The Soundcore Liberty 4 NC is the latest true wireless earbuds from the company, featuring adaptive active noise cancellation 2.0 (ANC), support for LDAC, Hi-Res Wireless Audio, multipoint connectivity, and wireless charging.

Design and Comfort
The Soundcore Liberty 4 NC accompanies a sleek and minimalist design, with a glossy plastic finish and short stems. The earbuds are available in five colours: Navy Blue, Velvet Black, Pastel Pink, Light Blue, and Clear White. The one reviewed here is the Velvet Black variant.

Inside the box, along with the charging case and the earbuds, you get three additional sizes of silicone ear tips (XS, S, M, and L), with the M size already installed onto the earbuds. These ear tips ensure a snug and comfortable fit. The ear tips also have a vent to reduce the pressure in the ear canal and improve the sound quality. The earbuds are lightweight (5.7 grams each) and ergonomic, and during our tests, they didn’t fall out easily even during vigorous activities.

The earbuds have touch-sensitive areas on the stems, which allow you to control the playback, volume, calls, and noise cancellation modes with different gestures. You can also customise the gestures in the Soundcore app, which is compatible with Android and iOS devices. The app also lets you check the battery level, update the firmware, access the EQ settings, perform a fit test, and more.

The earbuds have an IPX4 rating, which means they are resistant to splashes and sweat, but not submersion. The earbuds come with a wireless charging case, which is also made of glossy plastic and has a USB-C port on the bottom. The case is compact and easy to carry around, and it supports Qi wireless charging and reverse wireless charging on compatible smartphones as well.

Sound Quality and Noise Cancellation
The Soundcore Liberty 4 NC have an 11mm custom driver in each earbud, which delivers a balanced and detailed sound with a wide soundstage. The earbuds also support Hi-Res wireless audio and Bluetooth 5.3, which ensures a stable and high-quality wireless connection.

One notable feature is the customisable EQ settings through the Soundcore app. This allows you to customise the sound signature to your preference, thus providing a personalised listening experience. Whether you’re a bass enthusiast or prefer a more neutral sound, the Liberty 4 NC accommodates a wide range of preferences.

The earbuds also have a feature called Dynamic Equalizer, which adjusts the frequency response according to your personal preferences and hearing characteristics. You can choose from four preset modes (Default, Bass Boost, Treble Boost, and Vocal Boost) or create your custom mode in the app.

The inclusion of an active noise cancellation feature sets the Liberty 4 NC apart from its predecessors and elevates the overall listening experience. The ANC technology effectively reduces ambient noise, immersing users in their music or podcasts without distractions from the outside world.

During testing, the ANC proved effective in dampening ambient sounds such as traffic. While it may not eliminate all external noises, it significantly reduces their impact, allowing you to enjoy your favourite music, movie, or podcast in peace. The transparency mode is also commendable, letting in external sounds when necessary for awareness without removing the earbuds.

Battery Life and Charging
The Soundcore Liberty 4 NC offer a very good battery life. It can last up to 10 hours on a single charge without noise cancellation. The charging case can provide a total of 50 hours of battery life without noise cancellation. The earbuds also support fast charging, which can give you 4 hours of playback with a 10-minute charge.

The charging case can be charged via USB-C or Qi wireless charging. The earbuds also support reverse wireless charging, which means you can use a compatible smartphone to charge the case. In this review, we used the reverse wireless charging feature of the HUAWEI P60 Pro, and it worked flawlessly.

Verdict
For a price of AED 247, the Soundcore by Anker Liberty 4 NC true wireless earbuds offer great value for money. These are a solid pair of true wireless earbuds that offer a lot of features and great sound quality.

The earbuds have a sleek and comfortable design, an adaptive active noise cancellation system, a Hi-Res Wireless Audio support, multipoint connectivity, and a wireless charging case. The earbuds are suitable for different types of users and scenarios, such as music lovers, gamers, travellers, and professionals.

Apple’s Beats Unveils Powerbeats Pro 2 with Heart-Rate Monitoring

Published

on

Apple Inc.’s Beats division has unveiled the long-awaited Powerbeats Pro 2, which features noise cancellation, a heart-rate monitor, and a revamped design aimed at athletes. This new model incorporates capabilities seen in Apple’s AirPods, such as transparency mode for better external noise awareness and the H2 chip for enhanced sound quality. Additionally, it offers improved spatial audio for a 3D listening experience and comes with a smaller, wireless charging case.

The heart-rate monitor is a notable first for Apple-designed earbuds, expanding the company’s health-related features, and utilizes technology found in the Apple Watch. Despite a slow holiday season for Apple’s wearables business—with sales in the division falling nearly 2% to about $11.8 billion—the introduction of these new earbuds is anticipated to drive interest and sales.

Priced at $250, the same as the previous model, the new Powerbeats Pro 2 will be available in black, orange, purple, and a color called quicksand. This price point matches the AirPods Pro 2, although the Powerbeats may be more appealing to athletes due to their secure ear hooks.

Apple Vice President Oliver Schusser, who oversees Beats as well as the company’s sports, TV+, and music initiatives, hailed the new Powerbeats as “the most impressive product in Beats’ history.” Acquired by Apple in 2014 for $3 billion, Beats remains the company’s largest acquisition to date.

The heart-rate monitor will be compatible with fitness apps like Peloton, Nike Run Club, Ladder, and Slopes, with data integration into the Apple Health app. The earbuds will also be compatible with Android devices. Apple is reportedly working on AirPods with heart-rate monitoring, though they are still many months away from release.

In terms of battery life, the Powerbeats Pro 2 holds an advantage over AirPods, with 10 hours of usage on their own and 45 hours with the charging case, compared to six hours for AirPods alone and up to 30 hours with the case. However, AirPods continue to offer unique features, such as a new hearing aid functionality.
