Dyson Launches Supersonic r Hair Dryer

Published

on

A year ago, Dyson unveiled a revolutionary new professional hair dryer enabled by new power-dense technologies. It has a new technology streamlined heater, the Dyson Hyperdymium motor, and intelligent Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) sensors in attachments which communicate with the hair dryer, automatically adjusting the motor and heater to deliver optimal airflow and temperature. The Dyson Supersonic r hair dryer is Dyson’s most powerful, yet lightest and most precise hair dryer to date. 30% smaller, 20% lighter, and more manoeuvrable than the original Supersonic hair dryer, it delivers fast drying, smoother and shinier6 results.

Developed and tested with professionals, the machine has only been available for stylists to purchase so far, being unveiled at Fashion Week in the A/W24 season. It has since become an essential in the kits of talent such as Sam McKnight, Eugene Souleiman and Lacy Redway, who choose the Dyson Supersonic r hair dryer for its enhanced manoeuvrability, comfort and precision. Following participation in design reviews with Dyson engineers over five years, Matthew Collins, Global Styling Ambassador at Dyson, says “this is the best blowdryer I have ever used”. Elsewhere, Stylist Anthony Turner, backstage at the Issey Miyake A/W24 show, describes the machine as “a magic wand”, and stylist Gary Gill says, “at first glance it is visually astonishing, even strange. But I like it. I felt like it could never work, but it’s the complete opposite.”

Today, Dyson announces that the Dyson Supersonic r hair dryer will be available for general sale, making salon-finishes open to all. The announcement comes following demand from users hungry to achieve high-quality results at home between appointments. The machine will be available in two new colours – Ceramic Pink, inspired by the orient of a pearl, and Jasper Plum, inspired by the rare purple jasper gemstone (exclusive to dyson.ae or dyson.sa).

Founder and Chief Engineer, Sir James Dyson, along with Beauty President, Kathleen Pierce, Dyson’s Global Styling Ambassadors, and the engineers who developed the machine, are in Paris for the announcement during A/W25 fashion week. It’s a city that the company and its Founder are fond of, with the first Dyson Demo Store opening in 2000 on Rue de la Boetie in Paris. It offered a fundamentally different way to show technology.

This week, Dyson’s flagship Opera store on Rue Auber will embrace the innovative spirit and excitement of Fashion Week. An intimate launch event gives beauty enthusiasts the opportunity to try the Dyson Supersonic r hair dryer in the Dyson Beauty Lab, before it is available to purchase across Europe from April, whilst it will be available for sale in the US and Mexico from 6 March, with other locations to follow in the coming weeks.

Dyson has a long history of innovative collaborations in fashion. As far back as 2007, Dyson collaborated with designer Issey Miyake on a runway collection, “The Wind”. Upon entering the beauty space in 2016, they worked with stylists and models in the backstage environment to improve styling experiences and hair health. In 2024, Dyson introduced their newest solution backstage at iconic Fashion Week shows such as Chloe, Stella McCartney, and Issey Miyake. Reflecting on the long-standing friendships behind Dyson’s partnership with these shows, especially Issey Miyake, James Dyson shared in an exclusive backstage interview, “It’s an emotional time because he’s no longer with us. But it’s lovely to be back and to see the Dysons they are using at a fashion show.”

For the A/W25 season, Dyson will be partnering the Chloe show on 6 March, styling models backstage for the runway with lead session stylist, Gary Gill. Gill used Dyson’s professional range in ‘24 at the first show imagined by new Creative Director, Chemena Kamali. It was a collection that paid homage to the late 1970s, a decade when the natural beauty of women was celebrated but also their courage and strength. Gill created a look that was as effortless as it was natural, altering between loose, subtly curled hair and relaxed low buns. The A/W25 looks will be released on 6 March after the show, and the stage is set for another inspiring moment in fashion and beauty.

Alongside the launch of the Dyson Supersonic r hair dryer, Dyson is introducing a Styling Menu at select Dyson Demo flagship stores worldwide7 where beauty shoppers can explore this year’s trending styles on different hair types and learn how to achieve their favourite look with the guidance of a Dyson styling expert. The Styling Menu kicks off with five signature looks “Styled with r”, curated from trend predictions by Dyson’s more than 50 Global Styling Ambassadors that have used the tool to create some iconic runway and red carpet looks in the past year.

The five trending styles for the launch are: textured wave bob; S-shaped curls; sleek straight; halo curls; and soft twist outs. About the launch of the Styling Menu, Dyson’s Head of Global Education, Amy Johnson says, “It will be updated every season with looks created using different machines, ensuring fresh and iconic styles are at the forefront of our education programme for customers in store and online. Appointments with stylists are bookable at the Dyson website, taking skills from the backstage to the front row, to you, at home.”

Dyson’s Styling Menu features trend predictions for all hair types. Johnson continues, “Dyson engineers are passionate about researching and designing products with cutting edge technology for diverse hair types. Our stylists in Dyson stores, as well as our Professional Styling Ambassadors around the world, are excited to help you learn the skills to look and feel at the top of your game.”

OLED Rival? Sony Unveils Promising New RGB LED Technology

Published

on

Sony has announced a promising new display technology dubbed “General RGB LED Backlight Technology.” This innovation replaces the standard blue LEDs in mini-LED TVs with RGB LEDs, allowing for more accurate color projection without relying on traditional color filters or quantum dots. The result is significantly richer colors and brighter images compared to conventional mini-LEDs, potentially rivaling OLED’s picture quality.

Currently, the top TV technologies are mini-LED LCD and OLED. Mini-LED excels in bright HDR highlights, while OLED offers superior contrast with individually controlled pixels but typically lower brightness. Sony’s RGB LED aims to bridge this gap.

While lacking the pixel-level control of OLED, RGB LEDs demonstrate remarkable color accuracy and exceptional brightness. Demonstrations have shown brightness levels exceeding 4,000 nits, surpassing even high-end models and approaching professional reference monitor standards. Furthermore, this technology significantly improves viewing angles, a long-standing weakness of mini-LED TVs, eliminating color saturation loss or green tints at wider angles.

Interestingly, this technology isn’t exclusive to Sony, with manufacturers like Hisense also displaying impressive TVs utilising RGB LEDs. The technology is also expected to scale well, potentially leading to more affordable large-screen TVs. While it might not immediately dethrone OLED, RGB LEDs offer a compelling combination of vibrant colors, stellar brightness, and wide viewing angles, occasionally even outperforming OLED in color richness. With further development, especially in improving response times for gaming, RGB LED technology could become the next dominant display technology, similar to how OLED once overtook plasma.

iPhone 17 Camera Design Revealed by Leaked Metal Molds

Published

on

Leaked metal molds for the iPhone 17 lineup have surfaced, seemingly confirming earlier rumors of a significant camera redesign for most models. Veteran leaker Sonny Dickson shared photos of these molds, which showcase a supersized “camera bar” style on most models, separating the flash and sensor from the main camera lenses.

These molds, often used by case manufacturers for early design insights, align with previous CAD designs leaked by Dickson. While the accuracy of such molds (based on rumours rather than official Apple information) can vary, Dickson has a strong track record, having accurately revealed the iPhone 16 screen sizes months before their release.

The standard iPhone 17 is expected to maintain a traditional dual-camera setup with the flash on the left. However, the other three models are depicted with the new camera bar design. Notably, a thinner model, potentially named the iPhone 17e or Air, features a single, more pronounced “2-in-1” camera similar to the iPhone 16e, likely due to a rumored substantial thinning of the device’s body. The iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max molds show the familiar three camera lenses, but with the flash and sensors positioned separately on the right side within the new camera bar.

While there’s no official confirmation of the molds’ authenticity, Dickson’s past accuracy lends credibility to this latest leak, offering a potential early glimpse into the iPhone 17’s redesigned camera system.
