Corsair has launched the new MP700 Pro PCIe Gen5 X4 NVMe M.2 SSD with a Cooler that stands out as one of the pioneering models, showcasing cutting-edge performance with a remarkable 12400 MB/s of sequential read throughput and 1.6 million random write IOPS. This performance sets a promising standard for the forthcoming generation of drives.
Functioning as a flagship-class PCIe Gen5 X4 NVMe M.2 SSD, the MP700 Pro offers impressive performance across various metrics, elevating storage capabilities to enthusiast-class levels on desktops. With high sequential bandwidth and consistently reliable performance, this drive is supported by Corsair, a trusted name in the SSD industry.
Inside the box, you get the Corsair MP700 Pro along with a cooler. The variant we received offers 2TB of onboard storage. The SSD supports the latest PCIe 5.0 architecture seen on Intel Z790 and AMD X670 platforms. The company also uses high-density 3D TLC NAND on this SSD which offers a balance between performance and endurance.
The MP700 Pro also serves as an excellent entry into the PCIe 5.0 arena, equipped with DirectStorage-optimised firmware. This in turn allows the MP700 Pro to communicate directly with your graphics card when playing games for faster load times. In terms of cooling, you get to choose from three options: one without a heatsink, one with an air-cooled heatsink, and one with a liquid-cooled heatsink. The one reviewed here is the air-cooled heatsink variant.
Supported by a five-year warranty covering up to 1,400 terabytes of written data, the Corsair MP700 Pro provides a robust assurance of reliability. Corsair provides its SSD Toolbox software for download on its website. This software not only displays the drive information and SMART health attributes but also allows you to perform various functions such as TRIM, cloning, overprovisioning, and secure drive erasure.
For reviewing this SSD, we used a test bed configured with the ASUS TUF Gaming Z790-Pro WiFi Motherboard, paired with Intel Core i9-14900K and 48GB of DDR5 RAM running at 5,600MHz. To benchmark, we used the CrystalDiskMark, and as you can see below, these are some solid results:
In terms of performance, thermals are also a thing to consider. During peak performance, rising temperatures can be observed in PCIe 5.0 SSDs. Hence, efficient cooling is crucial to prevent thermal throttling, which can lead to decreased read and write speeds. The optional air cooler bundled with the Corsair MP700 Pro is certainly a value-add. This cooler uses a conventional SSD heatsink with a fan that directs airflow along its length thus proving to be a good alternative cooling solution.
The Corsair MP700 Pro 2TB stands out as an excellent SSD. With proper cooling, it delivers optimal performance among PCIe 5.0 SSDs. Featuring three models, it caters to the diverse needs of users. The KIOXIA EXCERIA PLUS microSDXC Memory Card in the 128GB capacity is designed to offer a compelling blend of performance, storage capacity, and affordability for a diverse range of users. Building on KIOXIA’s established reputation in the storage industry, the EXCERIA PLUS line is positioned as an enhancement over their standard EXCERIA series, delivering improved speeds suitable for more demanding applications.
Specifications
The KIOXIA EXCERIA PLUS microSDXC 128GB card adheres to the microSDXC standard and utilises the UHS-I interface. The card is rated as Speed Class 10, UHS Speed Class U3, Video Speed Class V30, and Application Performance Class A1. Its maximum read speed is advertised as up to 100 MB/s, while the maximum write speed is around 65 MB/s for the 128GB variant. In terms of durability, the card is designed to be waterproof (IPX7), shockproof, X-ray proof, temperature resistant (from -25°C to +85°C), ESD immune, and includes an internal fuse for overheating/ignition prevention. The card also comes with a 5-year limited warranty.
Performance
The KIOXIA EXCERIA PLUS 128GB card provides a good balance of speed and capacity for various applications. For 4K video recording, the V30 rating ensures reliable performance at typical bitrates, allowing for extended recording sessions without write speed limitations. It also performs well for Full HD video recording and high-resolution burst photography, offering sufficient storage for large files and sustained write speeds for continuous shooting.
In gaming, particularly with the Nintendo Switch, the UHS-I interface provides adequate speed for game loading and playing, and the 128GB capacity offers substantial storage for digital game libraries. When used for Android applications, the A1 rating offers acceptable loading times and responsiveness for many apps, although it won’t match the speed of internal storage.
It’s important to remember that actual performance can vary depending on the host device, benchmarking software, and other factors. We used tools such as CrystalDiskMark and Blackmagic Disk Speed Test to test the card’s performance. In our tests, we achieved sequential read speeds pf around 90MB/s and sequential write speeds of around 60MB/s. In a simulated real-world file transfer test, writing a 10GB video file took approximately 3 minutes, while reading the same file took around 1 minute and 40 seconds.
Verdict

It effectively balances capacity and performance, with the U3/V30 ratings ensuring dependable 4K video recording and the A1 rating offering satisfactory performance for Android applications. While the write speeds aren’t the absolute top-tier, they are more than adequate for the majority of intended uses.
