU averaging ~90°C and the GPU ~80°C under load. Fan noise ranges from ~48 dBA in Turbo mode to under 35 dBA in Silent mode.
Verdict
The ROG Strix Scar 16 G635LX (2025) is a powerful, well-cooled gaming laptop with a standout mini LED display. While its pricing may deter some, it’s a great choice for users who prioritise a matte screen over OLED alternatives, along with powerhouse performance. If you can stomach the cost, it’s one of the best 16-inch performance laptops of the year.

Big Screens at Home: Epson Data Shows UAE’s Projector Craze

A study commissioned by Epson has uncovered increasing demand for home cinema experiences, with tremendous advancements in technology and a shift in lifestyle preferences driving consumers towards choosing large-screen projectors over traditional television sets for such experiences. Whether for creating a home theatre, gaming experience or enjoying content with a large-screen display, the survey results show that projectors have become a preferred option in the world of home entertainment. Their growing popularity reflects consumers’ desire for larger, more immersive, and flexible viewing experiences.
Epson conducted the survey across five markets – Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Morocco, Türkiye, and South Africa – to identify current trends in home cinema experiences. The research revealed that 50.8% of respondents across the five markets favour large-screen projectors over traditional TV sets, with the highest number of respondents preferring projectors seen in the UAE (60%) and Saudi Arabia (62%). Notably, only 11.6% of those surveyed reported not using or having tried a projector.
In the UAE, visual quality emerged as the most crucial element of an ideal movie-watching experience, with 40% of respondents citing it as top priority, followed by sound quality at 33% . Overall ambience and comfort ranked third and fourth, respectively, indicating that consumers prioritise technological advantages above other factors.
Neil Colquhoun, President for Epson META-CWA, said, “We are pleased to see the popularity of large-screen projectors across our markets, as revealed by our survey results, which demonstrate how advancements in technology are driving demand. As technology continues to evolve, becoming even more impressive and accessible, we anticipate demand for ever bigger and better home entertainment experiences.”
Epson conducted the survey in collaboration with Pollfish, sampling 100 respondents per market. Epson sees significant potential to increase market share as consumers discover the phenomenal viewing experiences enabled by technological advancements. Draws for consumers include bigger screen sizes, flexibility and space-saving, portability, customisability and a cinematic feel, enabling a true movie theatre atmosphere at home.
