Samsung Launches the Galaxy S24 Series of Smartphones with Galaxy AI

Published

on

Today, Samsung Electronics introduced the Galaxy S24 Ultra, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24, marking a new chapter in mobile experiences with the integration of Galaxy AI. The Galaxy S series is pioneering a revolution that will transform the way mobile devices serve users. The Galaxy S24 series leverages AI to enhance virtually every aspect of the user experience, from facilitating seamless communication with smart text and call translations, to unlocking creative potential with the Galaxy’s ProVisual Engine, to redefining search capabilities that will alter the way Galaxy users interact with their surroundings.

“The Galaxy S24 Series transforms our connection with the world and ignites the next decade of mobile innovation,” said TM Roh, President and Head of Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung Electronics. “Galaxy AI is built on our innovation heritage and deep understanding of how people use their phones. We’re excited to see how our users around the world empower their everyday lives with Galaxy AI to open up new possibilities.”

Galaxy AI brings significant intelligence to the table, designed to enhance all aspects of life, particularly the most essential function of a phone: communication. When it comes to overcoming language barriers, the Galaxy S24 simplifies the process. Whether you’re chatting with an overseas student or colleague, or making a reservation while holidaying in a foreign country, it’s all achievable with Live Translate. This feature offers two-way, real-time voice and text translations during phone calls using the native app, eliminating the need for third-party apps. Plus, on-device AI ensures all conversations remain entirely private.

The Interpreter feature allows for live conversations to be instantly translated and displayed in a split-screen view. This enables individuals facing each other to read a text transcription of the other person’s speech. It even operates without cellular data or Wi-Fi. For messages and other apps, Chat Assist refines conversational tones to ensure communication is conveyed as intended, whether it’s a courteous message to a coworker or a brief, snappy phrase for a social media caption.

The AI integrated into the Samsung Keyboard can also translate messages in real-time across 13 languages. When driving, Android Auto will automatically condense incoming messages and suggest appropriate responses and actions, such as sharing your ETA. This allows you to stay connected while keeping your attention on the road.

The organisation receives a significant enhancement with Note Assist in Samsung Notes, which includes features such as AI-generated summaries, template creation for streamlining notes with pre-set formats, and cover creation for easy note identification through a brief preview. For voice recordings, even with multiple speakers, Transcript Assist utilises AI and Speech-to-Text technology to transcribe, summarise, and even translate recordings.

However, communication isn’t the only area where the Galaxy S24 Series propels the fundamental advantages of a phone into the future. Online search, which has revolutionised nearly every facet of life, sees a landmark moment with the Galaxy S24. It’s the first phone to introduce an intuitive, gesture-driven Circle to Search feature with Google. In a bid to provide Galaxy users with an extraordinary new tool, Galaxy collaborated with Google, the global leader in search, to facilitate new forms of discovery through a simple gesture.

By long-pressing the home button, users can circle, highlight, scribble on, or tap anything on the Galaxy S24’s screen to receive helpful, high-quality search results. A beautiful landmark in the background of a friend’s social media post or an intriguing fun fact on YouTube Shorts can quickly trigger an accurate search to learn more, all without having to exit the current app.

The Galaxy S24 Series’ ProVisual Engine is an all-encompassing suite of AI-enhanced tools that revolutionise image-capturing capabilities and optimise creative freedom at every stage, from framing a shot to sharing it on social media. The days of shaky, pixelated images taken from a distance are over. The Galaxy S24 Ultra’s Quad Tele System, equipped with a new 5x optical zoom lens, collaborates with the 50MP sensor to deliver optical-grade performance at zoom levels ranging from 2x, 3x, 5x to 10x magnification, courtesy of the Adaptive Pixel Sensor. Images also display crystal-clear results at 100x with the enhanced digital zoom.

With improved Nightography capabilities, photos and videos captured on the Galaxy S24 Space Zoom shine in any condition, even when zoomed in. Gather more light in low-light conditions with the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s larger pixel size, now 1.4 μm, which is 60% larger compared to the previous model. Blur is minimised on the Galaxy S24 Ultra with broader optical image stabiliser (OIS) angles and advanced hand-shake compensation. When filming videos, both the front and rear cameras are fitted with a Dedicated ISP Block for noise reduction, and the Galaxy S24 analyses gyro information to differentiate between the filmmaker’s movement and the subject’s. This enables more effective noise elimination and clear videos in the dark, even from a distance.

Once stunning shots are captured, innovative Galaxy AI editing tools facilitate straightforward edits like erase, re-compose, and remaster. For simpler and more efficient optimisations, Edit Suggestion utilises Galaxy AI to propose ideally suited adjustments for each photo. To provide users with even greater creative control and freedom, Generative Edit can populate parts of an image background with generative AI. If a picture is skewed, AI will fill in the borders.

If an object needs to be slightly relocated to achieve the perfect position, AI allows users to adjust the subject’s position and generates a seamlessly blended background in its original location. Whenever the Galaxy S24 employs generative AI to enhance an image, a watermark will appear on the image and in the metadata. And if a high-action video needs to be slowed down, the new Instant Slow-mo can generate additional frames based on movements to smoothly decelerate action-packed moments for a more detailed view.

To ensure each image is stunning at every stage, Super HDR provides lifelike previews before the shutter is even pressed. While capturing memories is a crucial feature of a phone, sharing those memories with the world is equally important. Now, third-party social apps can fully utilise the AI-powered camera system of the Galaxy. Premium camera features of the Galaxy S series now integrate directly with mobile apps in HDR, elevating social sharing. When it’s time to find an image in the Gallery or Instagram feed and reels, photos and videos are also displayed in Super HDR, offering a more lifelike range of brightness, colour, and contrast by analysing highlighted sections of the images.

As AI becomes increasingly integral to everyday life, performance power must rise to meet the demands. Whether it’s gaming, heavy-duty video recording and editing, or switching between five apps to plan a trip, the Galaxy S24 delivers an exceptional experience thanks to improvements in its chipset, display, and more. Every Galaxy S24 Ultra is equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Mobile Platform for Galaxy. This chipset optimised specifically for Galaxy users, offers significant NPU enhancement for incredibly efficient AI processing. In all three Galaxy S24 models, 1-120 Hz adaptive refresh rates also enhance performance efficiency.

Galaxy gaming is more potent due to hardware and software upgrades. The Galaxy S24 Ultra boasts an optimal thermal control system with vapour chambers that are 1.9 times larger, improving the device’s surface temperature while also maximising sustained performance power. Ray tracing enables lifelike visuals with superior shadow and reflection effects. Through collaboration with leading gaming partners, the Galaxy S24 allows users to enjoy more optimised popular global mobile games.

Visuals are more vibrant and engaging on the brightest Galaxy display ever. The Galaxy S24 achieves a peak brightness of 2,600 nits and offers improved outdoor visibility with Vision Booster. On the display, the Corning Gorilla Armor on the Galaxy S24 Ultra is optically enhanced and exhibits superior durability against damage caused by everyday scratches. It dramatically reduces reflection by up to 75% in a wide range of lighting conditions, ensuring a smooth, comfortable viewing experience.

Across the Galaxy S24 series, design enhancements with slimmer and even bezels make it easier to immerse in any viewing experience and enable larger screen sizes on the Galaxy S24+’s 6.7-inch and Galaxy S24’s 6.2-inch displays within nearly the same size specifications. The Galaxy S24 Ultra features a 6.8-inch flatter display, optimised not just for viewing but also for productivity. Plus, the Galaxy S24+ now supports the same level of QHD+ found on the Galaxy S24 Ultra.

The Galaxy S24, fortified by Samsung Knox, a defence-grade, multi-layered security platform, ensures the protection of critical information and guards against vulnerabilities with comprehensive secure hardware, real-time threat detection, and collaborative protection. Samsung’s enduring commitment to granting users choice and control over their devices persists in the AI era. Users of the Galaxy S24 have complete control over the extent to which their data enhances AI experiences, through Advanced Intelligence settings that can disable the online processing of data for AI features.

The Knox Matrix envisions a future that is secure, connected, and devoid of passwords, further advanced with passkeys. Passkeys provide convenient and secure access to a user’s registered websites and apps across all their trusted devices via digital credentials, thereby safeguarding against phishing attacks. Enhanced Data Protection offers end-to-end encryption when users backup, sync, or restore their data with Samsung Cloud, enabling Galaxy S24 users to connect to other devices while maintaining synchronisation and security. This ensures that the data can only be encrypted or decrypted on a user’s devices, meaning the data is visible only to the user, even if a server is compromised or account details are stolen. If access to a trusted device is lost, a recovery code can help prevent data loss. The Galaxy S24 is also safeguarded with Samsung’s extensive array of innovative security and privacy features, including Knox Vault, Security & Privacy Dashboard, Auto Blocker, Secure Wi-Fi, Private Share, Maintenance Mode, and more.

The creation of a new category of mobile experiences also necessitates rethinking how Galaxy technology is designed and packaged to do more with less for individuals and the planet. The Galaxy S24 continues to expand the range of recycled materials in Galaxy devices by incorporating recycled plastics, glass, and aluminium into internal and external components. These efforts are taken a step further with the Galaxy S24 featuring components made with recycled cobalt and rare earth elements for the first time. In the Galaxy S24 Ultra, a minimum of 50% recycled cobalt was used in the battery, and 100% recycled rare earth elements were integrated into the speakers.

The Galaxy S24 is the first in the Galaxy S Series to be designed with recycled steel and Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU). The Galaxy S24 Ultra incorporates a minimum of 40% recycled steel in the speakers and includes at least 10% pre-consumer recycled TPU in the side and volume keys. Furthermore, every Galaxy S24 is packaged in a box made from 100% recycled paper material.

This latest flagship continues Samsung’s commitment to prolonging the product lifecycle, offering seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates to ensure users can enjoy the optimised performance of their Galaxy devices for an extended period. Lastly, the Galaxy S24 is UL ECOLOGO certified, and its carbon footprint has been measured and verified by The Carbon Trust.

The Galaxy S24 represents progress against Samsung MX’s environmental roadmap. Samsung remains committed to achieving its set of goals by the end of 2025. By the end of 2022, Samsung had achieved the first of these goals by incorporating recycled materials into all mobile products, ranging from Galaxy smartphones and tablets to PCs and wearables. Today, the company is setting a new goal for recycled material. By 2030, Samsung will incorporate at least one recycled material into every module of every mobile product.

The Galaxy S24 Ultra is the first-ever Galaxy phone to feature a titanium frame, enhancing the device’s durability and longevity. The significantly thinner body of the Galaxy S24 Ultra facilitates a better on-the-go experience with a more comfortable grip. On the Galaxy S24+ and Galaxy S24, a streamlined One-mass design provides a more aesthetic standard with a seamless connection between the device’s rear cover and side frame. The Galaxy S24 series is available in Earth mineral-inspired colour tones. The Galaxy S24 Ultra comes in Titanium Gray, Titanium Black, Titanium Violet, and Titanium Yellow. The Galaxy S24+ and Galaxy S24 are available in Onyx Black, Marble Gray, Cobalt Violet, and Amber Yellow. All three models will also come in additional colours available exclusively online.
